## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store & Google Play Reviews Scraper

Scrape **Google Play reviews** and **App Store reviews** for any public app in one run: star rating, title, full review text, author, date, app version, helpful votes and (on Google Play) the **developer reply**. This app review scraper works as a low-cost, unofficial **Google Play reviews API** and **App Store reviews API** for review monitoring, sentiment analysis and competitor research. Paste app URLs, App Store IDs or Google Play package names, choose one or more countries, and export to JSON, CSV or Excel.

- ⚡ **Fast and light.** No headless browser. In our tests it scraped 6,000 reviews in about 30 seconds on 256 MB of memory.
- 🌍 **Both stores, many countries.** Mix iOS and Android apps in one input. Scrape any App Store storefront and any Google Play country and language.
- 💸 **Pay only for results.** You pay per review delivered, nothing for failed apps or filtered-out reviews. No monthly rental.
- 🔒 **Public data only.** It never logs in. Uses the App Store's public customer-reviews feed and Google Play's public web data.
- 🧾 **One clean schema** for both stores, so iOS and Android reviews land in the same table.

### What can you use it for?

- **Review monitoring:** schedule a daily run with `reviewedAfter` and get only new reviews (great with Slack, email or Google Sheets integrations).
- **Competitor research:** compare what users love and hate about competing apps, per country.
- **Product and UX research:** filter 1–2 star reviews to find bugs, crashes and missing features by app version.
- **Customer support QA:** see which Google Play reviews got a developer reply and how fast.
- **AI and LLM pipelines:** feed structured reviews into sentiment analysis, topic clustering, RAG or dashboards.
- **ASO (App Store Optimization):** mine the words real users use to describe an app.

### Scrape Google Play reviews

Add a Google Play URL (`https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp`) or just the package name (`com.whatsapp`) to `apps`. Pick the review `language` and the `countries`. Google Play has no fixed review cap, so set `maxReviewsPerApp` or `reviewedAfter`.

### Scrape App Store reviews

Add an App Store URL (`https://apps.apple.com/us/app/whatsapp-messenger/id310633997`) or the numeric ID (`id310633997` or `310633997`). Each country is a separate storefront with its own reviews. Apple's public feed returns up to 500 reviews per country and sort order (see [Limits](#limits-you-should-know)).

### Input fields

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `apps` | App Store URLs (`https://apps.apple.com/us/app/.../id310633997`), App Store IDs (`id310633997` or `310633997`), Google Play URLs (`https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp`) or package names (`com.whatsapp`). |
| `countries` | Two-letter country codes, e.g. `["us", "gb", "de"]`. Each app is scraped once per country. Default `["us"]`. |
| `language` | Google Play review language, e.g. `en`, `de`, `es`. Default `en`. |
| `maxReviewsPerApp` | Maximum reviews per app **and country**. Default 100. `0` = all available. |
| `sort` | `NEWEST` (default) or `MOST_HELPFUL` (App Store most helpful / Google Play most relevant). |
| `reviewedAfter` | Optional `YYYY-MM-DD`. Only newer reviews. Use it for monitoring. |
| `ratings` | Optional star filter, e.g. `[1, 2]` for negative reviews only. |
| `useCountryFromUrl` | If a URL contains a country (`apps.apple.com/gb/...` or `&gl=de`), use it instead of `countries`. Default `true`. |
| `proxyConfiguration` | Usually not needed. |

```json
{
  "apps": [
    "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/whatsapp-messenger/id310633997",
    "com.whatsapp"
  ],
  "countries": ["us"],
  "language": "en",
  "maxReviewsPerApp": 100,
  "sort": "NEWEST"
}
```

### App review data fields

Each review is one dataset item with the same fields for both stores:

```json
{
  "store": "google",
  "appId": "com.revolut.revolut",
  "appName": "Revolut: Spend, Save, Trade",
  "developer": "Revolut Ltd",
  "country": "us",
  "language": "en",
  "reviewId": "2bd5ba89-6afe-4145-8254-17c5b856455b",
  "rating": 1,
  "title": null,
  "text": "they are now hiding what fees are going to be charged for adding money",
  "author": "Rafal P.",
  "authorUrl": null,
  "authorImage": "https://play-lh.googleusercontent.com/a-/...",
  "date": "2026-11-03T11:22:29Z",
  "appVersion": "10.154.1",
  "helpfulCount": 0,
  "voteCount": 0,
  "developerReply": "Hi. We do not hide fees for adding money. ...",
  "developerReplyDate": "2026-11-03T11:46:36Z",
  "reviewUrl": "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.revolut.revolut&reviewId=2bd5ba89-...",
  "appUrl": "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.revolut.revolut&hl=en&gl=us",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-11-04T16:34:42Z"
}
```

| Field | App Store | Google Play |
|---|---|---|
| `rating`, `text`, `author`, `date` | ✅ | ✅ |
| `appVersion` | ✅ | ✅ when the reviewer's app version is known (85–93% in our tests) |
| `title` | ✅ | — (Google Play reviews have no title) |
| `language` | — (Apple's feed has no language; reviews are per country) | ✅ the `language` you asked for |
| `helpfulCount` | ✅ helpful votes | ✅ thumbs-up votes |
| `voteCount` | ✅ all votes (helpful + not helpful) | ✅ same as `helpfulCount` (Google Play has only thumbs-up votes) |
| `developerReply`, `developerReplyDate` | — (not in Apple's public feed) | ✅ when the developer replied |
| `authorUrl` | ✅ reviewer profile URL | — (Google Play has no public profile pages) |
| `authorImage` | — (not in Apple's feed) | ✅ avatar image |

Empty fields are `null`, so iOS and Android reviews still fit one table.

