## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## US Federal Grants Scraper (Grants.gov API, No Key) by TenderFeed

Find **US federal grant opportunities** from **Grants.gov**, the official listing for every federal discretionary grant and cooperative agreement (NIH, NSF, DOE, USDA, ED, DOJ, EPA, State, DoD and 20+ more agencies). Filter by **keyword, agency, funding category, applicant eligibility, funding instrument, Assistance Listing (CFDA) number, posted date, deadline and award size**. You get clean JSON, CSV or Excel with **award ceiling and floor, expected number of awards, eligibility, cost sharing, grantor contact, attachments and the full synopsis**.

Built by **TenderFeed** ([tenderfeedhq.com](https://tenderfeedhq.com)) on the official, key-free **Grants.gov REST API** (`search2` + `fetchOpportunity`). No API key, no login, no browser.

### What can you do with it?

- **Daily grant alerts** for your nonprofit, university, city, tribe or startup, sent to Slack, email or Google Sheets.
- **Grant-writing and consulting firms**: build a pipeline of open and *forecasted* opportunities for each client's eligibility type.
- **SBIR/STTR and research funding**: track NSF, DOE, NIH and DoD announcements for small businesses.
- **Market research**: count funding by agency, category and award size.
- **AI agents**: call it as an **MCP tool** and ask *"Which open health grants for nonprofits close in the next 60 days?"*

### Why TenderFeed?

- **Full details, not just the search list**: award ceiling and floor, expected awards, eligibility text, cost sharing, attachments, contact and synopsis come from one detail call per opportunity.
- **Precise keyword search**: Grants.gov's own search is full-text and also matches attachments (in our test, `broadband` + `digital equity` returned 22 opportunities, and only 2 were actually about broadband). With `strictKeywordMatch` on (the default), the keyword must appear in the title or synopsis. Multi-word keywords are sent as exact phrases.
- **Forecasts included**: get forecasted opportunities, with their estimated post and close dates, before they open.
- **Same schema as our tender Actors** ([SAM.gov](../sam-gov-opportunities), [EU TED](../ted-eu-tenders), [UK](../uk-tenders), [USAspending awards](../usaspending-contract-awards)), so grants and contracts land in one table.

### Input example

```json
{
  "keywords": ["artificial intelligence"],
  "statuses": ["posted", "forecasted"],
  "fundingCategories": ["HL", "ST"],
  "eligibilities": ["12", "20"],
  "agencies": ["HHS", "NSF"],
  "postedFrom": "30 days",
  "closingBefore": "2027-03-31",
  "minAwardCeiling": 250000,
  "onlyOpen": true,
  "maxResults": 200
}
```

- `agencies` match by agency-code prefix: `HHS` covers every HHS sub-agency (HHS-NIH11, HHS-CDC...), and `DOD` covers all of DoD.
- `eligibilities` use Grants.gov codes, for example `12` (501(c)(3) nonprofits), `20` (private universities), `23` (small businesses), `00` (state governments) and `07` (federally recognized tribes). The input form lists every code with its name.
- `assistanceListings` takes CFDA numbers, for example `93.855`.

### Output example

Real row from a live run on 2026-10-29 (shortened lists):

```json
{
  "source": "grants-gov",
  "sourceId": "361318",
  "url": "https://www.grants.gov/search-results-detail/361318",
  "title": "NLM Institutional Grants for Research Training in Biomedical Informatics, Data Science, and AI (T15 Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed)",
  "noticeType": "synopsis",
  "buyerName": "Department of Health and Human Services / National Institutes of Health",
  "buyerCountry": "US",
  "buyerContactName": "NLM Extramural Programs",
  "buyerContactEmail": "NLMProgram@nih.gov",
  "otherClassificationCodes": ["93.121", "93.173", "93.879"],
  "publishedAt": "2026-10-16",
  "deadlineAt": "2027-02-11",
  "estimatedValue": 17100000.0,
  "currency": "USD",
  "opportunityNumber": "RFA-LM-28-001",
  "agencyCode": "HHS-NIH11",
  "assistanceListings": [{"number": "93.879", "title": "Medical Library Assistance"}],
  "fundingInstruments": ["Grant"],
  "fundingCategories": ["Health"],
  "eligibleApplicants": ["Private institutions of higher education", "Small businesses", "State governments"],
  "awardCeiling": 775000.0,
  "expectedNumberOfAwards": 25,
  "costSharing": false,
  "attachments": [{"fileName": "RFA-LM-28-001-Full-Announcement.html", "url": "https://apply07.grants.gov/grantsws/rest/opportunity/att/download/355288"}]
}
```

`estimatedValue` is the total program funding and `awardCeiling` is the maximum per award. Other fields: `description` (synopsis as plain text), `eligibilityDetails`, `closeDateExplanation`, `archiveDate`, `fiscalYear`, `estimatedPostDate`, `estimatedCloseDate` (forecasts), `additionalInfoUrl`, `buyerContactPhone` and `buyerContactDetails`.

