## Pricing

from $3.00 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## GitHub Repository & User Search (Official API)

Search GitHub repositories and users/organizations through the **official GitHub REST API** and get clean, structured rows: topics, stars, forks, primary language, license, last push date and the public organization profile.

**Works without a token.** Add your own GitHub token (optional, stored as a secret) for higher rate limits.

### What you get

**Repositories mode** — one row per repository:
`fullName`, `htmlUrl`, `description`, `homepage`, `language`, `topics`, `stars`, `forks`, `openIssues`, `license`, `isFork`, `isArchived`, `createdAt`, `updatedAt`, `pushedAt`, `ownerLogin`, `ownerType`, and for organization-owned repos an `organization` object (name, description, website, location, verified flag, public repo count, followers).

**Users & organizations mode** — one row per account:
`login`, `accountType`, `htmlUrl`, `avatarUrl`, and for organizations the same `organization` profile object.

### Privacy by design

- **No email addresses are collected** — not from profiles, not from commits, not from organizations.
- For individual users only public account identifiers (login, profile URL, avatar) are returned; names, bios and locations of individuals are not fetched.
- GitHub's Acceptable Use Policies forbid using GitHub data for spam, unsolicited email, or selling personal information (for example to recruiters). Do not use this Actor for those purposes.

### Example queries

GitHub search syntax is supported as-is:

| Goal | Mode | Query | Sort |
|---|---|---|---|
| Popular scraping projects | repositories | `topic:web-scraping stars:>500` | stars |
| Active Python LLM repos | repositories | `topic:llm language:python pushed:>2026-01-01` | updated |
| Repos of one organization | repositories | `org:apify` | stars |
| Japanese organizations | users | `type:org location:japan` | followers |

### Rate limits

The Actor follows GitHub's published limits: search allows 10 requests/minute without a token and 30/minute with one, and other REST calls 60/hour without a token. The Actor paces search pages, reads the `x-ratelimit-*` headers, waits when the reset is near, and otherwise stops cleanly with a warning in the `SUMMARY` record. GitHub returns at most 1,000 results per search query. Without a token, organization lookups are capped at 10 per run by default.

### Pricing

Pay per event: you pay per result row delivered to the dataset, plus a small Actor start event.

### FAQ

**Do I need a GitHub token?** No. The default input runs anonymously. A fine-grained token with no extra permissions is enough to raise limits.

**Can it get emails of developers?** No, by design.

**Is this scraping?** No — it only uses `api.github.com` endpoints documented by GitHub.

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

Search repositories, or users/organizations.

## `query` (type: `string`):

GitHub search syntax, e.g. `topic:llm language:python stars:>100 pushed:>2026-01-01` or for users `type:org location:japan`.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Sort option supported by GitHub for the chosen mode.

## `order` (type: `string`):

Used only when Sort by is set.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

GitHub search returns at most 1,000 results per query.

## `enrichOrganizations` (type: `boolean`):

For organization-owned repos or organization accounts, fetch the public org profile (name, description, website, location, verified, repo count).

## `maxOrgLookups` (type: `integer`):

Caps extra API calls. Defaults to 10 without a token and 50 with a token.

## `githubToken` (type: `string`):

Optional personal access token (no scopes needed for public data). Raises GitHub's rate limits. Stored encrypted.

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "query": "topic:web-scraping stars:>500"
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("taroyamada/github-repo-user-search").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
The hosted server signs you in with OAuth on first connect, so no API token belongs in this config. Clients without OAuth support can send an `Authorization: Bearer <APIFY_API_TOKEN>` header instead, using a token from API & Integrations in Apify Console (https://console.apify.com/settings/integrations).
