## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What does Built In Tech Jobs Scraper do?

It collects tech job listings from Built In (builtin.com) and returns one clean record per job: title, company, location, workplace type (remote, hybrid, in office), salary range, seniority, top skills, company industries, a summary and, optionally, the full description, exact posted date, employment type and benefits. Filter by keyword, city, job category and workplace type to keep runs small. Pricing is per result.

### Data source

Public Built In job listing pages and the structured job data (JobPosting JSON-LD) embedded in each public job page, read live on every run.

### Why use it?

- Lead generation: find companies that are hiring for a given stack in a given city.
- Salary research: Built In publishes salary ranges on many roles, returned both as text and as numbers.
- Job monitoring: schedule a daily run and send new jobs to Slack, Google Sheets or a webhook.
- Market research: count roles, skills and seniority by city or category.

### How to use it

1. Open the Actor and set the filters.
2. Click Start. Download results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.
3. Add a Schedule and an Integration (Slack, Google Sheets, webhook) to get new records automatically.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `searchTerms` | Keyword search, for example `python` or `data engineer`. Empty means all jobs. |
| `city`, `state`, `country` | Location filter, for example `New York`, `New York`, `USA`. State is needed for US cities. |
| `category` | Job category: dev-engineering, data-analytics, design-ux, product, marketing, sales, project-management, hr, finance, legal, operations, content, customer-success. |
| `workplace` | `remote`, `hybrid` or `in-office`. Empty means any. |
| `includeDetails` | Open each job page for the full description, exact date, employment type, numeric salary and benefits. Default on. |
| `maxResults` | Hard stop for the run. You are billed per result, so this caps the cost. |
| `proxyConfiguration` | Apify proxy is recommended for larger runs. |

Example input:

```json
{ "searchTerms": "python", "city": "New York", "state": "New York", "workplace": "hybrid", "maxResults": 50 }
```

### Output

Every record has the same shape:

```json
{
  "id": "builtin:9316953",
  "jobId": "9316953",
  "title": "Security Engineer - Cloud Security Controls",
  "company": "PNC Bank",
  "companyUrl": "https://builtin.com/company/pnc-financial-services-group",
  "location": "Strongsville, OH, USA",
  "workplaceType": "Hybrid",
  "salary": "91K-186K Annually",
  "seniority": "Senior level",
  "postedText": "Reposted 9 Minutes Ago",
  "url": "https://builtin.com/job/security-engineer-cloud-security-controls/9316953",
  "industries": ["Machine Learning", "Payments", "Security", "Software", "Financial Services"],
  "topSkills": ["AWS", "Azure", "Bash", "Python", "SQL"],
  "datePosted": "2026-10-15",
  "validThrough": "2026-11-14T08:11:39+00:00",
  "employmentType": "FULL_TIME",
  "salaryMin": 91000,
  "salaryMax": 185900,
  "salaryCurrency": "USD",
  "salaryPeriod": "YEAR",
  "remote": false,
  "locations": ["Strongsville, Ohio"],
  "benefits": ["Offers 401(K)", "Provides 401(K) matching"],
  "description": "Job Profile ...",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-15T08:20:56.247Z"
}
```

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `id` | Stable key, safe for deduplication between runs |
| `salary` | Salary text as shown on the listing, empty when the employer does not publish one |
| `salaryMin`, `salaryMax` | Numeric range from the job page (needs `includeDetails`) |
| `industries` | Industries of the hiring company as tagged by Built In |
| `postedText` | Relative age shown on the listing, for example "Reposted 9 Minutes Ago" |
| `datePosted` | ISO date from the job page (needs `includeDetails`) |

### Pricing

Pay per event: a small fee when a run starts, then a fixed price per result returned. You only pay for records that pass your filters. Set `maxResults` to cap any run.

### Limitations

- Built In shows about 25 jobs per page and the Actor follows the pages until `maxResults` or the end of the results.
- Salary is only present when the employer published one.
- Jobs with several locations show a count such as "3 Locations" in `location`; the cities are in `locations` when `includeDetails` is on.
- Company profile pages are not scraped, only the company name and link on each job.

### FAQ

**Is this legal?** The Actor reads listings the site publishes for any visitor without a login and stores only business information published for that purpose. You are responsible for how you use the data.

**Something is missing or broken?** Open an issue in the Issues tab; response time is usually under a day.
