## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Canada New Corporations Feed (Federal Registry)

**Get every new federal Canadian corporation by city, province or postal code. Get alerts when corporations are dissolved, change status, move or change their name. The data is the official Corporations Canada open data, updated daily. $1.50 per 1,000 results, and runs with no matches cost almost nothing.**

This Actor turns the Corporations Canada federal corporation files (about 1.58 million corporations in ~280 MB of CSV) into a clean, filterable feed. It does no scraping and uses no proxies or browser. It reads the official files published under the Open Government Licence - Canada.

| | |
|---|---|
| Source | [Corporations Canada federal corporation data](https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/0032ce54-c5dd-4b66-99a0-320a7b5e99f2) on open.canada.ca (refreshed daily) |
| Coverage | Corporations under the *Canada Business Corporations Act* (CBCA). Optionally also not-for-profits, cooperatives, boards of trade and other federal acts. Active, inactive and dissolved |
| Speed (measured 3 Nov 2026, 512 MB) | `new` / `search` / `bulk`: about 5-10 s. `changes`: about 4-5 min, because it reads all four files and the government server sends the 160 MB inactive file slowly |
| Price | $0.0015 per result plus $0.00005 per run |

### Use cases

- **Accountants and bookkeepers:** a daily list of companies incorporated in your city or postal area this week. Newly incorporated companies need bookkeeping, payroll and their first tax filings.
- **Lawyers and notaries:** new incorporations for corporate-services outreach. You can also see corporations marked *Dissolution Pending (non-compliance)*, which have missed annual filings.
- **Insurance brokers, banks and payroll providers:** B2B leads by FSA (postal prefix), such as every new corporation in `M5V`.
- **KYC, compliance and credit teams:** look up a corporation by number, business number (BN) or name and check its current federal status. A scheduled `changes` run tells you when a company you track is dissolved, amalgamated or moves.
- **Researchers and journalists:** bulk exports of the federal registry, filtered by status, province or act.

### Modes

| Mode | What you get |
|---|---|
| `new` (default) | Corporations whose incorporation (anniversary) date is on or after **Since date**. The default is 7 days ago |
| `changes` | Corporations that are **new**, **changed status**, **changed registered address** or **changed name** since your previous `changes` run. Each row has `changeType`, `changedFields`, `previousStatus` and `previousStatusDetail` |
| `search` | Lookup by name text, corporation number, business number, city or postal prefix |
| `bulk` | Every corporation that matches your filters, up to Max results |

All filters are optional and can be combined: provinces, cities, postal code prefixes, name contains, corporation numbers, business numbers and statuses (e.g. `Active`, `Dissolved`, `Dissolution Pending`, `Intent to Dissolve`).

#### How `changes` mode remembers the last run

- The **first run builds a baseline and returns 0 results** (only the run start is charged). The baseline is a compact snapshot of all ~1.58 million corporations: number, status, and hashes of address and name, about 19 MB. It is saved to a named key-value store in **your own** Apify account, `canada-corporations-feed-state`, under your **Snapshot name**.
- Every later run compares the current files with that snapshot, outputs the differences, and saves the new snapshot. Schedule it daily to get a daily change feed.
- The snapshot always covers all four files. Your filters only decide which changes are output. Use different snapshot names for independent monitors.
- In `changes` mode **Max results has no limit by default**, because each run moves the snapshot forward and a capped change would never be sent again. A single day can bring over 1,000 changed corporations across the registry (1,115 on 4 Nov 2026), so use filters (province, city, change type) to keep a monitor focused. If you set Max results or your maximum cost per run stops output early, the skipped count is in `SUMMARY.changesNotOutput`.
- Corporations that disappear from the files entirely are counted in the run summary (`changes.removed`) but not output.
- Corporations Canada refreshes the files about once a day (around 06:00 Toronto time). If you run more often than that, you'll see no new changes.

