## Pricing

from $24.00 / 1,000 document converteds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Office to PDF Converter (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ODF, RTF)

Give it a list of links to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument or RTF files. It converts each one to PDF and returns **one result row per file** with the page count and a **public download link** to the PDF in the run's key-value store.

### What it converts

DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, ODT, ODS, ODP, RTF and plain text (CSV is printed as text). The format is detected from the content, not the file name. Not supported: a PDF, images, audio, archives, legacy `.doc` / `.xls` / `.ppt`, HTML, EPUB and other OpenDocument types. Those rows come back as `failed` with the reason, and are not charged.

Conversion is done by LibreOffice 7.4, not Microsoft Office, on Tanod's servers. There are no layout options: page size and orientation are the document's own.

### Input

```json
{
  "urls": [
    "https://calibre-ebook.com/downloads/demos/demo.docx"
  ]
}
```

| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| `urls` | Public http(s) links to the files, up to 200 per run. Duplicates are removed. Each file can be up to 20 MB. Private, internal and IP-address hosts are refused. |

### Output

One row per link, in input order:

```json
{
  "url": "https://calibre-ebook.com/downloads/demos/demo.docx",
  "status": "converted",
  "format": "docx",
  "inputBytes": 1311881,
  "pages": 9,
  "outputUrl": "https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/<store-id>/records/001-demo.pdf",
  "outputKey": "001-demo.pdf",
  "outputBytes": 106203,
  "activeContentRemoved": {},
  "notes": [
    "Rendered by LibreOffice 7.4, so layout and page breaks can differ from Microsoft Office. ..."
  ],
  "error": null
}
```

`status` is `converted`, `failed` or `invalid_input`. On `failed`, `error` says why (for example a password-protected or damaged file). The PDFs are stored in the run's default key-value store under the key shown in `outputKey`.

### Use it from Google Sheets or a no-code tool

1. Put one Word, Excel or PowerPoint link per row in a sheet column, copy the column and paste it into the input.
2. Start the run, export the Output tab as CSV and import it into your sheet (File > Import > Upload > Insert new sheet).
3. Each row's `outputUrl` is a download link for the PDF; bring it next to each file link with XLOOKUP on the `url` column.

Apify also connects actors to Make, Zapier and n8n, so an automation can turn new Office files into PDFs as they arrive and save them to cloud storage.

1,000 files cost $30 here, with no monthly subscription.

### Use it from Claude, Cursor or another MCP client

Add Apify's MCP server with this actor as a tool: `https://mcp.apify.com?tools=tanod/office-to-pdf-converter`. Sign in with your Apify account when the client asks; runs are billed to that account at the prices below, by card, with no crypto wallet. Your assistant can then call it in a chat or agent loop.

### Pricing

Pay per event, with no subscription:

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Document converted (`document-converted`) | **$30 per 1,000** ($0.03 each) |
| Actor start | Apify's default start fee |

Only documents that convert successfully are charged. Invalid links and failed conversions are free. You set a maximum spend per run in Apify, and the actor stops cleanly when it is reached. 100 documents cost $3.00 plus the start fee.

**Can an AI agent pay for it without an Apify account?** Yes. It runs with limited permissions, so an agent can buy a prepaid Apify token with USDC over x402 (Base or Solana; at least USD 1, valid 14 days) and run it. See [Apify's x402 docs](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/x402).

### Limits and safety

- **Layout can differ from Microsoft Office.** LibreOffice renders the file. Fonts that are not installed are substituted (Liberation for Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New, DejaVu for Calibri, Cambria and others), so a document can run to more pages. Latin, Greek and Cyrillic text renders; Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Devanagari show missing-glyph boxes.
- **Macros never run**, and nothing in the document is fetched: linked pictures and objects are blocked, remote data is not loaded and XML entities are never resolved. A picture or object linked from a file on disk (a `file:` URL or a relative path) makes that file fail; embed it and try again.
- **Unsafe links are removed.** Hyperlinks to http, https, mailto and places in the document are kept. Links of any other kind (`javascript:`, `file:`, `smb:` and similar) are removed from the PDF and counted in `activeContentRemoved`.
- **Size and time.** Up to 20 MB per input link and 15 MB of output per file. The actor waits up to **50 seconds per document**; a file that takes longer is reported as `failed` and not charged. Typical conversions take 2 to 10 seconds.
- Password-protected or damaged files, ZIP bombs, documents over 2,000 pages and very large documents are refused (not charged).
- **Nothing is kept by the converter after the call.** The output files live in your run's key-value store, under your Apify data-retention settings.
