## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Amazon Best Sellers Scraper - Top 100 Rankings by Category

Scrape Amazon Best Sellers, New Releases and Movers & Shakers rankings for any category and marketplace (US, UK, DE, FR, JP...). One flat record per product: rank, ASIN, title, price and currency, rating, review count, image, category.

### What it does

- Reads the ranking of one or more Amazon categories and returns the products **in rank order**, one flat JSON record per product.
- Works with top-level categories (`/gp/bestsellers/electronics`) and sub-categories (`/zgbs/electronics/172541`), on 20 Amazon marketplaces.
- Three lists: **Best Sellers**, **New Releases** and **Movers & Shakers** (biggest sales-rank gainers over 24 hours).
- Up to the **top 100** per category (Amazon publishes 100 ranks, 50 per page). All 50 ranks of a page are returned, including the 20 that Amazon loads after the first 30.
- Prices are returned as a number plus an ISO currency code, in the currency of the marketplace (USD on amazon.com, GBP on amazon.co.uk, JPY on amazon.co.jp...), whatever the location of the proxy.
- Page text is requested in English on every marketplace, so category names and labels are consistent.

### Input

| Parameter | Type | Required | Default | Description |
|-----------|------|----------|---------|-------------|
| `categoryUrls` | array of strings | Yes | — | Amazon ranking pages, e.g. `https://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/electronics`, `https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/new-releases/kitchen`, or a sub-category URL such as `https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Electronics-Headphones-Earbuds/zgbs/electronics/172541`. A bare root category slug (`electronics`, `books`, `toys-and-games`) is also accepted. |
| `listType` | string | No | `bestsellers` | `bestsellers`, `new-releases` or `movers-and-shakers`. Applied to every category (overrides the list type in the URLs). |
| `domain` | string | No | `amazon.com` | Marketplace used for bare category slugs. A URL keeps its own marketplace. |
| `maxItems` | integer | No | 20 | Top N products per category, in rank order (1-100). |

Example:

```json
{
    "categoryUrls": ["https://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/electronics", "books"],
    "listType": "bestsellers",
    "domain": "amazon.com",
    "maxItems": 50
}
```

### Output

One dataset item per ranked product. Real item from a run on 2026-11-02:

```json
{
    "rank": 1,
    "asin": "B08QRFZ6TH",
    "title": "Barossa Design Oeko-tex Certified Shower Curtain Liner Standard Size, Clear | Waterproof PEVA, Rustproof Grommets, 3 Bottom Magnets, Cute Lightweight Bathroom Curtain, Fits Standard Tub 72\" Length",
    "url": "https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08QRFZ6TH",
    "price": 8.95,
    "currency": "USD",
    "priceText": "$8.95",
    "rating": 4.5,
    "reviewsCount": 102452,
    "thumbnailUrl": "https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/7136-eapqKL._AC_UL300_SR300,200_.jpg",
    "imageUrl": "https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/7136-eapqKL.jpg",
    "rankChangePercent": null,
    "previousRank": null,
    "categoryName": "Home & Kitchen",
    "categoryUrl": "https://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/home-garden",
    "listType": "bestsellers",
    "domain": "amazon.com",
    "scrapedAt": "2026-11-02T20:23:49+00:00"
}
```

| Field | Description |
|-------|-------------|
| `rank` | Position in the list (1-100) |
| `asin` | Amazon product identifier |
| `title` | Product title as shown in the list |
| `url` | Product page, without tracking parameters |
| `price`, `currency`, `priceText` | Displayed price as a number (lowest value of a price range, or the "offers from" price), ISO currency, and the raw text. `null` when Amazon hides the price on the list |
| `rating` | Average star rating out of 5 |
| `reviewsCount` | Number of customer ratings shown next to the stars |
| `thumbnailUrl`, `imageUrl` | List image, and the same image without the resize suffix |
| `rankChangePercent`, `previousRank` | Movers & Shakers only: sales-rank gain over 24 hours and the rank 24 hours earlier (`null` on other lists) |
| `categoryName`, `categoryUrl` | Category as named by Amazon, and the ranking page that was read |
| `listType`, `domain` | List and marketplace |
| `scrapedAt` | ISO 8601 UTC timestamp |

### Pricing

Pay-per-event, no start fee: **$4.10 per 1,000 products** (event `PRODUCT`) on the Apify Free plan, lower on paid plans. You only pay for results pushed to the dataset.

| Apify plan | Price per 1,000 products |
|---|---|
| Free | $4.10 |
| Starter | $3.50 |
| Scale | $3.10 |
| Business | $2.50 |

Set a maximum cost per run in the run options: the Actor stops cleanly when it is reached.

### Limitations

- Amazon publishes only the **top 100** of each list; `maxItems` above 100 is capped at 100.
- Only the data shown on the ranking page is returned. Product details (description, seller, availability, BSR in other categories) require visiting each product page and are not included.
- A few products have no price on the list (Amazon shows "Click for details" or the item is unavailable): `price` is then `null`.
- **Movers & Shakers** lists are often empty on Amazon ("no movers and shakers available in this category"); on 2026-11-02 the Books, Electronics and Toys lists of amazon.com and amazon.co.uk were all empty. The run then fails with that explicit message instead of returning an empty dataset.
- An unknown category slug shows the same empty page on Amazon, so it is reported as "Amazon lists no products here".
- Bare slugs work for root categories only (`electronics`, `books`, `toys-and-games`...). For a sub-category, paste its URL. Root slugs differ between marketplaces (e.g. `ce-de` for electronics on amazon.de).
- Amazon sometimes answers with a robot-check page. The Actor never solves it: it retries with new proxy sessions and fails with an explicit message if every session is blocked.
- Rankings are updated by Amazon about every hour; two runs a few minutes apart can differ.

# Actor input Schema

## `categoryUrls` (type: `array`):

Amazon ranking pages, e.g. https://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/electronics, https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/new-releases/kitchen or https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Electronics-Headphones-Earbuds/zgbs/electronics/172541 (sub-categories work). A bare root category slug such as 'electronics', 'books' or 'toys-and-games' is also accepted and uses the 'domain' field. The marketplace in a URL wins over 'domain'.

## `listType` (type: `string`):

Ranking to read for every category: Best Sellers, New Releases or Movers & Shakers (biggest 24-hour gainers). Overrides the list type found in the URLs.

## `domain` (type: `string`):

Marketplace used for bare category slugs (URLs keep their own marketplace). Prices are returned in the marketplace currency.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Top N products returned for each category, in rank order. Amazon publishes the top 100 of each list (50 per page), so the maximum is 100.

}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `products` (type: `string`):
