## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Amazon Reviews Scraper - Product Reviews & Ratings

Scrape the top reviews shown on an Amazon product page, with ratings, verified purchase status and pseudonymized authors. Supports 9 Amazon marketplaces (.com, .co.uk, .fr, .de, .ca, .co.jp, .com.au, .es, .it). Returns a product summary record and review records in flat JSON.

### Important: which reviews are available

Amazon now shows its full review pages (`/product-reviews/...`) only to signed-in users. This Actor does not log in. It scrapes the **top reviews embedded in the public product page** (`/dp/ASIN`), which is typically **8-13 reviews per product**, including top reviews from other countries when Amazon shows them. The Actor fetches the page with several proxy sessions and merges and deduplicates the results.

- `maxReviews` is an upper bound. You get at most the reviews Amazon shows publicly.
- `sortBy` and `filterByStar` are applied by the Actor to those reviews, not by Amazon to all reviews of the product.
- Products with only star ratings and no written reviews make the run fail with a clear message.
- Captcha or "sign in to see reviews" responses are retried with a new proxy session. Captchas are never solved.

### Input

| Parameter | Type | Required | Default | Description |
|-----------|------|----------|---------|-------------|
| `productUrl` | string | Yes | — | Amazon product URL or ASIN |
| `maxReviews` | integer | No | 50 | Maximum reviews to return (1-5000), capped by what the product page shows |
| `country` | string | No | US | Amazon marketplace (US/UK/FR/DE/CA/JP/AU/ES/IT) |
| `sortBy` | string | No | recent | `recent` (newest first) or `helpful` (most helpful votes first), applied to the scraped reviews |
| `filterByStar` | string | No | all | all/five_star/four_star/three_star/two_star/one_star, applied to the scraped reviews |

### Output

Each run produces a **product info** record followed by **review** records:

```json
{
    "type": "productInfo",
    "productTitle": "Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Headphones",
    "productRating": 4.5,
    "totalReviews": 12345,
    "asin": "B0CHX3QBCH",
    "scrapedAt": "2025-01-15T10:30:00Z"
}
```

```json
{
    "type": "review",
    "reviewId": "R1C4HM0K8O4L1S",
    "title": "Great noise cancellation",
    "text": "Noise cancellation works well on flights and the sound is clear...",
    "rating": 5.0,
    "date": "2024-10-15",
    "author": "John D.",
    "verified": true,
    "country": "United States",
    "helpfulVotes": 12,
    "productTitle": "Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Headphones",
    "productRating": 4.5,
    "totalReviews": 12345,
    "asin": "B0CHX3QBCH",
    "scrapedAt": "2025-01-15T10:30:00Z"
}
```

### Pricing

Pay-per-event, **no start fee**: **$4.20 per 1,000 reviews** on the Apify Free plan, with lower prices on paid plans. The product info record is free.

| Event | Free | Starter | Scale | Business | Enterprise |
|-------|------|---------|-------|----------|------------|
| Review (`REVIEW`) | $4.20 | $3.60 | $3.20 | $2.50 | $2.50 |

Prices in USD per 1,000 events.

### Features

- **Multi-region** — supports 9 Amazon marketplaces
- **Pseudonymized authors** — first name and last initial only ("Jane Doe" becomes "Jane D.")
- **Verified purchase flag** — distinguish verified from unverified reviews
- **Product summary included** — overall rating and total rating count
- **Star filtering** — keep only reviews with a given star rating (among the reviews shown on the product page)
- **Flat JSON output** — all fields at top level for easy processing

### Limitations

- Only the top reviews shown on the public product page are available (typically 8-13 per product). Amazon's full review pages require sign-in, which this Actor does not do.
- `sortBy` and `filterByStar` are applied to those reviews only, so a star filter can return few or no reviews.
- The product info record is free; only review records are charged.
- Products with no written reviews (star ratings only) end with status FAILED and an explanatory message. Runs also end FAILED if the product is not found or if every request is blocked within the time budget.
- `totalReviews` is the product's total rating count as shown by Amazon, not the number of reviews returned.

# Actor input Schema

## `productUrl` (type: `string`):

Amazon product URL or ASIN. Examples: 'https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CHX3QBCH', 'B0CHX3QBCH', 'https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B0CHX3QBCH'

## `maxReviews` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of reviews to return. Amazon now shows its full review pages only to signed-in users, so this Actor returns the top reviews embedded in the product page (typically 8-13 per product, deduplicated). Higher values return at most what Amazon shows publicly.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Amazon marketplace to scrape from.

## `sortBy` (type: `string`):

Order of the returned reviews, applied by the Actor to the reviews shown on the product page: 'recent' = newest first, 'helpful' = most helpful votes first. Amazon-side sorting of all reviews is no longer available without sign-in.

## `filterByStar` (type: `string`):

Keep only reviews with this star rating. Applied by the Actor to the reviews shown on the product page (not to all reviews of the product), so a filter can return few or no results.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "productUrl": "B0CHX3QBCH",
  "maxReviews": 10,
  "country": "US",
  "sortBy": "recent",
  "filterByStar": "all"
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Dataset items shown with the 'results' view.
