## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## itch.io Scraper: Games, Assets, Prices, Sales & Ratings

Export **itch.io projects to JSON, CSV or Excel**. Covers **games, game assets, tools, soundtracks, comics, books, physical games and mods**. Pick a category, sort order (popular, top sellers, top rated, newest), price filter (free, paid, on sale, $5 or less), platform and any number of **tags**. Or paste any itch.io browse URL. Each item comes with **price, full price, discount %, sale end time, genre, platforms, creator and publish/update dates**. Turn on page details to add **star rating and rating count, tags, engine ("made with"), status, authors, languages, inputs, links, AI-content note and the full description**.

**$1 per 1,000 items**, plus $2 per 1,000 when page details are on. No login, no proxies, no browser.

### How it works (and why it's polite)

itch.io publishes an official RSS feed for every browse page (add `.xml` to the URL). This Actor reads those feeds, 36 items per page, and pages through them. It skips `/search`, which itch.io's robots.txt disallows. With page details on, it reads each public project page at a gentle rate (4 at a time, with pauses). It doesn't log in, bypass anything or download files.

### Use cases

- **Indie game market research**: what sells and what rates well in a tag (roguelike, cozy, horror, visual novel), at what price and on which engine.
- **Asset store pricing**: price points and discounts for top-selling pixel-art, 3D or audio packs before you set your own.
- **Sale tracking**: run daily on `on-sale` to catch discounts and when they end.
- **Publisher and curator scouting**: find highly rated new projects (use `newest` or `new-and-popular` with `minRatingCount`).
- **Datasets**: tags, engines, platforms and ratings for analysis or AI work.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `category` | `games`, `game-assets`, `tools`, `soundtracks`, `comics`, `books`, `physical-games`, `game-mods`, `misc`. |
| `sortBy` | `popular`, `new-and-popular`, `top-sellers`, `top-rated`, `newest`. |
| `price` | `any`, `free`, `paid`, `on-sale`, `under-5`, `under-15`. |
| `platform` | `any`, `windows`, `macos`, `linux`, `android`, `ios`, `web`. |
| `tags` | One listing per tag, e.g. `["roguelike", "pixel-art"]`. |
| `startUrls` | Any itch.io browse URLs (these override the filters above). |
| `includeDetails` | Read each project page for rating, tags, engine and more (+$0.002/item). |
| `minRatingCount` | With details on, keep only projects with at least this many ratings. |
| `maxItemsPerSource` / `maxTotalItems` | Cost caps. |

```json
{ "category": "game-assets", "sortBy": "top-sellers", "tags": ["pixel-art"], "includeDetails": true, "maxItemsPerSource": 100 }
```

### Output

```json
{
  "rank": 1, "title": "Modern Interiors - RPG Tileset [16X16]", "url": "https://limezu.itch.io/moderninteriors",
  "creator": "limezu", "creatorUrl": "https://limezu.itch.io", "price": 0.0, "currency": "USD", "isFree": true,
  "onSale": true, "discountPercent": 50, "fullPrice": 0.0, "saleEndsAt": "2026-10-24T17:10:00+00:00",
  "platforms": ["linux", "windows"], "shortDescription": "16x16 tilesets for your top-down game",
  "publishedAt": "2020-06-14T16:49:02+00:00", "updatedAt": "2025-09-19T17:27:53+00:00",
  "rating": 4.9, "ratingCount": 611, "status": "Released", "authors": ["LimeZu"],
  "madeWith": ["Unity", "GameMaker", "RPG Maker"], "tags": ["16x16", "2D", "Pixel Art", "Tileset", "Top-Down"],
  "noGenerativeAI": true, "description": "...", "source": "https://itch.io/game-assets/top-sellers/tag-pixel-art",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-24T13:40:00+00:00"
}
```

Prices are what itch.io's feed shows (USD in most cases). Some pay-what-you-want projects show a $0 price with a discount label; that's how itch.io reports them.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.001 per item** and **$0.002 per project page** when details are on. 1,000 projects with full details cost about $3. With the default input, a run returns the 100 most popular games (about $0.10).

### Limits

- itch.io decides what each browse page lists. Deep pages of very large categories can thin out.
- Ratings, tags and engine only appear on project pages, so they need `includeDetails`.
- Not affiliated with itch.io. Use the data in line with itch.io's terms.
