## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Canada Government Tenders & Contract Awards Scraper (CanadaBuys) by TenderFeed

Find **Canadian federal government tenders and contract awards** from **CanadaBuys**, the Government of Canada's official procurement service (Public Services and Procurement Canada, Shared Services Canada, National Defence, RCMP, Defence Construction Canada and every other federal buyer). Filter by **keyword, UNSPSC or GSIN code, category, region, buyer, notice type, publication and closing date, supplier and contract value**. You get clean JSON, CSV or Excel with **buyer, closing date, regions of delivery, trade agreements, solicitation number, bid-document links** and, for awards, **the winning supplier and contract value**.

Built by **TenderFeed** ([apify.com/tenderfeed](https://apify.com/tenderfeed)) on the official **CanadaBuys open data** files (Open Government Licence – Canada). No API key, no login, no browser.

### What can you do with it?

- **Daily bid alerts** for your sales team: new federal RFPs, standing offers and supply arrangements that match your keywords or UNSPSC codes, sent to Slack, email or Google Sheets.
- **Competitor tracking**: see which contracts your competitors won, with values and end dates (good for planning re-bids).
- **Market research**: who buys what, where and through which trade agreements.
- **AI agents**: call it as an **MCP tool** and ask *"Which open IT services tenders close in the next 30 days?"*

### Datasets

| `dataset` | What you get | Speed |
|---|---|---|
| `open` (default) | Every currently open tender notice (about 900 on 2026-10-29) | ~5 s |
| `new` | Notices published in the last day | ~3 s |
| `tenders` | All tender notices published in your date window, including expired and cancelled ones | ~10 s per fiscal year |
| `awards` | Contract award notices published in your date window | ~10–20 s per fiscal year |

Amended notices are merged: you get the latest amendment of each notice.

### Input example

```json
{
  "dataset": "open",
  "keywords": ["software", "cloud"],
  "unspscCodes": ["4323", "8111"],
  "categories": ["SRV"],
  "regions": ["Ontario", "National Capital Region"],
  "onlyOpen": true,
  "closingFrom": "7 days",
  "maxResults": 100
}
```

Track a competitor's wins:

```json
{ "dataset": "awards", "publishedFrom": "2026-04-01", "suppliers": ["IBM"], "minValue": 100000 }
```

### Output example

Real row from a live run on 2026-10-29 (some fields shortened):

```json
{
  "source": "canadabuys",
  "sourceId": "cb-947-33600596",
  "url": "https://canadabuys.canada.ca/en/tender-opportunities/tender-notice/cb-947-33600596",
  "title": "Physical Security Systems Maintenance and Support Services for Shared Services Canada (SSC)",
  "noticeType": "Request for Proposal",
  "status": "Open",
  "procedureType": "Competitive - Open bidding",
  "contractType": "services",
  "buyerName": "Shared Services Canada (SSC)",
  "buyerCountry": "CA",
  "buyerCity": "Ottawa",
  "otherClassificationCodes": ["UNSPSC:46171622"],
  "unspscDescriptions": ["Closed circuit television CCTV system"],
  "placeOfPerformance": "Toronto, Halifax, National Capital Region (NCR), Vancouver, Winnipeg, ...",
  "publishedAt": "2026-10-27",
  "deadlineAt": "2026-12-07T14:00:00",
  "solicitationNumber": "R000215069",
  "tradeAgreements": ["Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)", "Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA)", "..."]
}
```

Other fields: `description` (full notice text), `documentsUrl` and `attachments` (bid documents), `submissionUrl` (MERX / SAP Ariba link when the notice has one), `regionsOfDelivery`, `regionsOfOpportunity`, `buyerProvince`, `endUserEntities`, `gsinCodes`, `selectionCriteria`, `limitedTenderingReason`, `expectedContractStart` and `expectedContractEnd`. Award rows add `awardees`, `awardedValue`, `currency`, `contractNumber`, `contractAwardDate`, `contractStart`, `contractEnd`, `supplierCity`, `supplierProvince` and `instrumentType`.

#### Field coverage (live test, 2026-10-29)

100 open tenders: description 99, closing date 100, UNSPSC 96, regions 92, bid documents link 87, contact email 100 (with `includeBuyerContacts`). 100 recent awards: supplier 100, UNSPSC 99, contract end date 99, value 74 (CanadaBuys publishes 0 for some awards).

The data follows the same normalized schema as our other TenderFeed Actors ([EU TED](https://apify.com/tenderfeed/ted-eu-tenders), [SAM.gov](https://apify.com/tenderfeed/sam-gov-opportunities), [UK](https://apify.com/tenderfeed/uk-tenders), [Grants.gov](https://apify.com/tenderfeed/grants-gov-us), [USAspending](https://apify.com/tenderfeed/usaspending-contract-awards)), so several countries land in one table.

### Contacts (`includeBuyerContacts`)

Off by default (privacy-friendly): the contracting officer's name, email and phone are removed, and emails inside descriptions are masked. Turn it on to get them; CanadaBuys publishes a named contact for most notices.

