## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## New Zealand Charities Register with Financials

Export every registered New Zealand charity, about 27,000 organizations, from the official **Charities Register** run by Charities Services, with each charity's **latest annual return**: income by source, expenditure, assets, liabilities, staff, and volunteers. Built for fundraising and grant prospect research, nonprofit software and services sales, sector analysts, and AI agents that need reliable facts about New Zealand charities.

### What you get

For every charity: registration number, name and other names, registration status and dates, NZBN and Companies Office number, group membership, website, email, phone, street and postal address, main sector, activity and beneficiary, all sectors, activities, beneficiaries, areas of operation and sources of funds, the charitable purpose, and a link to the register page. From the latest annual return:

- **Income**: total gross income, donations and koha, bequests, government grants and contracts, other grants and sponsorship, membership fees, service and trading income, and investment income.
- **Spending**: total expenditure, salaries and wages, cost of service provision, grants paid inside and outside New Zealand, and fundraising expenses.
- **Balance sheet**: total assets, cash, investments, liabilities, and equity.
- **People**: full-time and part-time employees, volunteers per week, and volunteer hours per week.

### Filters

- **Registration status**: registered (default), deregistered, or all.
- **Registration numbers** and **Name contains**.
- **Sectors**, **Activities**, **Beneficiaries**, **Cities**.
- **Minimum / maximum total gross income** and **Minimum full-time employees**.
- **Latest return from year**: some charities now report only as part of a group, so their own latest return can be years old. Set this, for example to 2024, to keep only charities with recent figures.

### Pricing

Pay per event: one `charity` event per record saved. Reading the register costs you nothing. Set a maximum total charge and the Actor stops cleanly when it is reached. A full export takes a few minutes.

### Data, licence, and privacy

Data comes from the Charities Services open data service and is licensed under **Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 New Zealand**. Credit "Charities Services, Department of Internal Affairs" when you republish it. Each run reads the live register.

The Actor only requests organization-level fields. It never requests officers, the certifying officer, or auditor names.
