## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Keyword Ideas from Google, YouTube, Amazon & Bing - No API Key

Turn one seed keyword into hundreds of real search phrases that people type into Google, YouTube, Amazon, Bing, DuckDuckGo and eBay.
Type a seed, click Start, get a de-duplicated list in about a minute, tagged by source and intent (question, comparison, commercial, local).

### What you get

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| keyword | The suggested phrase, lower-cased and de-duplicated across engines |
| seed | The seed it came from |
| sources | Which engines suggested it, e.g. `["google","amazon","bing"]` |
| sourceCount | How many engines suggested it. A phrase that 3 or more engines agree on is a common one |
| bestRank | Best position it had in any engine's list (1 = first suggestion) |
| intents | `question`, `comparison`, `commercial`, `local` (a phrase can have several) |
| type | `plain`, `alphabet`, `question`, `comparison` or `preposition` |
| modifier | The expansion word that found it, e.g. `how`, `vs`, `for` |
| expansion | The exact query type that found it first, e.g. `alphabet:f` or `question:why` |
| depth | 1 = from your seed, 2 = from a round-2 expansion of a round-1 idea |
| wordCount, country, language | Handy for filtering long-tail phrases |

### 3 ways to use it

1. **Quick ideas for one keyword** (the default run: 500 ideas in about 20 seconds for $0.25):
   `{"seeds": ["standing desk"]}`
2. **Amazon / eBay listing keywords** (what buyers type into a shop search):
   `{"seeds": ["yoga mat"], "engines": ["amazon", "ebay"], "onlyIntents": ["commercial"]}`
3. **Blog and video topics with depth 2** (questions, comparisons, longer phrases, several seeds):
   `{"seeds": ["meal prep", "air fryer"], "engines": ["google", "youtube", "bing"], "depth": 2, "onlyIntents": ["question", "comparison"], "maxIdeasPerSeed": 800}`

### Input guide

| Field | What to enter | Default | Tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| seeds | One or more starting keywords | `standing desk` | Up to 50. Short seeds (1-3 words) work best |
| engines | google, youtube, amazon, bing, duckduckgo, ebay | all six | Drop engines you do not need to run faster |
| expansion | none / alphabet / questions / alphabet+questions | alphabet+questions | alphabet+questions is about 50 queries per engine |
| country, language | Market codes such as `us`/`en`, `de`/`de`, `gb`/`en` | us / en | Amazon and eBay switch to that country's store |
| depth | 1 or 2 | 1 | 2 re-expands the best round-1 ideas for longer phrases |
| depth2MaxSeeds | How many round-1 ideas to re-expand | 10 | Keeps the run short and cheap |
| maxIdeasPerSeed | Upper bound of ideas per seed | 500 | Best-agreed ideas first |
| minEngines | Keep ideas that N engines agree on | 1 | Use 2 for a shorter, more reliable list |
| onlyIntents | question, comparison, commercial, local | empty (all) | Great for content briefs |
| excludeWords | Drop ideas containing these words | empty | e.g. `free`, `diy` |

### Output example

```json
{
  "keyword": "standing desk for small spaces",
  "seed": "standing desk",
  "sources": ["google", "amazon", "bing"],
  "sourceCount": 3,
  "bestRank": 2,
  "intents": [],
  "type": "preposition",
  "modifier": "for",
  "expansion": "modifier:for",
  "depth": 1,
  "wordCount": 5
}
```

### Pricing (pay per event)

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Keyword idea delivered | $0.0005 |
| Seed expanded (once per seed that returned ideas) | $0.002 |

- 1 seed, default settings (hits the 500 cap): **$0.25**
- 200 ideas for one seed (set maxIdeasPerSeed to 200): **$0.10**
- 10 seeds x 500 ideas: **about $2.50**

You pay only for ideas that are delivered. If an engine is down, you are not charged for what it did not return.
Keyword tools on the Apify Store typically charge $0.01 to $0.015 per keyword.

### Use it with

- **Before:** your product or topic list -> **this Actor** -> a rank tracker, a content calendar or a Google Sheet.
- **Then:** feed the `question` ideas to a writer or an AI agent for article outlines, or the `commercial` ones to your shop listing.
- Make, Zapier, n8n: trigger on "run succeeded" and send the dataset to Sheets, Airtable or Notion.
- **AI agents / MCP:** call `that_red_bird/keyword-ideas-autocomplete` with `{"seeds": ["..."]}` and get JSON rows back, ready to cluster.
- Schedule weekly and compare runs to see which phrases are new.

### FAQ

- **Is this search volume?** No. Autocomplete shows what people type, not how often. `sourceCount` and `bestRank` are honest popularity hints, nothing more. Pair it with a volume tool if you need numbers.
- **Is it legal?** It uses the public autocomplete endpoints that every search box calls. No login and no personal data.
- **Why do I get fewer ideas than expected?** Niche seeds have fewer suggestions. Try `depth: 2`, other engines, or a broader seed.
- **Why is an engine missing from some rows?** Each engine suggests different phrases. An engine that is rate-limiting is listed in the run summary and the others continue.
- **Does it support other countries and languages?** Yes: set `country` and `language`. Google, YouTube and Bing use both. Amazon and eBay use the matching storefront (us, gb, de, fr, it, es, ca, au, jp, in for Amazon).
- **How do I get only new ideas?** Run on a schedule and compare datasets by `keyword`.

### Limits

No search volume, no difficulty score, no CPC. Suggestions are what each engine returns at the time of the run and vary by country. Reddit, Pinterest and TikTok suggestions are not included.

# Actor input Schema

## `seeds` (type: `array`):

One or more starting keywords or phrases, e.g. 'standing desk' or 'yoga mat'. Each seed is expanded separately. Up to 50 seeds.

## `engines` (type: `array`):

Which autocomplete sources to ask. Allowed: google, youtube, amazon, bing, duckduckgo, ebay. Use amazon and ebay for buyer phrases, youtube for video ideas.

## `expansion` (type: `string`):

How far to expand each seed. 'alphabet' adds a-z after the seed. 'questions' adds who/what/why/how/can... in front and vs/for/near/with... after. 'alphabet+questions' does both (about 50 queries per engine). 'none' asks only the seed itself.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Two-letter country code that sets the market, e.g. us, gb, de, fr, es, it, ca, au, in, jp. Amazon and eBay have their own storefront per country.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Two-letter language code for the suggestions, e.g. en, de, fr, es.

## `depth` (type: `integer`):

1 = expand each seed once. 2 = also ask the engines about the best ideas found in round 1 (a second round, capped by 'Round-2 seeds'). Depth 2 finds longer, more specific phrases.

## `depth2MaxSeeds` (type: `integer`):

With depth 2: how many of the best round-1 ideas per seed are expanded again. Each one costs one request per engine, so the cap keeps the run short.

## `maxIdeasPerSeed` (type: `integer`):

Upper bound on the ideas returned per seed. Ideas suggested by the most engines come first. You pay per idea delivered.

## `minEngines` (type: `integer`):

Keep only ideas suggested by at least this many engines. 1 = everything. 2 or 3 keeps the phrases that several engines agree on.

## `onlyIntents` (type: `array`):

Keep only ideas tagged with at least one of: question, comparison, commercial, local. Leave empty to keep all ideas.

## `excludeWords` (type: `array`):

Drop every idea that contains one of these words or phrases, e.g. 'free', 'diy'.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many autocomplete requests run at the same time. Each engine is also paced separately, so keep this modest.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional. Requests go out directly first. If an engine starts blocking or rate-limiting, the Actor switches that engine to Apify datacenter proxy by itself. Set your own proxy here to force one.