### Daily alerts ("only new" monitoring mode)

Turn on `onlyNew`, set a `monitoringId` (for example `"it-services-ontario"`) and schedule the Actor daily. Each run returns, and charges for, only notices you have not received yet. In our test, a second identical run skipped all 5 notices delivered by the first and returned 5 different ones.

### Sample output (real run)

One row from a run on 6 November 2026 (core columns only; every row also has description, status, procedureType, documentsUrl and more). Contact values are masked here. Since schema 1.2 every row also carries the cross-source columns `country`, `deadline`, `valueAmount`, `valueCurrency` and `cpvOrNaics` next to the original ones (`buyerCountry`, `deadlineAt`, `estimatedValue`, `currency`, `cpvCodes`/`naicsCodes`), which are unchanged.

```json
{
  "title": "Air Space Study - Project Management Services",
  "source": "canadabuys",
  "country": "CA",
  "noticeType": "RFP against Supply Arrangement",
  "publishedAt": "2026-11-05",
  "deadline": "2026-11-26T14:00:00",
  "buyerName": "Department of National Defence (DND)",
  "valueAmount": null,
  "valueCurrency": null,
  "cpvOrNaics": null,
  "setAside": null,
  "url": "https://canadabuys.canada.ca/en/tender-opportunities/tender-notice/cb-413-66885250",
  "buyerContactName": null,
  "buyerContactEmail": null,
  "buyerContactPhone": null
}
```

### Limits and notes

- **Data source:** CanadaBuys open data CSV files.
- **Access:** No login or API key.
- **Delays and gaps:** CanadaBuys regenerates the open-data files on its own schedule (not real time). Estimated value is often absent on open tenders.
- **Contacts:** No buyer contact persons are extracted.
- Fields the portal does not publish stay `null`; nothing is guessed or filled in.

### Pricing

Pay per result: you pay only for the notices saved to the dataset (see the price on this page), plus Apify's small run-start fee. The default run (100 open tenders) takes about 5 seconds.

# Actor input Schema

## `dataset` (type: `string`):

Open tenders is the fastest and best for bid alerts. 'All tender notices' and 'Contract award notices' read the CanadaBuys yearly files for the publication window below (default: last 30 days).

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Words or phrases matched in the title, description and UNSPSC/GSIN descriptions (word-start match, so 'cloud' also matches 'cloud-based'). Leave empty for everything.

## `keywordMode` (type: `string`):

Match notices containing ANY or ALL of the keywords.

## `publishedFrom` (type: `string`):

YYYY-MM-DD or relative (e.g. "7 days"). Default: no limit for open/new tenders, last 30 days for 'All tender notices' and awards. Yearly files start in fiscal year 2022-2023.

## `publishedTo` (type: `string`):

YYYY-MM-DD. Default: today.

## `onlyOpen` (type: `boolean`):

Skip tenders whose closing date has passed (some 'open' notices are standing lists with old closing dates).

## `closingFrom` (type: `string`):

Only tenders closing on or after this date (YYYY-MM-DD).

## `closingTo` (type: `string`):

Only tenders closing on or before this date (YYYY-MM-DD).

## `categories` (type: `array`):

Leave empty for all categories.

## `unspscCodes` (type: `array`):

UNSPSC codes or prefixes, e.g. 4323 (software), 8111 (computer services), 72 (building and construction services).

## `gsinCodes` (type: `array`):

Goods and Services Identification Numbers or prefixes, e.g. D302 (IT systems development), N70 (IT equipment).

## `regions` (type: `array`):

Region of delivery or opportunity (text match), e.g. Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, National Capital Region, Canada.

## `buyers` (type: `array`):

Text match on the department or agency name, e.g. Public Services and Procurement Canada, Department of National Defence, Shared Services Canada.

## `noticeTypes` (type: `array`):

Text match, e.g. Request for Proposal, Request for Standing Offer, Request for Supply Arrangement, Request for Information, Advance Contract Award Notice.

## `suppliers` (type: `array`):

Track competitors: text match on the winning supplier's legal name.

## `minValue` (type: `integer`):

Award value filter (total contract value, else contract amount), usually in CAD.

## `maxValue` (type: `integer`):

Award value upper bound.

## `includeUnknownValue` (type: `boolean`):

When a value filter is set, keep awards whose value is missing or 0.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Language of titles, descriptions and notice links (falls back to the other language when empty).

## `includeBuyerContacts` (type: `boolean`):

Off by default (privacy-friendly): person-level contact data is removed and emails in descriptions are masked. Turn on to get the contracting officer's name, email and phone.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of notices to save (newest first). 0 = no limit.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Remember what earlier runs delivered and return (and charge for) only notices you have not received yet. Ideal for scheduled daily alerts.

## `monitoringId` (type: `string`):

Name of the watch-list memory used by 'Only new'. Use a different ID per saved search/schedule.

## `includeRawData` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the original CSV row (non-empty columns) under `raw`.
