## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What does ClinicalTrials.gov Trials Scraper do?

It searches ClinicalTrials.gov, the US registry of clinical studies, and returns one clean record per trial. Filter by condition, sponsor, location, recruitment status and phase. Each record includes the sponsor, collaborators, dates, enrollment, interventions, eligibility rules, recruiting sites with their contacts, central contacts and principal investigators. Filters keep runs small, and pricing is per result.

### Data source

The Actor reads the public ClinicalTrials.gov API v2 (`clinicaltrials.gov/api/v2/studies`), which is updated daily by the registry.

### Why use it?

- Build lead lists of trial sponsors, sites and recruiting contacts for CROs, recruitment agencies and clinical suppliers.
- Monitor new or updated trials for a condition, drug class or competitor sponsor.
- Feed research, market sizing or pipeline analysis with structured data instead of manual exports.
- Replace copy and paste from the website or a stale CSV download.

### How to use it

1. Open the Actor and set the filters.
2. Click Start. Download results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.
3. Add a Schedule and an Integration (Slack, Google Sheets, webhook) to get new records automatically.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `condition` | Condition, disease or keyword, for example `breast cancer`. Empty means all conditions. |
| `sponsor` | Sponsor, collaborator or institution, for example `Pfizer`. Optional. |
| `location` | City, state or country where the trial recruits, for example `Texas`. Optional. |
| `statuses` | Recruitment statuses to keep, such as `RECRUITING` or `COMPLETED`. Empty means all. |
| `phases` | Trial phases to keep, such as `PHASE2` or `PHASE3`. Empty means all. |
| `maxResults` | Hard stop for the run. You are billed per result, so this caps the cost. |
| `proxyConfiguration` | Optional. The public API works without a proxy. |

Example input:

```json
{
    "condition": "asthma",
    "location": "Canada",
    "statuses": ["RECRUITING", "NOT_YET_RECRUITING"],
    "phases": ["PHASE3"],
    "maxResults": 100
}
```

### Output

Every record has the same shape. Results are sorted by most recently updated first. Example (trimmed):

```json
{
    "id": "NCT07309614",
    "nctId": "NCT07309614",
    "title": "A Study Assessing the Effect of Dupilumab on Inducing Clinical Remission in Asthma",
    "phases": ["PHASE3"],
    "conditions": ["Asthma Control"],
    "leadSponsor": "Université de Sherbrooke",
    "sponsorClass": "OTHER",
    "enrollment": 150,
    "startDate": "2026-01-29",
    "primaryCompletionDate": "2029-01-01",
    "lastUpdatePostDate": "2026-10-02",
    "collaborators": ["Sanofi", "University of Oxford"],
    "interventions": [{ "type": "DRUG", "name": "Dupilumab Prefilled Syringe" }],
    "eligibility": { "sex": "ALL", "minimumAge": "18 Years", "maximumAge": "79 Years", "healthyVolunteers": false },
    "centralContacts": [],
    "countries": ["Australia", "Canada", "United Kingdom"],
    "siteCount": 5,
    "sites": [
            "facility": "Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital",
            "city": "Nedlands",
            "state": "Western Australia",
            "country": "Australia",
            "status": "RECRUITING",
            "contacts": [{ "name": "Sanjay Ramakrishnan, MD", "role": "PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR", "phone": null, "email": null }]
        }
    ],
    "hasResults": false,
    "scrapedAt": "2026-10-04T08:32:49.852Z"
}
```

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `id` / `nctId` | Registry number, stable key for deduplication between runs |
| `status`, `phases` | Recruitment status and trial phase |
| `leadSponsor`, `sponsorClass`, `collaborators` | Who runs and funds the trial |
| `startDate`, `primaryCompletionDate`, `completionDate` | ISO dates (month only dates map to the first of the month) |
| `eligibility` | Sex, age range, healthy volunteers flag and the full criteria text |
| `centralContacts`, `overallOfficials` | Study level contacts and investigators, as published |
| `sites` | Up to 200 sites per trial with location, status and site contacts |
| `siteCount`, `countries` | Total site count and distinct countries |

### Pricing

Pay per event: a small fee when a run starts, then a fixed price per result returned. You only pay for records that pass your filters. Set `maxResults` to cap any run.

### Limitations

- Contact names, phones and emails appear only where the sponsor published them, and many trials list none.
- Sites are capped at 200 per trial (`siteCount` shows the true total).
- Data is only as complete and current as the registry. Trials registered outside ClinicalTrials.gov are not covered.
- Result sets are limited by what the registry matches for your search terms; broad searches can return thousands of trials, so use `maxResults`.

### FAQ

**Is this legal?** The Actor reads the public registry API that ClinicalTrials.gov provides for any visitor without a login and stores only information published for recruitment and transparency purposes. You are responsible for how you use the data.

**Something is missing or broken?** Open an issue in the Issues tab; response time is usually under a day.

# Actor input Schema

## `condition` (type: `string`):

Condition, disease or keyword, for example breast cancer or type 2 diabetes. Leave empty to search all conditions.

## `sponsor` (type: `string`):
