## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

- 🛒 **Special Buys tracker** - see this week's and next week's specials before they hit the shelves
- 📏 **Unit prices** ready for price comparison
- 🧹 Clean, flat output - export to Excel, CSV, JSON or Google Sheets, or call it from the API
- 🔁 Schedule it daily or weekly to build your own price history

### What you can use it for

### How to use it

1. Leave **Categories** empty to get the whole catalogue, or add category slugs / URLs, for example:
   - `pantry`
   - `dairy-eggs-fridge`
   - `pantry/confectionery`
   - `https://www.aldi.com.au/products/baby/k/1030000000`
2. Optional: tick **Only Special Buys** to get just the weekly specials.
3. Optional: set **Max products** to cap the run.
4. Click **Start**. Results appear in the **Output** tab.

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `price` | Current shelf price in AUD |
| `unitPrice`, `unitPriceUnit`, `unitPriceText` | Price per 100 g / 100 ml / kg / L as shown by Aldi |
| `wasPrice`, `isOnSpecial`, `promotion` | Filled when Aldi shows a was-price or saving |
| `isSpecialBuy`, `onSaleFrom`, `onSaleText` | Special Buys and their on-sale date |
| `department`, `category`, `aisle` | Aldi's category path (some Special Buys have none) |
| `url`, `imageUrl` | Product page and a 500 px image |

### Cost

You pay per product returned (see the **Pricing** tab). The whole catalogue is about 3,200 products, so a full run costs a few dollars at most, and much less if you pick categories or only Special Buys. Set **Max products** or a run spending limit to stay in control - the Actor stops cleanly when either is reached.

### Good to know

- **Alcohol and age-restricted (18+) products are not included**, and neither are products whose names indicate alcohol. Everything else in the catalogue is.
- Prices come from Aldi's public product listing for the default store (`storeId`, changeable under *Advanced*). Aldi uses national pricing for most products.
- The Actor is polite: it identifies itself, waits between requests and stops if Aldi ever refuses access.
- It reads only publicly available product information; no login is used and no personal data is collected.

### FAQ

**How often is the data updated?** Every run fetches live data. Schedule the Actor (daily or weekly) to keep a history.

**Can I get only new Special Buys?** Tick *Only Special Buys*; `onSaleFrom` tells you when each one goes on sale.

**A category I entered was "not found".** Copy the category URL from aldi.com.au (it contains `/k/<number>`) and paste it in *Categories*.

**Something broke or a field is missing?** Open an issue on the Actor page - fixes are usually quick.

# Actor input Schema

## `categories` (type: `array`):

Leave empty for the whole catalogue (~3,300 products). Otherwise add category slugs (e.g. pantry, dairy-eggs-fridge), sub-category paths (e.g. pantry/confectionery) or category URLs copied from aldi.com.au, one per line. Alcohol and 18+ products are never collected.

## `onlySpecialBuys` (type: `boolean`):

Keep only Special Buys - products with an on-sale date (current and upcoming weekly specials).

## `onlySpecials` (type: `boolean`):

Keep only products showing a was-price or a saving.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many products. Leave empty for no limit.

## `storeId` (type: `string`):

Aldi store code used for prices. The default works for national pricing.

## `requestDelayMs` (type: `integer`):

Pause between two requests to Aldi. Higher is gentler on the site; the minimum is 500 ms.
