## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What does USAJOBS Federal Jobs Scraper do?

It searches open federal job announcements on USAJOBS, the official US government jobs site, and returns clean structured records: title, agency, department, pay plan and grade, salary range, open and close dates, occupation series, locations, and the full announcement text (duties, qualifications, education, how to apply, agency contact). Filter by keyword, occupation series, GS grade, agency and location so a run returns only the openings you care about. Pricing is per result.

### Data source

Public USAJOBS search results and job announcement pages, the same data any visitor sees on usajobs.gov, read live on every run. No login or API key is needed.

### Why use it?

- Recruiters and staffing firms: track new openings by series and grade, and see the agency contact for each one.
- Job boards and career sites: feed a niche board (nursing, IT, contracting, law enforcement) with fresh federal listings.
- Researchers and analysts: study federal hiring by agency, series, location, pay plan and salary.
- Job seekers and coaches: build a daily list of GS 11 to 13 openings in one city without clicking through pages.
- It replaces manual browsing, saved search emails, and stale spreadsheet exports.

### How to use it

1. Open the Actor and set the filters.
2. Click Start. Download results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.
3. Add a Schedule and an Integration (Slack, Google Sheets, webhook) to get new records automatically.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `keyword` | Search words, as in the USAJOBS search box. Leave empty to list all open jobs. |
| `location` | City and state, state, or ZIP code, for example `Washington, DC`. |
| `occupationSeries` | Four digit OPM series codes, for example `2210` (IT management) or `0610` (nurse). |
| `agency` | Department names or codes (VA, DoD, Army, Navy, Air Force, DHS, DOJ, HHS, USDA, Treasury, State and others). Other text, such as `Social Security`, is matched against the agency name. |
| `grades` | GS grades to keep, for example `12`, `13`. A job is kept when its grade range covers any of them. |
| `includeDetails` | On by default. Opens each announcement to add duties, qualifications, how to apply, salary range, all locations and the agency contact. Turn off for a faster list only run. |
| `maxResults` | Hard stop for the run. You are billed per result, so this caps the cost. |
| `proxyConfiguration` | Apify proxy is recommended for larger runs. |

Example input:

```json
{
    "keyword": "data analyst",
    "location": "Washington, DC",
    "grades": ["12", "13"],
    "maxResults": 50
}
### Pricing
Pay per event: a small fee when a run starts, then a fixed price per result returned. You only pay for records that pass your filters. Set `maxResults` to cap any run.
### Limitations
- Only open announcements are returned. Closed jobs are not listed by USAJOBS.
- One search returns at most 10,000 jobs, the limit of the site itself. Narrow the filters to go deeper.
- Grade and agency name filters (other than the main departments) are applied after the search, so very narrow combinations scan more pages and take longer.
- Some announcements omit fields such as vacancies or contact email. Those come back as `null`.
- Positions with no GS grade (wage grade, Veterans Health Administration and other pay plans) are not kept when you set `grades`.
### FAQ
**Is this legal?** The Actor reads listings the site publishes for any visitor without a login and stores only business information published for that purpose. You are responsible for how you use the data.
**Do I need a USAJOBS API key?** No.
**Something is missing or broken?** Open an issue in the Issues tab; response time is usually under a day.
