## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## CanadaBuys Tenders Scraper (Canada Government Bids)

Get Canadian federal government tenders and contract awards from **CanadaBuys**, the Government of Canada's official procurement service, as one clean table. Filter by keyword, UNSPSC or GSIN code, buyer, region and date, and export to Excel, CSV, JSON, Google Sheets or your CRM.

Every department buys through CanadaBuys: Public Services and Procurement Canada, National Defence, Shared Services Canada, the RCMP, Parks Canada, the National Research Council and many more. This Actor reads the official open data files and gives you ready-to-use rows with links to each notice.

### What does CanadaBuys Tenders Scraper do?

- Downloads **all open tenders**, **today's new tenders**, **all tender notices this fiscal year** or **contract awards** (winner, value, date).
- Cleans and normalises the data: ISO dates, UNSPSC and GSIN codes as lists, English or French text, a link to every notice.
- Filters by keyword, category code, goods / services / construction, buyer, delivery region and publication date.
- **Alerts mode**: remembers what it already delivered and outputs only new notices next time.
- Uses only official open data published under the Open Government Licence - Canada. No login, no proxies, no browser.

### Who uses it?

- **Canadian and US suppliers** who want a daily list of new federal bids in their sector.
- **Bid consultants** tracking opportunities for several clients.
- **Sales teams** that use contract awards to find companies that just won government work.
- **Analysts and journalists** studying federal spending, buyers and suppliers.
- **Data teams and AI agents** that need a clean Canadian tender feed.

### How much does it cost?

**Pay per result: $5 per 1,000 notices** delivered, plus a tiny Apify start fee per run. No proxy or browser costs.

- All currently open federal tenders (about 900) cost about $4.50 in one run. Filtered searches cost much less.
- A daily alert usually returns 10 to 40 new notices, so it costs a few dollars a month.
- Apify's free plan includes monthly credit, enough to try the Actor many times.

### Alerts mode and integrations

Turn on **Only new since last run** with **What to get = New today** or **Open tenders**, then schedule the Actor every morning. It stores the IDs it already delivered in your own Apify account and outputs only new notices. Send results to Slack, email, Google Sheets, Airtable, HubSpot, Zapier, Make or a webhook.

### Other tender Actors with the same output format

- **UK Public Tenders Scraper**: Contracts Finder and Find a Tender.
- **EU TED Tenders Scraper**: all EU tenders and awards from Tenders Electronic Daily.

All of them output the same fields, so you can merge them into one sheet or database.

### FAQ

**Is this legal?**
Yes. Public Services and Procurement Canada publishes these files as open data under the Open Government Licence - Canada, which allows commercial reuse with attribution: "Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence - Canada."

**Does it include provincial and municipal tenders?**
It includes everything published on CanadaBuys: all federal departments and agencies, plus the provincial, municipal and broader public sector notices that are published there. Many provinces also run their own portals, which are not included.

**How fresh is the data?**
CanadaBuys updates the files every day. Each run downloads the latest version; the log shows when the file was last updated.

**Why is buyerContactEmail often empty?**
We only output organisation mailboxes (for example a procurement team inbox). Personal mailboxes and contact person names are removed on purpose, so the dataset contains no personal data.

**Why do some notice links open a CanadaBuys search page?**
About half of the notices have no direct link in the open data. For those, the link opens the CanadaBuys search with the notice's reference number.

**Something looks wrong?**
Open an issue on the Issues tab. An automatic self-check runs every day to detect changes in the files, and problems are usually fixed within a day.
