# WHOIS Lookup & Domain Expiry Checker: Bulk RDAP + DNS (`swiftkit/domain-lookup`) Actor

Bulk WHOIS domain lookup from the official registry RDAP service: registrar, creation and expiry dates, domain age, status, name servers, DNSSEC, plus DNS (A, MX, SPF, DMARC). Also tells you if a domain is available.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain WHOIS & DNS Lookup: Expiry, Registrar, Availability

Look up many domains at once and get clean registration data straight from the **official
registry service (RDAP)**, the modern replacement for WHOIS run by the registries themselves.

For each domain: **registrar, creation date, expiry date, domain age, days until expiry, status
codes, name servers, DNSSEC**, the owner's organization when it's published, and **DNS records**
(A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT, SPF, DMARC). Unregistered domains come back as `available`.

### Who it's for

- **Domain investors:** check expiry dates and availability for long lists.
- **Sales and lead research:** domain age, email provider (from MX) and owner organization.
- **Security and brand protection:** spot look-alike domains, check SPF/DMARC setup.
- **IT and agencies:** never miss a client's domain renewal.
- **AI agents:** one call, structured JSON.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Domains** | One per line. URLs work too: `https://www.bbc.co.uk/news` → `bbc.co.uk`. |
| Include DNS records | A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT, SPF, DMARC. |
| Include raw RDAP response | The full registry answer, for advanced use. |

### Output

```json
{
  "domain": "stripe.com",
  "status": "registered",
  "registrar": "SafeNames Ltd.",
  "createdAt": "1995-09-12T04:00:00Z",
  "expiresAt": "2027-09-11T04:00:00Z",
  "ageDays": 11342,
  "daysUntilExpiry": 344,
  "domainStatus": ["client transfer prohibited", "server delete prohibited"],
  "nameservers": ["ns-1087.awsdns-07.org", "ns-423.awsdns-52.com"],
  "dnssec": false,
  "registrantOrganization": null,
  "dns": { "mx": ["aspmx.l.google.com"], "spf": "v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com …", "dmarc": "v=DMARC1; p=reject; …" }
}
```

`status` is `registered`, `available`, `no_rdap_for_tld`, `invalid_domain` or `lookup_failed`.

### Pricing

You pay **per domain checked** (registered or available). Invalid domains, failed lookups and
endings without an official RDAP service are free. See the Pricing tab.

### Limits, honestly

- All generic endings (.com, .net, .org, .io, .ai, .app…) and many country endings (.uk, .fr,
  .nl…) have official RDAP. Some country endings (for example .de and .jp) don't yet; those
  return `no_rdap_for_tld` with DNS records, free of charge.
- Owner details are usually redacted for privacy by the registries. We only output the owner's
  **organization** when the registry publishes it, never a private person's name or contacts.
- "Available" means the registry has no record right now. Premium or reserved names may still
  not be purchasable at normal prices.

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("swiftkit/domain-lookup").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
