## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## iTunes / App Store Catalog API

Fetch **App Store and iTunes catalog metadata** via Apple’s official **iTunes Search** and **Lookup** APIs.

This Actor is an **API client only**. It does **not** scrape App Store review HTML or any Apple web pages.

### Endpoints used

- `https://itunes.apple.com/search`
- `https://itunes.apple.com/lookup`

### What you get

App / catalog fields including `trackId`, `bundleId`, `trackName`, `artistName` / `sellerName`, genres, ratings counts (catalog aggregates — not scraped reviews), price, version, store URL, artwork URLs, description, screenshots URLs from the API, and `source` (`search` | `lookup`).

### Input

- **mode** — `search` | `lookup` | `both`
- **term** — search text (required for search)
- **country** — storefront (default `US`)
- **media** / **entity** — default `software` for apps
- **ids** / **bundleIds** — for lookup
- **limit** — max rows (also Search API limit, ≤200)
- **requestDelayMs** — default 3500 (~20 calls/min Apple guideline)

#### Example

```json
{
  "mode": "both",
  "term": "Notion",
  "country": "US",
  "media": "software",
  "entity": "software",
  "bundleIds": ["com.google.chrome.ios"],
  "limit": 10
}
```

### Pricing (pay-per-event)

| Event | Price | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `apify-actor-start` | **$0.001** | Synthetic Actor start |
| `app` | **$0.001** | One catalog row written to the dataset |

### Limitations & rules

- No App Store review HTML scraping.
- Respect Apple’s ~20 calls/minute Search API guidance via `requestDelayMs`.
- Ratings are catalog aggregates from the API, not individual reviews.

### Use cases

- App Store competitive catalog snapshots
- Resolve bundle IDs / Adam IDs to metadata
- Enrich datasets with official store fields

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

search = term search. lookup = id / bundleId / upc lookup. Both modes may be combined when search term and ids are provided.

## `term` (type: `string`):

URL-encoded search text for /search (required for search/both).

## `country` (type: `string`):

ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code for the storefront (default US).

## `media` (type: `string`):

iTunes media parameter. Default software for App Store catalog use.

## `entity` (type: `string`):

Optional entity filter (e.g. software, iPadSoftware). Leave empty for API default.

## `attribute` (type: `string`):

Optional search attribute (rarely needed).

## `ids` (type: `array`):

iTunes trackId / Adam IDs for /lookup?id=… (comma-joined).

## `bundleIds` (type: `array`):

iOS/macOS bundle identifiers for /lookup?bundleId=…

## `limit` (type: `integer`):

Hard cap on dataset rows. Also passed to Search API as limit (max 200 per request).

## `lang` (type: `string`):

Result language: en_us or ja_jp.

## `explicit` (type: `string`):

Yes or No — include explicit content.

## `requestDelayMs` (type: `integer`):

iTunes Search API ~20 calls/minute. Default 3500ms keeps Store runs under that budget.

  "requestDelayMs": 3500
}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `results` (type: `string`):
Catalog metadata from iTunes Search and Lookup APIs (apps and optional other media).
# API
You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.
## JavaScript example
```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';

// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});

// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "term": "Notion",
    "country": "US",
    "entity": "software",
    "bundleIds": [
        "com.google.chrome.ios"
    ],
    "limit": 10,
    "requestDelayMs": 3500
};

// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("tidydata69/itunes-app-store-catalog").call(input);

// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
