## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## New NZ Bars & Restaurants – Alcohol Licence Leads

**Find new bars, restaurants, cafés and bottle stores in New Zealand before they open, and reach them first.**

Every venue that wants to sell alcohol in New Zealand must publicly notify its licence application, often weeks before opening. This Actor collects those notices from council websites and gives you one clean list of **new hospitality businesses**: name, address, licence type, business type and dates.

### What you get

A typical 30-day run returns around 40–50 new venues across Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

| Status | Licence | Venue | Address | Region | Business type | Received |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| new | on-licence | D-Salt | 2/13 Riccarton Road, Riccarton | Canterbury | Restaurant class 3 | 2026-09-30 |
| new | on-licence | Nova Nine | 13 O'Connell Street, Auckland Central | Auckland | – | 2026-09-30 |
| new | on-licence | Glenbyre Tavern | 111 Keighleys Road, Bromley | Canterbury | Tavern | 2026-09-30 |
| new | off-licence | Black Sands Brewing Company | 9/9 Westech Place | Auckland | – | 2026-09-29 |
| new | on-licence | The Sizzler House & Bar | 1 Newlands Road, Newlands | Wellington | Class 2 Restaurant with an outdoor area | 2026-09-17 |

### Who uses it

- **Beer, wine, spirits and coffee distributors** looking for new accounts
- **POS, booking, payments and delivery platforms** selling to new venues
- **Hospitality recruiters, cleaners, linen, waste and pest control** services
- **Insurance brokers, fit-out, signage and kitchen equipment** suppliers
- **Market researchers and investors** tracking hospitality openings across NZ

### How to use it

1. Keep **Application types = New** for sales leads (renewals are existing venues).
2. Optionally pick **Licence types**: *on-licence* for bars, restaurants and cafés; *off-licence* for bottle stores, supermarkets and online sellers.
3. **Schedule it weekly** and turn on **Only applications not returned before**, so each run gives you only the new venues since last time.
4. Export to **CSV, Excel or JSON**, or send results straight to **Google Sheets, HubSpot, Slack or email** with Apify integrations.

### Coverage

| Council | Updated | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Auckland | Weekly list | Licence type, suburb, date received |
| Wellington City | Public notices | Business type, applicant company, objection closing date |
| Christchurch | Public notifications | Business type, applicant company, objection closing date, notice PDF |

More regions are coming. Need a council we don't cover yet? Open an issue and tell us.

### Output fields

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `status` | `new` (a new venue), `renewal`, `variation` or `other` |
| `licence_type` | `on-licence`, `off-licence` or `club` |
| `trading_name` | Venue name |
| `address`, `suburb`, `region` | Location |
| `business_type` | e.g. Restaurant, Tavern, Bottle store (where the council publishes it) |
| `applicant` | Applicant **company, trust or club only**; names of private individuals are never included |
| `date_received` | When the council received or notified the application |
| `objection_closes` | Last day for public objections (Wellington, Christchurch) |
| `notice_url` | Link to the council's notice or weekly list |

### Pricing

You pay per application returned, so a quiet week costs little. Set a maximum cost on any run and the Actor stops there. Aircraft (airlines licence each plane for in-flight sales) are excluded by default, so you only pay for real venues.

### Notes

- Source: public notices published under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012. Councils only keep recent notices online, so this is a forward-looking feed rather than a historical database.
- Monitored weekly. If a council changes its website, the run's status message says which council failed, and it gets fixed.
- Not affiliated with any council or the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority.

# Actor input Schema

## `councils` (type: `array`):

Which councils to read.

## `statuses` (type: `array`):

New applications are new venues (the usual sales leads). Renewals are existing venues.

## `licenceTypes` (type: `array`):

Leave empty for all. On-licence = bars, restaurants, cafés. Off-licence = bottle stores, supermarkets, online sellers.

## `daysBack` (type: `integer`):

How far back to look. Councils only publish recent notices, so 7 to 30 days is typical.

## `onlyUnseen` (type: `boolean`):

For scheduled runs: skip applications this Actor already returned to you.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

0 = no limit.

## `excludeAircraft` (type: `boolean`):

Airlines hold a licence for each aircraft (e.g. ZK-OYF). These are excluded by default.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Auckland and Christchurch block overseas servers, so they're read through a New Zealand residential proxy. Leave as is unless you know you need something else.
