## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## OpenStreetMap Business & Places Finder

Find businesses and places in any city, county or radius, with address, phone, website, email and opening hours where OpenStreetMap mappers recorded them. A free, open-data alternative for local lead lists, market research and store-locator data.

**Who uses it:** agencies and freelancers building local lead lists, franchise and site-selection teams, delivery and field-service startups, researchers and civic projects.

### Categories

restaurant, cafe, bar, fast food, dentist, doctor, clinic, pharmacy, hospital, veterinarian, bank, gas station, car wash, car rental, car repair, car dealer, school, childcare, church, supermarket, convenience store, hairdresser, beauty, bakery, florist, hardware, clothes, furniture, electronics, phone shop, liquor store, pet shop, plumber, electrician, carpenter, hvac, roofer, painter, builder, lawyer, accountant, real estate, insurance, it company, gym, hotel.

Anything else: give an OpenStreetMap tag as `key=value`, for example `shop=bicycle` or `amenity=charging_station`.

### What you get

name, category, brand, street, city, state, postcode, country, phone, website, email, opening hours, Facebook, Instagram, cuisine, wheelchair access, latitude, longitude, a link to the map, and every raw OpenStreetMap tag.

### How to use it

1. List categories.
2. Enter a place name (`Austin, Texas`) or a latitude, longitude and radius.
3. Optional: only places with a phone, website or email.
4. Run it. For a monthly "newly mapped businesses" feed, turn on **Only places not delivered before** and schedule it.

### Good to know

- Coverage depends on volunteer mappers. Big cities are well mapped; contact details are less complete than on commercial directories.
- Very large areas (a whole state) can time out on the public Overpass server. Search city by city.
- The Actor uses the public Nominatim and Overpass services politely (one request a second, a clear User-Agent).

### License and attribution (please read)

The data is **© OpenStreetMap contributors** and available under the **Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0**. If you publish or share the data, credit "© OpenStreetMap contributors" and, if you share a database made from it, offer it under the ODbL too. Details: openstreetmap.org/copyright. This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by the OpenStreetMap Foundation.

### Cost

Priced per place delivered.

# Actor input Schema

## `categories` (type: `array`):

Plain names such as restaurant, cafe, bar, fast food, dentist, doctor, clinic, pharmacy, hospital, veterinarian, bank, gas station … (full list in the README), or OpenStreetMap tags written key=value, such as shop=bicycle.

## `location` (type: `string`):

For example Austin, Texas or Travis County, Texas. The whole area inside its boundary is searched.

## `latitude` (type: `string`):

Latitude of the search centre, for example 30.2672. Use it together with longitude when you do not give a place name.

## `longitude` (type: `string`):

Longitude of the search centre, for example -97.7431. Use it together with latitude.

## `radiusKm` (type: `string`):

Used with latitude and longitude, or when a place name resolves to a single point. 0.1 to 50.

## `namedOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Skip places that have no name in OpenStreetMap.

## `requireContact` (type: `boolean`):

Keep only places that list a phone number, a website or an email address.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Turn on for a schedule that reports newly mapped businesses.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many places have been delivered in one run.

}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `results` (type: `string`):
Every row delivered by this run, as a table you can download as CSV, Excel or JSON.
# API
You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.
## JavaScript example
```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';

// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',

// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "categories": [
        "plumber",

    "location": "Austin, Texas"
};

// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("texxupport/osm-business-places").call(input);

// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
