## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store Reviews Scraper & Insights

Turn iOS App Store reviews into a decision-ready report in one run: **what users complain about, which app version hurt ratings, and how sentiment moves month to month**, for your app or any competitor, in as many countries as you like.

Data comes only from Apple's **official public endpoints** (the customer-reviews RSS feed and the iTunes Lookup API). No login, no cookies, no proxies, no scraping of private pages.

### What you get

For every app × country, one **summary** row:

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `appName`, `developer`, `genre`, `price`, `currentVersion` | From Apple's Lookup API |
| `storeAverageRating`, `storeRatingCount` | Apple's overall rating |
| `reviewsFetched`, `fetchedAverageRating` | Rating of the most recent reviews (up to 500 per country, Apple's limit) |
| `ratingDistribution`, `negativeShare` | 1–5★ counts and the share of 1–2★ |
| `ratingByVersion` | Average rating per app version: spot the release that broke things |
| `ratingByMonth` | Monthly trend |
| `complaintThemes` | Crashes/bugs, login/account, pricing/subscription, ads, performance, sync/data loss, bad update/UI, support, notifications, with counts, share and an example quote |
| `topNegativeTerms`, `topNegativePhrases` | Most frequent words and two-word phrases in 1–2★ reviews |
| `mostHelpfulNegative` | The 3 most up-voted critical reviews |

Optionally every individual review as its own row (`type: "review"`): id, title, text, rating, version, author, date, votes.

### Use cases

- Competitor research before building an app: find the pain points users already pay to escape.
- Product teams: catch a bad release within days, by version.
- Agencies / ASO: monthly review reports for clients across countries.
- AI agents (via Apify MCP server): give an LLM a compact, structured review digest instead of raw text.

### Input

```json
{
  "apps": ["https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ynab/id1010865877", "284882215"],
  "countries": ["us", "gb", "de"],
  "maxReviewsPerCountry": 200,
  "includeReviews": true
}
```

### Pricing (pay per event)

- **App report**: one per app × country summary.
- **Review**: per individual review row (only when `includeReviews` is on).

Turn `includeReviews` off to pay only for summaries.

### Limits

Apple's public feed exposes at most the ~500 most recent reviews per app per country. Older history is not available from Apple publicly, so this Actor does not claim it.

### Support

Open an issue on the Actor's Issues tab. Built by TanLabs.
