## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## USCG CGMIX Approved Equipment Scraper

Scrapes the US Coast Guard's CGMIX Approved Equipment database — approval, manufacturer, and
status details for equipment certified for use on commercial vessels and recreational boats.
Pulls directly from the official `EquipmentData` XML web service (the same data source behind
the public https://cgmix.uscg.mil/Equipment search UI), so results are structured and
authoritative rather than scraped HTML.

### Use cases

1. **Marine equipment manufacturers/distributors** — monitor competitor approval filings, check
status and expiration dates for products in a category (life rafts, immersion suits, EPIRBs,
   fire suppression, etc.).
2. **Vessel operators and compliance consultants** — verify a piece of equipment is currently
USCG-approved (not expired/superseded) before purchase or inspection.
3. **Procurement researchers** — build a filtered export of approved equipment by manufacturer or
keyword for sourcing or compliance audits, instead of paging through the ASP.NET search form
   by hand.

### Input

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `manufacturerName` | string | Filter by manufacturer/organization name (partial match) |
| `keyWord` | string | Filter by keyword against the equipment description |
| `maxItems` | integer | Max equipment records to return (default 100) |
| `delaySeconds` | number | Delay before each detail-fetch request (default 1.0s) |
| `concurrency` | integer | Detail-fetch requests in flight at once (default 5) |

Set at least one of `manufacturerName`/`keyWord` — an unfiltered search returns hundreds of
records from a single summary call.

### Output fields

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `approvedEquipmentId` | Unique CGMIX equipment ID |
| `manufacturingPartyId` | Unique CGMIX manufacturer ID |
| `organizationName` | Manufacturer/organization name |
| `approvalSeriesId` | Approval series unique ID |
| `formattedSeriesNumber` | Full approval series number (e.g. `160.010/101/0`) |
| `seriesNumber` / `subSeriesNumber` / `sequenceNumber` / `modificationCount` | Approval number components |
| `statusLookupName` | Equipment status (e.g. `APPROVED`, `FORMER-MAY USE`) |
| `shortDescription` / `longDescription` | Equipment description |
| `identifyingData` | Identifying data (schedule/drawing numbers) |
| `longRemarks` | Detail remarks (production tests, supersession notes) |
| `effectiveDtTm` / `expirationDtTm` | Approval effective/expiration dates |
| `mutualRecognitionAgreement` | Mutual Recognition Agreement description/flag |
| `manufacturerFirstStreet` / `manufacturerCity` / `manufacturerStateAbbr` / `manufacturerProvince` / `manufacturerPostalCode` / `manufacturerCountry` | Manufacturer address |
| `approvalSeriesDescription` | Approval series description |
| `sourceUrl` | Public UI equivalent of this data |

# Actor input Schema

## `manufacturerName` (type: `string`):

Filter by manufacturer/organization name (partial match). Leave both this and Keyword blank only for small test runs — an unfiltered search returns hundreds of records.
