## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What does LEI Lookup & Company Search do?

This Actor looks up companies in the official **GLEIF Global LEI Index** – the free, public register of **2.9+ million Legal Entity Identifiers (LEIs)** used by banks, KYC/AML, procurement and compliance teams. Search in bulk by:

- **LEI code** (20 characters) – validate and enrich lists of LEIs
- **Company name** – smart fuzzy matching that ranks the best match first, with a `matchScore`
- **National registration number** – Companies House, KBO/BCE, Handelsregister, KVK, SIREN… (common formats are normalised automatically)

Each result includes legal name, other/former names, legal & HQ address, legal form, jurisdiction, registration authority & number, entity status, LEI renewal dates, BIC codes and – optionally – the **direct and ultimate parent company** (corporate ownership, GLEIF Level 2 data).

### Use cases

- ✅ **KYC / AML onboarding** – verify counterparties and check whether their LEI is still `ISSUED` or `LAPSED`
- 🏦 **MiFID II / EMIR reporting** – validate LEIs before regulatory reporting
- 🔗 **Corporate hierarchy** – find parent and ultimate parent companies
- 🧹 **CRM / vendor master data cleanup** – match messy company names to an official legal entity and ID
- 📅 **LEI renewal monitoring** – schedule a run and catch lapsing LEIs (`nextRenewalDate`)

### Input example

```json
{
  "leis": ["HWUPKR0MPOU8FGXBT394"],
  "companyNames": ["Siemens AG", "Anheuser-Busch InBev"],
  "registrationNumbers": ["0417.497.106"],
  "nameMatching": "fuzzy",
  "country": "",
  "onlyActive": false,
  "maxResultsPerQuery": 3,
  "includeParents": true
}
```

### Output example

```json
{
  "lei": "529900NNUPAGGOMPXZ31",
  "legalName": "Siemens Aktiengesellschaft",
  "status": "ACTIVE",
  "registrationStatus": "ISSUED",
  "jurisdiction": "DE",
  "registeredAs": "HRB 6684",
  "legalAddressCity": "München",
  "legalAddressCountry": "DE",
  "nextRenewalDate": "2027-01-20T00:00:00Z",
  "bic": [],
  "directParentName": null,
  "ultimateParentName": null,
  "matchScore": 1,
  "query": "Siemens AG",
  "queryType": "name",
  "found": true
}
```

Queries with no match are also listed (`found: false`) so you can see which rows didn't resolve. **You are not charged for those.** A `SUMMARY` record in the key-value store lists all unmatched queries.

### How much does it cost?

**$3 per 1,000 entity records found**, plus a tiny start fee per run. Not-found queries are free.

### Notes

- Data comes from the official GLEIF API (public, CC0-licensed). The Actor respects GLEIF's rate limit, so very large batches of names take a while; LEI lookups are batched 100 at a time and are fast.
- Questions or feature requests? Open an issue – I usually respond within 24 hours.
