## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store Top Charts by Country (Free & Paid)

Get the current Apple App Store **Top Free** and **Top Paid** rankings for any country as clean, structured JSON. Each run returns up to the top 100 apps with rank, app ID, name, developer, release date and App Store URL.

The data comes from Apple's official public chart feed (the RSS feed behind Apple's marketing tools). No login, cookies or proxies are needed. The output contains only public App Store listing information: no user data, reviews or contact details.

### What you can use it for

- **App store optimization (ASO):** check where your app and your competitors rank today, in each storefront.
- **Market research:** see which apps and developers lead a country's charts, and compare storefronts side by side.
- **Trend tracking:** schedule the actor daily and keep your own ranking history. Apple's feed only shows the current chart and keeps no archive.

### Input

| Field | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| `country` | Two-letter ISO code of the storefront, e.g. `us`, `jp`, `gb`, `de`, `fr`, `kr`, `br`, `in` | `us` |
| `chart` | `top-free` or `top-paid` | `top-free` |
| `limit` | Number of ranks to return, 1 to 100 (Apple's maximum) | `100` |

```json
{ "country": "jp", "chart": "top-free", "limit": 100 }
```

To cover several countries or both charts, create one task per combination and put them on a schedule.

### Output

One dataset item per app, in rank order:

```json
{
  "capturedAt": "2026-10-08T21:00:02.615Z",
  "country": "us",
  "chart": "top-free",
  "rank": 7,
  "appId": "6754134922",
  "name": "PineDrama - Short Dramas",
  "artist": "TikTok Ltd.",
  "genres": [],
  "releaseDate": "2025-12-23",
  "url": "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pinedrama-short-dramas/id6754134922"
}
```

You can download the results as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read them through the Apify API.

### Pricing

Pay per event:

- **$1.00 per 1,000 results** (one result is one ranked app)
- a small actor-start event of $0.001 per run

A full top-100 chart therefore costs about $0.10. If Apple's feed fails to respond, the run fails without pushing results, so you are not charged for results.

### Notes and limits

- Apple's feed occasionally returns temporary 502/504 errors. The actor retries up to five times with backoff before failing.
- `genres` is often empty because Apple's feed omits it for many apps.
- Rankings change throughout the day. `capturedAt` records when each snapshot was taken.

### Need the history?

Sofue Data has been recording these charts on a daily schedule since August 2026 for 10 storefronts (US, JP, GB, DE, FR, KR, CA, AU, BR, IN). For historical data, see [sofuetakuma.uk](https://sofuetakuma.uk) or email hello@sofuetakuma.uk.
