## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

Get public Instagram data without wrestling with browsers. Add usernames or
URLs, choose profiles, posts, or Reels, and receive normalized rows ready for
spreadsheets, CRMs, workflows, and AI agents.

### What Instagram Scraper collects

- Profile identity and engagement totals
- Post and Reel captions, timestamps, likes, and comments
- Owners, shortcodes, thumbnails, public media URLs, and carousel children
- Optional raw source objects for advanced pipelines

### Quick start

The default input returns recent public posts for `mrbeast`.

```json
{
  "usernames": ["mrbeast", "natgeo"],
  "directUrls": [],
  "resultsType": "posts",
  "maxItems": 50
}
```

You can also provide profile, post, or Reel URLs in `directUrls`. Direct media
URLs return that item regardless of the selected feed result type.

### Example result

```json
{
  "platform": "instagram",
  "id": "123456789",
  "type": "post",
  "shortcode": "ABC123",
  "url": "https://www.instagram.com/p/ABC123/",
  "ownerUsername": "mrbeast",
  "caption": "Example caption",
  "likesCount": 120,
  "commentsCount": 8,
  "timestamp": "2026-09-01T12:00:00.000Z",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-09-14T02:30:00.000Z"
}
```

### Pricing

**$0.80 per 1,000 results** ($0.0008 per `instagram-result` event).

A result is charged only when it is accepted into the dataset, and Apify proxy
and platform usage are included in that price. Failed sources are reported
separately and are not charged.

### Limits

Public, logged-out data only. Private profiles, Stories, comments, followers,
login sessions, CAPTCHA solving, and media downloads are not included in this
MVP. Instagram can change or restrict its public responses without notice.

Use this Actor only where your collection and use comply with applicable law and
platform terms. This Actor is not affiliated with Meta or Instagram.

### Support

For a failed source, include the Actor run ID and input in the Issues tab.
Failed sources are also listed in the run's `ERRORS` key-value record.

Built by [ThriftAPI](https://apify.com/thriftapi). Pay per result. HTTP-first.
