## Pricing

from $3.00 / 1,000 earthquakes

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Earthquake Alerts (USGS)

Earthquakes anywhere in the world as clean rows, straight from the official USGS earthquake catalog. Filter by magnitude, date, distance from a place, impact alert level, felt reports or tsunami flag, and schedule it to receive **only earthquakes you have not seen yet**.

**Who uses it:** insurers and reinsurers, property managers and REITs, utilities and pipeline operators, supply-chain and travel risk teams, newsrooms, researchers and alert apps.

### What you get

| Field | Example |
| --- | --- |
| time | 2026-11-04T00:20:00.000Z |
| magnitude, magnitudeType | 4.6, mb |
| place | 23 km SSW of Ridgecrest, CA |
| latitude, longitude, depthKm | 35.43, -117.73, 8.2 |
| alertLevel | green / yellow / orange / red (PAGER impact estimate), or empty |
| tsunamiFlag | true when a tsunami message was considered |
| feltReports, communityIntensity, maxIntensity | "Did You Feel It?" reports and shaking intensity |
| significance, status, network | USGS significance score, reviewed/automatic, source network |
| url | Event page on earthquake.usgs.gov |

### How to use it

1. Set a minimum magnitude (2.5 is a common choice; 4.5 for significant events worldwide).
2. Optional: a latitude, longitude and radius to watch one area.
3. Schedule it hourly with **Only earthquakes not delivered before** on, and connect email, Slack or a webhook.

### Cost

Priced per earthquake delivered. A run that finds nothing new delivers nothing.

### Notes

Data: the public USGS Earthquake Hazards Program API (earthquake.usgs.gov). US government work, free of copyright. Not affiliated with or endorsed by the USGS. Early magnitudes and locations are often revised; turn on **Treat revised events as new** to receive revisions.

# Actor input Schema

## `minMagnitude` (type: `string`):

For example 2.5, 4.5 or 6. Smaller numbers return many more events.

## `maxMagnitude` (type: `string`):

Largest magnitude to include. Leave empty for no upper limit.

## `latitude` (type: `string`):

With longitude and radius, only earthquakes near that place. Example 34.05.

## `longitude` (type: `string`):

Example -118.24.

## `radiusKm` (type: `string`):

Example 250.

## `daysBack` (type: `integer`):

How far back to look when no start date is set. On an hourly schedule, 1 is plenty.

## `dateFrom` (type: `string`):

YYYY-MM-DD.

## `dateTo` (type: `string`):

YYYY-MM-DD. Leave empty for up to now.

## `alertLevel` (type: `string`):

The USGS impact estimate. Most earthquakes have none; choosing a level returns only those at that level.

## `feltOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Only include earthquakes that people have reported feeling.

## `tsunamiOnly` (type: `boolean`):

The flag means a tsunami message was considered, not that a tsunami happened.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Turn on for scheduled runs. Skip earthquakes that were already delivered in a previous run, so each one is reported once.

## `includeUpdates` (type: `boolean`):

USGS revises magnitude and location after first reports. Turn on to receive each revision.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many earthquakes have been delivered in one run.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "minMagnitude": "2.5",
  "daysBack": 1,
  "alertLevel": "any",
  "feltOnly": false,
  "tsunamiOnly": false,
  "onlyNew": false,
  "includeUpdates": false,
  "maxResults": 500
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Every row delivered by this run, as a table you can download as CSV, Excel or JSON.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("texxupport/earthquake-alerts-usgs").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
