## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Coles Scraper gets **product and price data from Coles Australia** (coles.com.au): **current price, was price and savings, specials and multibuy offers** (e.g. *Pick any 2 for $12*), **unit price** (e.g. $2.45 / 100g), stock and availability, brand, size, category and aisle, image and product link. Search by **keyword**, paste **category** or **on-special** links, or grab **all specials**. Sort by price or unit price. No login, no API key.

### What you get

- Search any term (e.g. tim tam, milk, coffee) or scrape categories (coles.com.au/browse/...) and specials pages (coles.com.au/on-special/...).
- Price, was price, savings, special type and the offer text Coles shows (e.g. save $1.80, Pick any 2 for $12), with the multibuy quantity and total.
- Unit price for like-for-like comparisons.
- Availability (in store and online), stock quantity and purchase limit.
- Brand, product name, size, category, aisle and department, image and product link.
- Specials-only mode, all-specials mode, and sorting by relevance, price, unit price or name. Sponsored tiles and banners are skipped by default.
- Built for Coles's bot protection: every page is fetched from a fresh IP with automatic retries, so long runs keep going.

### How to use Coles Scraper

1. Add **Search terms** (e.g. `tim tam`) and/or **Coles URLs** (a category like `https://www.coles.com.au/browse/pantry` or `https://www.coles.com.au/on-special/pantry`), or tick **All specials**.
2. Optionally tick **Specials only** and choose **Sort by**.
3. Set **Max products per search or URL**.
4. Run and export to JSON, CSV or Excel, or schedule it to track prices every day.

### Use cases

- Grocery price tracking and comparison sites (pair with our Woolworths Scraper).
- FMCG brands and analysts: monitor shelf prices, specials and multibuy deals.
- Weekly specials alerts, newsletters and deal bots.
- Inflation and cost-of-living research with unit prices.
- AI agents and apps that need live Australian grocery prices.

### How much does Coles Scraper cost?

This Actor uses **pay-per-event** pricing: **$0.001 per product** ($1 per 1,000). Platform usage is included. There is no start fee. Sponsored tiles, banners, duplicates and searches with no results are not charged.

Set **Maximum cost per run** in the run options to cap your spend; the Actor stops when the limit is reached.

### Use Coles Scraper with AI agents (MCP)

Give Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client this Actor as a tool through the hosted [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com):

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http apify "https://mcp.apify.com/?tools=technicaldost/coles-scraper-products-prices-specials" --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN"
```

Or in a JSON MCP config:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "apify": {
      "url": "https://mcp.apify.com/?tools=technicaldost/coles-scraper-products-prices-specials",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}
```

The tool is named `technicaldost--coles-scraper-products-prices-specials`. Ask your agent, for example, to *"run Coles Scraper with {"searchTerms": \["tim tam", "coffee"], "startUrls": \["https://www.coles.com.au/on-special/drinks"], "specialsOnly": true, "sortBy": "unitPriceLow", "maxProductsPerSearch": 200}"*.

### FAQ

#### Which store's prices are these?

The default online prices coles.com.au shows to a visitor who has not chosen a store. Prices are in AUD.

#### Why do some products have no was price but are on special?

Multibuy deals (e.g. Pick any 2 for $12) keep the shelf price; the deal is in `offer`, `multiBuyMinQuantity` and `multiBuyTotalPrice`.

#### Does it include barcodes?

No. Coles does not show barcodes in its listings. Use `productId`, `name` and `size` to match products, or our Woolworths Scraper, which includes barcodes.

#### Are sponsored products included?

No, sponsored tiles and banners are skipped and not charged unless you turn on **Include sponsored products**.

#### How is it priced?

$1 per 1,000 products. No start fee, and nothing is charged when a search finds no products.

#### Is it legal to scrape this data?

The Actor collects publicly available information only and does not log in or bypass access controls. Use the data in line with the website's terms and the laws that apply to you, especially when processing personal data.
