## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What does Website Traffic Checker do?

**Website Traffic Checker** estimates the **monthly Google search traffic** of any list of domains. For every domain it returns **estimated organic traffic** (visits from Google's organic results), **organic keywords** (how many keywords it ranks for in the top 100), **paid traffic** and **paid keywords** (Google Ads). Paste one domain or ten thousand: it checks them **in bulk, up to 1,000 domains per request**, and returns one flat row per domain.

Switch to **overview** mode to also get the **traffic value** in USD, how many keywords rank in the **top 1, top 3, top 10 and top 100**, and how many keywords are **new, lost, rising or falling**. It works as a fast **website traffic API** and **domain traffic estimate** tool for **94 countries**, with no Semrush, Ahrefs or Similarweb account needed.

**Important: these numbers are Google search traffic estimates, not total website visits.** They estimate the clicks a domain gets from Google search, based on its rankings, each keyword's search volume and the typical click-through rate per position. Direct, social, email, referral and other search engine traffic is not included. Every row carries a `trafficType` field that says so.

### Why use a bulk website traffic checker?

- 📊 **Lead qualification**: sort a list of prospects' websites by search traffic to find the companies that matter.
- 🔎 **Competitor research**: compare your Google traffic and keyword count with every competitor in one table.
- 🔗 **Link building and outreach**: filter out sites with no search traffic before you pitch them.
- 💼 **Domain investing and M\&A**: check how much search traffic and traffic value a domain or website earns.
- 🧩 **Agencies**: get a quick traffic estimate for hundreds of client or prospect domains at once.
- 🤖 **Automation and AI agents**: call it from the API, Make, Zapier, n8n or the Apify MCP server.

### What data does it return?

| Field | Example | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `domain` | `shopify.com` | The domain checked (protocol, `www` and path removed) |
| `organicTraffic` | `913920` | Estimated monthly visits from Google organic search |
| `organicKeywords` | `304920` | Keywords ranking in Google's top 100 |
| `paidTraffic` / `paidKeywords` | `629` / `31` | Estimated monthly Google Ads visits and paid keywords |
| `trafficValue` | `982100.16` | Overview: what the organic traffic would cost as Google Ads, USD per month |
| `top1` / `top3` / `top10` / `top100` | `3335` / `12615` | Overview: keywords ranking in each position range |
| `newKeywords` / `lostKeywords` / `upKeywords` / `downKeywords` | `38113` | Overview: keyword movement since the last update |
| `found` | `true` | `false` when the domain ranks for no Google keyword (free row) |
| `trafficType` | `Estimated monthly visits from Google search, not total website visits` | What the numbers measure |
| `location` / `language` | `United States` / `English` | Market of the data |

### How to check website traffic in bulk

1. Click **Try for free**.
2. Paste your domains or URLs into **Domains**, one per line.
3. Pick a **Country** and **Language** (default: United States, English).
4. Choose **basic** (traffic and keywords) or **overview** (adds traffic value, top 10 rankings and keyword movement).
5. Click **Start**. A thousand domains take a few seconds in basic mode.
6. Download the results as **CSV, Excel, JSON or HTML**, or read them through the API.

### How much does it cost?

- **Basic: $0.004 per domain with data ($4 per 1,000 domains)**, plus **$0.025 per run** (it covers the data provider's fixed fee per request, so send big lists in one run).
- **Overview: $0.04 per domain with data ($40 per 1,000 domains)**, plus the same $0.025 per run.
- **Domains with no data, invalid domains, duplicates and domains skipped for any reason are free.** Set a **maximum cost per run** and the Actor stops when it is used up; it never charges past it, and the domains it did not reach come back as free rows.

| Actor | Price per 1,000 domains | Metric |
|---|---|---|
| **This Actor** (Google organic + paid traffic, keywords, up to 1,000 domains per request) | **$4** | Google search traffic |
| memo23 Similarweb scraper | $0.99 | Similarweb total visits (a different metric) |
| kantolabs website-traffic-rank | $2 | Traffic rank |

Prices as listed on Apify Store in October 2026.

**Free Apify plan: 10 domains per run.** Every lookup costs us a data fee and free-plan runs earn nothing, so runs on the free Apify plan check **the first 10 domains** only; the rest come back as free rows without data. Any paid Apify plan gets every domain.

