# NWS Official Daily High & Low Temperatures (Climate Reports) (`survivalstudent/nws-daily-climate`) Actor

Official National Weather Service daily climate report (CLI) values: max and min temperature with times, normals, records, precipitation and snow, for any of 600+ US stations. The numbers weather markets and insurers settle on. Parsed to clean JSON.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## NWS Official Daily High & Low Temperatures

Get the **official National Weather Service daily high and low** for any US climate station, parsed from the NWS Daily Climate Report (CLI) into clean JSON. These are the same official values that weather contracts, prediction markets, energy traders and insurers settle on, not a model or a nearby sensor estimate.

### What you get per station per day

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| location / stationName | NYC / CENTRAL PARK NY |
| reportDate | 2026-09-29 |
| maxTempF, maxTempTimeLocal | 70, 12:27 PM |
| minTempF, minTempTimeLocal | 59, 3:17 AM |
| maxTempNormalF / minTempNormalF | 71 / 58 |
| maxTempRecordF, maxTempRecordYear | 88, 1945 |
| newRecordHigh / newRecordLow | false |
| precipIn, snowIn | 0.00 ("T" means trace) |
| isPreliminary, validAsOfLocal | true, 4:00 PM (same-day reports only) |
| issuedAt, productUrl | Link to the original NWS product |

### Final vs preliminary

NWS issues a **preliminary** report in the late afternoon (valid as of about 4-5 PM local) and the **final** report for the day early the next morning. By default the Actor returns final reports only. Turn on *Include same-day preliminary reports* to get both. If NWS issues a correction, the latest version wins.

### Locations

Use NWS CLI location codes, usually the airport code without the leading K. The default list covers 20 major cities: `NYC`, `DCA`, `MDW`, `MIA`, `AUS`, `LAX`, `DEN`, `PHL`, `ATL`, `BOS`, `SEA`, `DFW`, `HOU`, `PHX`, `LAS`, `SFO`, `CLT`, `RDU`, `CHS`, `MSP`. Turn on *Use all 53 major US cities* to also get `IAD`, `BWI`, `ORD`, `LGA`, `IAH`, `DTW`, `SAT`, `OKC`, `MSY`, `GSP`, `CAE`, `ORF`, `RIC`, `SAV`, `JAX`, `TPA`, `MCO`, `BNA`, `MEM`, `SDF`, `CVG`, `CLE`, `PIT`, `IND`, `STL`, `MCI`, `SLC`, `PDX`, `SAN`, `BUF`, `ABQ`, `BHM`, `TUS`. Any of the 600+ other NWS climate stations works too.

Handy codes: `NYC` is Central Park, `DCA` is Washington Reagan National, `IAD` is Dulles, `MDW` is Chicago Midway, `ORD` is O'Hare, `CLT` is Charlotte, `RDU` is Raleigh-Durham, `CHS` is Charleston SC.

### Daily feed

Schedule it every morning with *Only new since last run* turned on to get each new final report exactly once.

### Pricing

**$2 per 1,000 daily summaries** ($0.002 each). No platform usage fees.

### Source and legal

Data comes from the public api.weather.gov API of the US National Weather Service, which is public domain. This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by NOAA or the NWS. Official values can occasionally be corrected by NWS after publication; always verify against the linked source product for anything with money on the line.

# Actor input Schema

## `locations` (type: `array`):

NWS climate report location codes, usually the airport code without the K. Defaults cover 20 major cities. Examples: NYC (Central Park), DCA (Washington Reagan), IAD, BWI, MDW (Chicago Midway), ORD, CLT, RDU, CHS, ATL, MIA, AUS and 600+ more.

## `allMajorCities` (type: `boolean`):

Ignore the list above and pull every major-city station built in (DC area, Southeast, Midwest, West and more).

## `daysBack` (type: `integer`):

Return reports for the last N days. NWS keeps roughly the last 1-2 weeks online.

## `includePreliminary` (type: `boolean`):

Afternoon reports cover the day so far (valid as of ~4-5 PM local). The final report for a day is issued early the next morning.

## `includeRawText` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the original NWS product text for auditing.

## `onlyNewSinceLastRun` (type: `boolean`):

Skip reports already returned in earlier runs, for scheduled feeds.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

You are charged per daily summary returned.

## `contactEmail` (type: `string`):

NWS asks API clients to identify themselves. Leave empty to use the Actor default.
