## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News Scraper: search, topics and places with real publisher URLs

Search Google News for any keyword, read its front-page topics or local headlines, in 50 country and language editions, and get clean rows: headline, publisher, **the publisher's real article URL** (not Google's redirect link), publish time, related coverage and, if you ask for it, the article text, author and lead image.

Schedule it hourly or daily with **How recent** and you have a news feed for a brand, a competitor, a market or a person. Set **Published after / before** with a high **Max articles** and it goes past Google's 100-story cap by splitting the range into day windows.

$2.50 per 1,000 articles with publisher URLs, platform usage included. No API key, no login.

### What you get

One row per article:

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| `title` | Headline, without the " - Publisher" suffix Google appends |
| `publisher`, `publisherDomain` | Who published it, e.g. `Reuters` and `reuters.com` |
| `publisherUrl` | The publisher's real article URL, decoded from Google's redirect link (empty if you turn the option off or Google would not decode it) |
| `googleNewsUrl` | Google News' own link |
| `publishedAt` | ISO publish time |
| `query`, `topic`, `place` | Which input found it (only one is set) |
| `rank` | Position in Google's results for that input |
| `edition`, `language`, `country` | The Google News edition you searched |
| `relatedArticles` | Other coverage Google grouped under the story (topic and place feeds): title, publisher and Google link |
| `snippet`, `author`, `imageUrl`, `body` | From the publisher's page, with **Include article text** only |
| `bodyStatus` | `ok`, `paywalled`, `blocked`, `no-text`, `gone`, `failed`, or why no page was read |
| `capturedAt` | When the row was collected |

The same story found through several queries is delivered once.

### Who uses this

- **PR and brand teams.** Track every mention of a company, product or executive, with the outlet and the real link. For ongoing alerts across news, Hacker News and more, see [Brand & News Monitor](https://apify.com/tagadanar/brand-news-monitor).
- **Market, finance and competitive intelligence.** Pull the last week or month of coverage for a ticker, a sector or a rival, one outlet at a time with `site:`.
- **AI and research teams.** Build news datasets with article text by topic, language or country.
- **SEO and content teams.** See which outlets cover your topics and what Google ranks first.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| Search queries | One per line. Google's own operators work: `"exact phrase"`, `OR`, `-exclude`, `site:reuters.com`, `intitle:merger` |
| Topics | Front-page sections: Top stories, World, Nation, Business, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Science, Health |
| Places | City, region or country for local headlines, e.g. `Paris`, `Texas` |
| Edition | 50 Google News editions (language and country): sets the language and country of the results |
| How recent | Any time, past hour, 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, past year |
| Published after / before | Exact dates (`2026-10-01`, inclusive). Overrides How recent |
| Max articles per query | Up to 5,000. Google serves at most 100 per search, so above 100 (or with exact dates) the actor splits the range into day windows |
| Resolve the publisher URL | On by default |
| Include article text | Off by default. Adds text, author, lead image and description from the publisher's page |

Example:

```json
{
  "queries": ["openai", "\"interest rates\" site:reuters.com"],
  "topics": ["TECHNOLOGY"],
  "edition": "en-US",
  "publishedAfter": "2026-10-01",
  "maxArticlesPerQuery": 400,
  "resolvePublisherUrl": true,
  "includeArticleText": false
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event, platform usage included, plus a flat start fee per run.

| Plan | Article | + Publisher URL resolved | + Article text read | Run start |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Free | $2.00 / 1,000 | $0.50 / 1,000 | $1.00 / 1,000 | $0.001 |
| Bronze | $1.80 / 1,000 | $0.45 / 1,000 | $0.90 / 1,000 | $0.001 |
| Silver | $1.60 / 1,000 | $0.40 / 1,000 | $0.80 / 1,000 | $0.001 |
| Gold | $1.40 / 1,000 | $0.35 / 1,000 | $0.70 / 1,000 | $0.001 |

- **Article** is charged for each row delivered. **Publisher URL resolved** only for links that were actually decoded. **Article text read** only for pages whose text was really extracted: paywalled, blocked and text-less pages are named in the status and in `bodyStatus` and are **not** charged as text.
- A default run (URLs on, text off) is $2.50 per 1,000 articles on the Free plan.
- Queries Google has nothing for cost nothing beyond the start fee. Set a maximum charge per run and the actor stops when it is reached.

### Limits and honest caveats

- **100 stories per search window.** Google News serves at most 100 stories per search and orders them by relevance, not time. The actor goes deeper by splitting the date range in halves until each window is under the cap, down to single days. A single day that still hits 100 may hold more: add `site:` or a sharper phrase. The status says when this happened.
- **Topic and place feeds** hold what Google features right now (about 30 to 70 stories). They have no history; schedule the run.
- **Snippet.** Google News no longer sends article snippets. `snippet` is the publisher page's own description and is filled only with Include article text.
- **Publisher URLs** come from the same decoding call Google's own article page makes. If Google throttles it, the row keeps its Google News link, `publisherUrl` is empty, it is not charged as resolved, and the status counts how many.
- **Article text** is read straight from the publisher's page. Sites that block automated requests (many large outlets), sit behind a paywall or render only in JavaScript return no text; the row says which. Free local and trade outlets work best.
- **Dates and time zones.** `after:` / `before:` operate on whole days (UTC); publish times are exact.
- The data is Google News' public feed; Google's terms apply to how you use it.

### FAQ

**Do I need an API key?** No.

**Can I get more than 100 results for a keyword?** Yes: give a date range (or set a Max above 100) and the actor works through it day by day.

**Why is `publisherUrl` empty for a row?** You turned resolution off, or Google refused to decode that link. The run status says how many.

**Can I search one outlet?** Yes: `site:reuters.com tariffs`.

**How is this different from Brand & News Monitor?** That actor watches your brand names across Google News, GDELT and Hacker News and, in monitor mode, reports only mentions it has not reported before. This one is the general Google News search and export tool: operators, topics, places, 50 editions, date ranges and article text.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

What to search Google News for, one per line. Google's own operators work: "exact phrase", OR, -exclude, site:reuters.com, intitle:word. Date operators (when:, after:, before:) are added for you from the date fields below.

## `topics` (type: `array`):

Google News sections to read in the chosen edition. Each section returns the stories Google currently features (about 30-70), with related coverage clustered under each story.

## `places` (type: `array`):

City, region or country names for Google News local headlines, one per line, e.g. Paris, Texas, Tokyo.

## `edition` (type: `string`):

Which regional Google News to read. Sets the language and the country of the results.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Only stories published inside this window. Ignored when you set Published after / before.

## `publishedAfter` (type: `string`):

Only keep stories published on or after this date, e.g. 2026-10-01. With a date range the actor splits the range into day windows to get past Google's 100-story cap per search. Leave empty to use How recent.

## `publishedBefore` (type: `string`):

Only keep stories published on or before this date (inclusive), e.g. 2026-10-10. Without Published after, the 90 days before this date are searched.

## `maxArticlesPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

Stop each query, topic or place after this many articles. Google returns at most 100 per search window; above 100 the actor splits the date range into day windows to go deeper. You only pay for articles delivered.

## `resolvePublisherUrl` (type: `boolean`):

Google News links are redirect links. Turn on to decode each one into the publisher's real article URL (a small extra per resolved link). Turn off for the cheapest run: you still get title, publisher, date and the Google News link.

## `includeArticleText` (type: `boolean`):

Opens each publisher page and adds the article text, author, lead image and description. Needs the publisher URL. Paywalled, blocked and text-less pages are named in the status and the row, and are NOT charged as text.