### Input

```json
{
    "domains": ["apify.com", "https://www.shopify.com/pricing", "hubspot.com"],
    "location": "United States",
    "language": "English",
    "detail": "basic"
}
```

- **domains**: bare domains or full URLs. The protocol, `www` and path are removed and duplicates are dropped. Subdomains such as `blog.hubspot.com` are checked on their own.
- **location**: one of 94 countries, as a name or 2-letter code (`US`, `GB`, `DE`).
- **language**: if the language has no data for that country, the country's main language is used and the log says so.
- **detail**: `basic` (default) or `overview`.

### Output example

```json
{
    "domain": "shopify.com",
    "found": true,
    "organicTraffic": 913920,
    "organicKeywords": 304920,
    "paidTraffic": 629,
    "paidKeywords": 31,
    "trafficType": "Estimated monthly visits from Google search, not total website visits",
    "location": "United States",
    "language": "English",
    "error": null
}
```

In overview mode a row also has `trafficValue`, `top1`, `top3`, `top10`, `top100`, `newKeywords`, `lostKeywords`, `upKeywords` and `downKeywords`.

You can download the dataset in various formats such as JSON, HTML, CSV, or Excel.

#### Use it from code

Python (`pip install "apify-client>=3"`):

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("<APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("tenfoldfleet/website-traffic-checker").call(run_input={
    "domains": ["apify.com", "shopify.com", "hubspot.com"],
    "location": "United States",
})
for row in client.dataset(run.default_dataset_id).iterate_items():
    print(row["domain"], row["organicTraffic"], row["organicKeywords"])
```

On apify-client 1.x or 2.x, `call()` returns a dict, so use `run["defaultDatasetId"]` instead.

### Tips

- **Send big lists in one run.** Basic mode checks 1,000 domains per request and the $0.025 run fee is paid once.
- **Use basic mode to screen, overview mode to dig in.** Check thousands of domains in basic mode, then run overview on the ones that matter.
- **Filter `found: true`** to keep only domains with data; the others cost nothing.
- **Pick the right country.** Traffic is per Google market: a UK news site gets far more traffic in the United Kingdom than in the United States.

### FAQ

#### Is this the same as total website visits?

No. It is an **estimate of monthly visits from Google search** in the country you pick. Tools such as Similarweb estimate total visits from all channels; this Actor measures search traffic only, which is what SEO and paid search teams usually compare.

#### Where does the data come from?

From the DataForSEO Labs Google database, which tracks millions of domains' Google rankings. Estimated traffic is the sum, over every ranking keyword, of the keyword's monthly search volume times the expected click-through rate of the domain's position.

#### Why did a domain return `found: false`?

The domain ranks for no keyword in Google's top 100 in that country, or it is too new or too small to be tracked. Those rows are **free**. Rows with an `error` text were skipped (invalid domain, max cost per run reached, free Apify plan, or the data source was unavailable) and are free too.

#### Why is `www.example.com` checked as `example.com`?

Most sites serve the same content on both, and Google traffic is reported for the root domain. Other subdomains (`blog.`, `shop.`) are kept as they are.

#### Can I use it in Make, Zapier, n8n or an AI agent?

Yes. It works with every Apify integration, the REST API and the Apify MCP server.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Websites to check, one per line. Bare domains (apify.com) or URLs (https://www.example.com/page): the protocol, www and path are removed and duplicates are dropped. Subdomains (blog.example.com) are checked as they are. Thousands per run are fine (sent 1,000 per request in basic mode).

## `location` (type: `string`):

Country whose Google search traffic you want. A country name or 2-letter code works ("United States", "US", "GB", "Germany"); 94 countries.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Search language, as a name or code ("English", "en", "de"). If the language has no data for the chosen country, the country's main language is used instead (for example Germany + English uses German). 21 countries support more than one language, for example United States English/Spanish, Canada English/French, Switzerland German/French/Italian, Belgium French/Dutch/German and India English/Hindi. English is also available in Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

## `detail` (type: `string`):

basic ($0.004 per domain): organic and paid Google search traffic and keyword counts, up to 1,000 domains per request. overview ($0.04 per domain): adds traffic value in USD, how many keywords rank in the top 1/3/10/100, and new, lost, rising and falling keywords.