A summary per app and country (app name, overall rating, rating count, reviews scraped, errors, timing) is saved to the key-value store as `RUN_SUMMARY`. Download the dataset as JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML, or read it through the Apify API.

### App reviews API in Python

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
import pandas as pd
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("tidy-data/app-store-google-play-reviews-scraper").call(run_input={
    "apps": ["com.spotify.music", "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/spotify-music-and-podcasts/id324684580"],
    "countries": ["us", "gb"],
    "maxReviewsPerApp": 500,
    "sort": "NEWEST",
})
df = pd.DataFrame(client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items())
print(df.groupby(["store", "rating"]).size())
```

### Monitor app reviews daily

Create an Apify Schedule (for example every morning) with `sort: "NEWEST"` and `reviewedAfter` set to a recent date, then connect Slack, e-mail, Google Sheets or a webhook on the Integrations tab. Add `ratings: [1, 2]` to watch only complaints.

### Pricing

You pay **$0.09 per 1,000 reviews** (pay per event, see the Pricing tab), plus a tiny per-run start fee. Example: 10,000 reviews cost under one US dollar. Platform usage is included in the price. Apps that are not found, and reviews removed by your filters, are never charged. You can cap spending with the run's maximum cost setting, and the Actor stops cleanly when the cap is reached.

### Limits you should know

- **App Store:** Apple's public review feed returns up to **500 reviews per country and sort order** (the newest 500, or the 500 most helpful). For more coverage, add more countries or run both sort orders; duplicates within a run are removed automatically.
- **Google Play:** no fixed cap. Popular apps can have millions of reviews, so set `maxReviewsPerApp` or use `reviewedAfter`.
- Reviews are country-specific on both stores. A review written in the UK store does not appear in the US store.

### Tips

- **Daily monitoring:** schedule a run with `sort: NEWEST` and `reviewedAfter` set to yesterday's date.
- **Only complaints:** `ratings: [1, 2]`.
- **Global picture:** `countries: ["us", "gb", "ca", "au", "de", "fr", "in", "br"]`.
- **Use it from AI agents:** this Actor works with the Apify MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor agents can call it directly.

### FAQ

#### How do I export Google Play reviews to CSV?

Run the Actor with your app, open the run's **Storage** tab and download the dataset as CSV (or Excel, JSON, XML, HTML). You can also fetch it from the Apify API, e.g. `https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<datasetId>/items?format=csv`.

#### Can I get reviews from multiple countries?

Yes. Add several codes to `countries`, e.g. `["us", "gb", "de"]`. Each app is scraped once per country and every review has a `country` field.

#### How many App Store reviews can I get?

Apple's public review feed returns at most **500 reviews per country and sort order**. To get more, add countries or run both `NEWEST` and `MOST_HELPFUL`; duplicates within a run are removed. Google Play has no fixed cap.

#### Is it legal to scrape app reviews?

This Actor only collects publicly available reviews that anyone can see without logging in. Reviews can contain personal data such as display names. Make sure your use complies with the GDPR and other applicable laws and with the stores' terms. If you are unsure, consult a lawyer.

# Actor input Schema

## `apps` (type: `array`):

Mix both stores freely. Examples: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/whatsapp-messenger/id310633997, id310633997, 310633997, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp, com.whatsapp.

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Two-letter country codes (ISO 3166-1 alpha-2), e.g. us, gb, de, no. Each app is scraped once per country. Reviews are country-specific on both stores.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Two-letter language code for Google Play reviews, e.g. en, de, es, nb. The App Store feed returns the storefront's reviews regardless of language.

## `maxReviewsPerApp` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many reviews for each app in each country. 0 = all available. Note: Apple's public feed returns at most 500 reviews per country and sort order.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

"Newest first" is best for monitoring. "Most helpful" uses the App Store's most-helpful and Google Play's most-relevant order.

## `reviewedAfter` (type: `string`):

Optional. Only return reviews written on or after this date (uses Newest first). Ideal for scheduled monitoring runs.

## `ratings` (type: `array`):

Optional. Only reviews with these star ratings (1-5), e.g. \[1, 2] for negative reviews. You pay only for reviews that pass the filter.

## `useCountryFromUrl` (type: `boolean`):

If an App Store URL contains a country (apps.apple.com/gb/...) or a Google Play URL contains gl=xx, scrape that country instead of the Countries list.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Usually not needed. Applies to App Store requests.