#### Field coverage (live test, 50 open AI-related opportunities)

Description, contact name and phone: 50/50. Contact email: 49/50. Deadline: 46/50 (rolling programs have none). Attachments: 45/50. Award ceiling: 43/50. Total funding: 36/50.

### Contacts (`includeBuyerContacts`)

On by default: grantor contacts on Grants.gov are published federal program contacts, and most are shared mailboxes. Set it to `false` to drop the contact name, email and phone. Emails inside the synopsis are then masked too, but the agency fields stay.

### Daily alerts ("only new" monitoring mode)

Turn on `onlyNew` and set a `monitoringId` (for example `"health-nonprofit-daily"`), then schedule the Actor daily. Each run returns, and charges for, only opportunities you have not received yet. In our test, two back-to-back runs of the same search with `maxResults: 30` returned 30 different opportunities each, with zero overlap.

### Pricing

**Pay per result: $3.00 per 1,000 grant opportunities** ($0.003 per row), plus Apify's small run-start fee. Every row includes the full detail record. A daily alert with 10 new grants costs about **$0.90 a month**.

### Use it as an MCP tool for AI agents

Add the Apify MCP server (`https://mcp.apify.com`) to Claude Desktop, Cursor or any MCP client and enable this Actor. Your agent can then answer questions like *"List forecasted NSF grants for small businesses"*.

### FAQ

**Is this official data?** Yes. It comes from the Grants.gov public API run by HHS for the US government. Federal grant listings are public information.

**How many opportunities are there?** On 2026-10-29, Grants.gov listed 877 posted opportunities, plus forecasts. The Actor fetches details for 4 opportunities at a time, and each detail call took 0.2–0.6 s in our tests.

**Does it include closed or archived grants?** Set `statuses` to include `closed` or `archived` and turn off `onlyOpen`.

**Something missing?** Open an issue on the Actor page. TenderFeed answers within one business day.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Full-text search terms, e.g. \["broadband", "rural health"]. Leave empty to list every opportunity.

## `keywordMode` (type: `string`):

ANY keyword (Grants.gov full-text search) or ALL keywords (also checked in title + description).

## `strictKeywordMatch` (type: `boolean`):

Grants.gov keyword search is full-text and also matches attachments and boilerplate (e.g. 'broadband' returns many unrelated programs). When on, only opportunities whose title or synopsis contains your keyword(s) are kept. Turn off to get everything Grants.gov returns. Synopsis text requires 'Fetch full details'.

## `statuses` (type: `array`):

forecasted = announced but not yet open, posted = open for applications, closed / archived = past opportunities.

## `agencies` (type: `array`):

Grants.gov agency codes. A top-level code includes its sub-agencies: HHS = all of HHS (NIH, CDC, HRSA...), HHS-NIH11 = NIH only. Examples: NSF, DOE, USDA, DOD, ED, EPA, NASA, DOJ = USDOJ.

## `fundingCategories` (type: `array`):

Category of funding activity.

## `eligibilities` (type: `array`):

Keep opportunities open to at least one of these applicant types.

## `fundingInstruments` (type: `array`):

Grant, cooperative agreement, procurement contract or other.

## `assistanceListings` (type: `array`):

e.g. \["93.530", "47.075"].

## `postedFrom` (type: `string`):

YYYY-MM-DD or relative (e.g. "7 days"). Leave empty for every currently listed opportunity.

## `postedTo` (type: `string`):

YYYY-MM-DD. Leave empty for today.

## `onlyOpen` (type: `boolean`):

Drop opportunities whose close date is in the past (opportunities without a close date are kept).

## `closingBefore` (type: `string`):

Only opportunities with a close date on or before this date, e.g. to find deadlines in the next 30 days.

## `minAwardCeiling` (type: `integer`):

Largest single award must be at least this amount. Needs 'Fetch full details'.

## `maxAwardCeiling` (type: `integer`):

Needs 'Fetch full details'.

## `includeUnknownValue` (type: `boolean`):

Keep them when an award ceiling filter is set?

## `fetchDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Adds description, award ceiling/floor, total funding, number of awards, eligibility, cost sharing, contact and attachment links (one extra API call per opportunity).

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of opportunities to save. 0 = no limit.

## `includeBuyerContacts` (type: `boolean`):

Include the grants officer's name, email and phone published on Grants.gov (buyerContactName/Email/Phone). On by default: US federal points of contact are public data. Turn off to keep only agency-level info.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Remember what earlier runs delivered and return (and charge for) only opportunities you have not received yet. Ideal for scheduled daily grant alerts.

## `monitoringId` (type: `string`):

Name of the watch-list memory used by 'Only new'. Use a different ID per saved search/schedule.

## `includeRawData` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the original search hit and detail record under `raw`.
