# RSS Feed Reader & Finder: News, Blogs, Podcasts to JSON (`swiftkit/rss-feeds`) Actor

Read many RSS, Atom and JSON feeds in one run, or just give website addresses and it finds their feeds. Clean JSON: title, link, date, author, summary, image, podcast audio. Keyword filter and 'only new items' mode for monitoring.

## Pricing

$0.30 / 1,000 feed items

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## RSS Feed Reader & Finder: News, Blogs, Podcasts to JSON

Turn any number of feeds into one clean table. Give it **feed URLs or just website addresses**:
if you paste `github.blog`, it finds the site's feed for you.

- **RSS 2.0, Atom, RDF and JSON Feed**
- Clean fields: title, link, publish date (ISO), author, summary text, categories, image
- **Podcasts:** audio file link, type and episode duration
- **Only new items:** each run returns just what's new since the last one. Put it on a schedule
  for news, competitor or brand monitoring.
- **Keyword filter** and **published after** date
- **Fixed price per item, no start fee**

### Who it's for

- **Monitoring:** follow competitors' blogs, release notes, job feeds or news sites.
- **AI agents and newsletters:** a steady stream of fresh, structured articles to summarize.
- **Researchers:** collect posts from many sources into one dataset.
- **Podcast tools:** episode lists with audio links and durations.

### Input

| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Feeds or websites | – | Feed URLs or website addresses, one per line |
| Max items per feed | 50 | Newest first, as the feed lists them |
| Only new items | off | Skip items returned in earlier runs |
| Published after | – | Skip older items |
| Keywords | – | Keep items mentioning any of these words |
| Include full content HTML | off | Adds the full article HTML when the feed has it |

### Output

```json
{
  "feedTitle": "The GitHub Blog",
  "feedUrl": "https://github.blog/feed/",
  "siteUrl": "https://github.blog/",
  "title": "How we found 24 Android vulnerabilities using our …",
  "link": "https://github.blog/security/…",
  "published": "2026-09-28T19:00:00.000Z",
  "author": "…",
  "summary": "A look at the targeted AI taskflows behind …",
  "categories": ["…"],
  "image": null,
  "enclosure": null,
  "guid": "…"
}
```

Sources that fail get one row with `status` and `error` (`no_feed_found`, `unreachable`,
`rate_limited`). Those rows are free.

### Pricing

You pay **per item returned**. No start fee, and sources that fail are free. See the Pricing tab.

### Limits, honestly

- It reads what the feed contains. Most feeds list only the latest 10–50 items, so older posts aren't
  available this way.
- "Only new items" remembers items in your own Apify storage. If you change your list of feeds, the
  new ones start fresh.
- Sites that rate-limit get one polite retry, then a `rate_limited` row. Schedule runs a few minutes
  apart rather than every few seconds.

Feed URLs, or plain website addresses (the feed is found automatically). One per line.

## `maxItemsPerFeed` (type: `integer`):

Newest items first, as the feed lists them.

## `onlyNewItems` (type: `boolean`):

Return only items not seen in your earlier runs with this option on. Perfect for scheduled monitoring.

## `publishedAfter` (type: `string`):

Skip items published before this date.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Keep only items whose title, summary or categories contain any of these words.

## `includeContent` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the item's full HTML when the feed provides it.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many feeds to read in parallel.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "feeds": [
    "https://github.blog",
    "https://www.theverge.com/rss/index.xml"
  ],
  "maxItemsPerFeed": 50,
  "onlyNewItems": false,
  "includeContent": false,
  "maxConcurrency": 10
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per feed item.

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "feeds": [
        "https://github.blog",
        "https://www.theverge.com/rss/index.xml"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("swiftkit/rss-feeds").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
