## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Market Sentiment Scraper: Fear & Greed Index for Stocks and Crypto

One run, one clean snapshot of how fearful or greedy the market is right now, with the numbers behind it. Built for trading dashboards, risk models, newsletters, and AI agents that need a sentiment reading they can act on without parsing a web page.

### What you get

**Stocks: CNN Business Fear & Greed Index.** The headline score (0 to 100) and rating, the previous close, one-week, one-month and one-year values, the change against each, and all seven components the index is built from, each with its own score, rating, and raw value:

- market momentum (S\&P 500 vs its 125-day average)
- stock price strength (net 52-week highs minus lows)
- stock price breadth (McClellan volume summation)
- put/call options ratio
- market volatility (VIX)
- junk bond demand (yield spread)
- safe haven demand (stocks vs bonds, 20 days)

Plus the VIX level and put/call ratio at top level, one-year statistics (min, max, mean, and where today's score sits as a percentile), and up to 250 trading days of daily history.

**Crypto: Fear & Greed Index** from Alternative.me: value, classification, time to the next update, one-day and seven-day change, statistics, and daily history back to 2018 if you want it.

### Options

- **Indexes**: stocks, crypto, or both (default).
- **History days**: how much daily history to include, default 30. Set 0 for the snapshot only.
- **History as separate records**: push one record per day, with every component's value on that day, instead of embedding history. Useful for backtests and charts.

### Pricing

Pay per event: one `sentiment-snapshot` event per index fetched (two per run with both indexes), and one `sentiment-history-point` event per daily record when **History as separate records** is on. Embedded history inside the snapshot is free.

### Scheduling

Both indexes update daily. Schedule the Actor once a day after the US close for a complete series, or every few hours for intraday readings of the CNN index.

### Data and attribution

Stock market sentiment comes from the CNN Business Fear & Greed Index and crypto sentiment from the Alternative.me Crypto Fear & Greed Index. Every record carries a `source` field naming its index; keep that attribution next to the data when you publish it, as Alternative.me requires. The Actor sends a declared user agent and makes one request per index per run.

# Actor input Schema

## `sources` (type: `array`):

Which indexes to fetch: stocks (CNN Fear & Greed) and crypto (Alternative.me Crypto Fear & Greed).

## `historyDays` (type: `integer`):

How many days of daily history to include. Up to about 250 trading days for stocks; any number for crypto. 0 disables history.

## `historyAsRecords` (type: `boolean`):

Push one dataset record per day (with every component's value on that day) instead of embedding history inside the snapshot. Charged per history point.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "sources": [
    "stocks",
    "crypto"
  ],
  "historyDays": 30,
  "historyAsRecords": false
}
