## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Shopify App Store Rank Tracker

See where any Shopify app ranks in **App Store keyword search** and **category pages** — and how that changed since your last run. Click **Start** with the default input (1 keyword, 1 tracked app) and you get one row with that app's rank in under a minute — replace the keyword and app handle with your own. Turn off **Save only tracked apps** to get the full ranked list.

### What you get

One row per app per keyword (or category):

- `position` — organic rank across all scanned pages (1 = top)
- `previousPosition` / `positionDelta` — rank in your previous run and the change (positive = moved up)
- `appName`, `appHandle`, `appUrl`, `tagline`
- `rating`, `reviewCount`, `pricingSummary` (e.g. "Free plan available"), `builtForShopify`
- `isAd`, `isTrackedApp`, `page`, `positionOnPage`, `sourceUrl`, `scrapedAt`

If you list apps under **Apps to track** and one of them is not found in the scanned pages, you still get a row with `notRankedInScannedPages: true`, so drops off the list are visible.

### Use cases

- **App developers:** track your app's rank for the keywords your listing targets, every day, with a schedule.
- **Competitor research:** see who sits above you, their rating, review count and Built for Shopify status.
- **Agencies and investors:** snapshot a category to find rising apps.

### Input

| Field | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| `keywords` | `["po box blocker"]` | App Store search terms |
| `categoryHandles` | `[]` | e.g. `store-design-search-and-navigation` or a full category URL |
| `appHandles` | `["address-guard"]` | apps to flag, e.g. `address-guard` |
| `onlyTrackedApps` | `true` | save only rows for tracked apps (cheaper); turn off to get the full ranked list |
| `maxPages` | `1` | up to 24 apps per page, max 10 pages |
| `compareWithPreviousRun` | `true` | fills `previousPosition` / `positionDelta` |

Example:

```json
{
  "keywords": ["po box blocker", "address validation"],
  "categoryHandles": ["store-design-search-and-navigation"],
  "appHandles": ["address-guard"],
  "maxPages": 2
}
```

### Sample output

From a real run with the default input on 2026-10-13 (first 3 rows of each keyword):

| query | position | appName | rating | reviewCount | pricingSummary | Built for Shopify |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| po box blocker | 1 | Ultimate PO Box Blocker + | 5 | 8 | Free trial available | yes |
| po box blocker | 2 | PO Box Blocker by Rondeletia | 4.5 | 13 | Free trial available | no |
| po box blocker | 3 | NoBox: PO Box Blocker | 5 | 1 | Free trial available | no |
| reviews | 1 | Judge.me Product Reviews App | 5 | 48404 | Free plan available | yes |
| reviews | 2 | Loox ‑ Product Reviews App | 4.9 | 9848 | Free plan available | yes |
| reviews | 3 | REVIEWS.io Product Reviews App | 4.7 | 773 | Free plan available | no |

One full row:

```json
{
  "surface": "keyword",
  "query": "po box blocker",
  "position": 7,
  "page": 1,
  "positionOnPage": 7,
  "isAd": false,
  "appHandle": "address-guard",
  "appName": "PO Box Blocker — AddressFence",
  "appUrl": "https://apps.shopify.com/address-guard",
  "tagline": "Billing-address rules, street-number checks & a simulator",
  "rating": null,
  "reviewCount": null,
  "pricingSummary": "Free plan available",
  "builtForShopify": false,
  "isTrackedApp": true,
  "previousPosition": 7,
  "positionDelta": 0,
  "iconUrl": "https://cdn.shopify.com/app-store/listing_images/27f7c111c94acf4b22bfef9207351043/icon/CISg3YSo4pQDEAE=.png",
  "sourceUrl": "https://apps.shopify.com/search?page=1&q=po+box+blocker",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-13T05:08:45.550Z"
}
```

`previousPosition` is `null` on the first run and filled from the second run on.

### Tips

- Schedule the Actor daily (Apify Schedules) to build a rank history; export the dataset to Google Sheets or CSV.
- Use `onlyTrackedApps` with several keywords to watch just your own apps at low cost.
- Results reflect what an anonymous visitor in the US sees; personalised or ad placements may differ.

### Pricing

Pay per event: you are charged per saved dataset row (one app on one keyword or category). The default input saves 48 rows.

### FAQ

**Does it need a login or API key?** No. It reads the public App Store pages.

**Why is `isAd` false everywhere?** Sponsored slots are often not shown to anonymous visitors; when they appear they are flagged and get no organic `position`.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

App Store search terms to check, e.g. "po box blocker".

## `categoryHandles` (type: `array`):

Optional. Category handle (e.g. orders-and-shipping-shipping-solutions-address-validation) or full category URL.

## `appHandles` (type: `array`):

Optional. App handles or URLs you care about (e.g. address-guard). They are flagged in the output, and you get a 'not ranked' row if they are not found.

## `onlyTrackedApps` (type: `boolean`):

If on, only rows for 'Apps to track' are saved (cheaper). Needs at least one tracked app.

## `maxPages` (type: `integer`):

Each page has up to 24 apps.

## `compareWithPreviousRun` (type: `boolean`):

Fills previousPosition and positionDelta from your last run.
