## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC EDGAR Scraper: 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K Filings, Full-Text Search & Financials

Get **SEC EDGAR** data through the SEC's official public APIs: **filings by ticker or CIK** (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, Form 4, S-1, DEF 14A, 13F and every other form), **full-text search** across all EDGAR filings since 2001, the **live latest-filings feed** to monitor new filings, and **annual or quarterly financials** from XBRL (revenue, gross profit, operating income, net income, EPS, assets, liabilities, equity, cash, operating cash flow, capex, R\&D, debt). No login and no API key needed.

- ✅ **Filings mode**: company filing history by ticker or CIK with form, date and item filters, plus direct document and index links
- ✅ **8-K items** (such as `5.02` executive change or `1.05` cybersecurity incident) on every 8-K
- ✅ **Full-text search** with exact phrases, form filters and a date range
- ✅ **Latest filings** feed for near real-time monitoring of new 8-Ks, Form 4 insider trades and more
- ✅ **Financials mode**: clean annual or quarterly statement rows with `net_margin_pct` and the XBRL concept used for each value
- ✅ **Only new filings** monitoring. You pay only for filings you haven't seen.

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription:

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Filing | **$0.0004** ($0.40 per 1,000) |
| Financials row (one year or quarter) | $0.002 |
| Actor start (per run) | $0.002 |

The default run (30 filings) costs about $0.014. Five years of financials for one company cost about $0.012.

### Use cases

- **Investment research**: filing history, 8-K events and multi-year fundamentals in one dataset.
- **Event-driven alerts**: new 8-Ks (executive changes, M\&A, cybersecurity incidents) and Form 4 insider trades.
- **Compliance and due diligence**: find every filing that mentions a company, person or phrase.
- **Financial datasets and AI**: clean statement data with links to the source documents.
- **Sales intelligence**: newly public companies (S-1), funding (Form D) and leadership changes.

### FAQ

**Which sources are used?** Only official SEC endpoints: `data.sec.gov` submissions and XBRL company facts, EDGAR full-text search (`efts.sec.gov`) and the EDGAR latest-filings feed. Requests identify themselves with a User-Agent and stay well under the SEC's 10 requests per second limit. Add your own `contactEmail` to identify your runs to the SEC.

**How accurate are the financials?** Values come straight from companies' XBRL filings. For each period the Actor picks the standard US-GAAP tag (for example `Revenues` or `RevenueFromContractWithCustomerExcludingAssessedTax`) and uses the latest filed value, so restatements are included. `concepts_used` shows which tag was used. Banks, insurers and IFRS filers can have gaps.

**Can I use CIK numbers?** Yes. `companies` accepts tickers (`AAPL`), CIKs (`320193` or `0000320193`) or exact company names as listed by the SEC (`Apple Inc.`).

**What is in Form 4 latest-filings records?** One record per filing, with the issuer as `company` and the insiders in `reporting_owners`.

### Need a custom scraper or data pipeline?

If you need other public filings or financial data, extra fields, or the results delivered to Google Sheets, a database or an n8n workflow on a schedule, I take custom projects on Fiverr: [Python scraping scripts and n8n automation workflows](https://www.fiverr.com/sysco32/build-python-scraping-scripts-and-n8n-automation-workflows). Public data only; message me with the details first and I'll confirm whether it's doable.
