## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## TikTok Hashtag Details Scraper

Look up TikTok hashtag challenges with names, descriptions, participant counts and view counts. Submit multiple challenge names or IDs in one run and get one clean record per hashtag.

### What data can you extract?

Each dataset item is one flat record with the fields below. Counts come from the public TikTok hashtag page and can be null when TikTok hides them.

| Field | Type | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `challenge_id` | String | TikTok challenge ID of the hashtag. Use it for stable lookups in later runs. |
| `challenge_name` | String | Hashtag name as TikTok shows it, without the leading #. |
| `hashtag_url` | String | Public TikTok page of the hashtag, for example `https://www.tiktok.com/tag/BookTok`. |
| `description` | String or null | Hashtag description written by TikTok or the campaign owner; null when the hashtag has none. |
| `user_count` | Integer or null | Participant count TikTok reports for the hashtag; null when TikTok reports no count. |
| `view_count` | Integer or null | Total views of videos under the hashtag; null when TikTok reports no count. |
| `cover_url` | String or null | Cover image of the hashtag page. TikTok signs this link, so it expires after some time. |
| `input` | String | Challenge name or ID you submitted for this record. |
| `input_type` | String | `challenge_name` or `challenge_id`, depending on which input field produced this record. |
| `retrieved_at` | String | UTC date and time when this record was collected, in ISO 8601 format. |

### Use cases

- Campaign managers can track the reach of branded and trending hashtags over time.
- Social analysts can compare views and participants across a list of hashtags.
- Creators can check how big a hashtag is before they use it in a video.

### How to use

1. Open the Actor’s **Input** tab and start with the JSON below.
2. Put hashtag names in `challenge_names` or numeric challenge IDs in `challenge_ids`. A leading # is removed.
3. Start the run and open its default dataset to inspect or download the records.

```json
{
  "challenge_names": [
    "booktok",
    "fitness"
  ]
}
```

The run dataset can be downloaded as JSON, CSV, Excel or another format offered by Apify.

### Input

| Field | Type | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `challenge_names` | array of string | No | Preferred batch input. Hashtag/challenge names; an optional leading # is removed. Combined names and IDs are capped at 100. Constraints: maximum 100 items. |
| `challenge_ids` | array of string | No | Preferred batch input for stable numeric IDs. Combined names and IDs are capped at 100. Constraints: maximum 100 items. |
| `challenge_name` | string | No | Optional backward-compatible single lookup; processed together with batch inputs. |
| `challenge_id` | string | No | Optional backward-compatible numeric ID; processed together with batch inputs. |

Each saved hashtag record counts as one result. Lookups that fail or return a duplicate hashtag are not saved and not charged.

### FAQ

#### Is it legal to collect public information?

This Actor is for information visible on the public source pages it reads. You are responsible for checking the source terms, privacy and copyright rules, and the laws that apply to your use.

#### How many records will a run return?

One record per unique hashtag. If a name and an ID point to the same hashtag, the Actor saves it once. Hashtags that TikTok cannot find return no record.

#### Can I call it through the API or connect it to other tools?

Yes. Send the same JSON input to `POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/thescrappa~tiktok-challenge-details-scraper/runs`, then read the run’s default dataset. Make, Zapier and n8n can start runs and pass dataset rows to the next step; Google Sheets can receive rows through those workflows or a dataset export.

#### What happens when a request fails?

Check the run log for the source or input error, correct the input and retry after a temporary source issue. A run can contain rows saved before a later request failed.

#### Can I look up a TikTok challenge by its name or ID?

Yes. Use `challenge_name` or `challenge_id` for one lookup, or pass names in `challenge_names` and IDs in `challenge_ids`. TikTok Challenge Search can help find a challenge first.

#### Where are the videos of a hashtag?

This Actor returns hashtag details only. Use TikTok Hashtag Videos Scraper to collect the videos posted under a hashtag.