### Input examples

New corporations in Toronto since 1 November:

```json
{ "mode": "new", "sinceDate": "2026-11-01", "cities": ["Toronto"] }
```

Daily monitor for Ontario and Quebec status changes (schedule it daily):

```json
{ "mode": "changes", "provinces": ["ON", "QC"], "changeTypes": ["status_changed"], "snapshotName": "on-qc-status" }
```

Look up corporations by number:

```json
{ "mode": "search", "corporationNumbers": ["8660115", "8593094"] }
```

Every corporation in postal area M5V with a pending dissolution:

```json
{ "mode": "bulk", "postalPrefixes": ["M5V"], "statuses": ["Dissolution Pending"], "maxResults": 5000 }
```

From code:

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/tobbyb~canada-new-corporations-feed/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"mode":"new","provinces":["BC"]}'
```

### Output

Each row has all the columns of the official file under clean names: `corporationNumber`, `businessNumber`, `name`, `nameForm2`, `governingLegislation`, `status`, `statusDetail`, `anniversaryDate`, `lastAnnualFilingYear`, `lastAnnualMeetingDate`, `street`, `street2`, `city`, `province`, `country`, `postalCode`, `minDirectors`, `maxDirectors`. It also has:

- `changeType`, `changedFields`, `previousStatus`, `previousStatusDetail` (filled in `changes` mode)
- `sourceFile`, `sourceUrl`, `sourceUpdatedAt` (the official file's Last-Modified time), `fetchedAt`
- `licence`, `licenceUrl`, `attribution`, `datasetUrl`

The addresses are the corporation's registered office as published by Corporations Canada. The Actor adds no other data: no director names, emails or phone numbers.

#### Sample output (real run, 3 Nov 2026, mode `new`, Toronto, since 2026-11-02)

```json
}
```

That run found 10 Toronto CBCA corporations incorporated on or after 2 Nov 2026. Counting the same file independently gave 10 as well. It took 8 s and cost $0.0004 in platform usage.

Every run also saves a `SUMMARY` record with rows scanned per file, matches, change counts and source file dates.

### Good to know

- **Anniversary date** is Corporations Canada's term for the date of incorporation, amalgamation or continuance. An amalgamation creates a "new" corporation with a new date.
- New corporations sometimes appear in the files a day or two after their date. For a gap-free feed, use `changes` mode or overlap your `sinceDate` by a few days.
- Only **federal** corporations are covered. Companies incorporated only under a provincial registry (e.g. Ontario or BC) are not in this data.
- `search` and `bulk` read only active files unless you turn on *Include inactive and dissolved*, ask for a Dissolved/Inactive status, or look up corporation or business numbers.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.0015 per result** ($1.50 per 1,000) and **$0.00005 per run start**. Max results and your run's maximum cost cap the bill. A daily `changes` monitor that finds nothing costs only the start event plus Apify platform usage.

### Licence and attribution

Contains information licensed under the [Open Government Licence - Canada](https://open.canada.ca/en/open-government-licence-canada). Source: Corporations Canada, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, [Federal corporation data](https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/0032ce54-c5dd-4b66-99a0-320a7b5e99f2). Every output row includes this attribution. **This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Government of Canada or Corporations Canada.** The data is provided as published. For legal purposes, check the official record with Corporations Canada.

### FAQ

**Is this legal to use?** Yes. The data is official open data under the OGL-Canada, which permits commercial use with attribution. The Actor downloads the published files and doesn't scrape any website.

**How fresh is it?** It's as fresh as the official files, which are refreshed daily. Each row's `sourceUpdatedAt` shows the file's timestamp.

**Why did my first `changes` run return nothing?** The first run only saves the baseline. Run it again after the next daily refresh.

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

<b>new</b>: corporations incorporated (or amalgamated) on or after 'Since date'.<br><b>changes</b>: corporations that are new, changed status, moved address or changed name since your previous 'changes' run (the first run only saves a baseline).<br><b>search</b>: look up corporations by name, number, business number, city or postal code.<br><b>bulk</b>: export every corporation matching the filters.

## `sinceDate` (type: `string`):

Incorporation / amalgamation (anniversary) date on or after this day, YYYY-MM-DD. Empty = 7 days ago.

## `provinces` (type: `array`):

Two-letter codes of the registered office, e.g. ON, QC, BC, AB. Empty = all.

## `cities` (type: `array`):

City/town of the registered office, exact name, not case-sensitive, e.g. Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver.

## `postalPrefixes` (type: `array`):

Postal code starts with, e.g. M5V (a forward sortation area), M or K2K 3.

## `nameContains` (type: `string`):

Text that must appear in the corporate name (either name form), not case-sensitive, e.g. CONSULTING.

## `corporationNumbers` (type: `array`):

Federal corporation numbers, e.g. 8660115.

## `businessNumbers` (type: `array`):

CRA 9-digit business numbers, e.g. 835752437.

## `statuses` (type: `array`):

Keep only these statuses or status details, e.g. Active, Dissolved, 'Dissolution Pending', 'Intent to Dissolve'. A Dissolved/Inactive status automatically includes the inactive files.

## `changeTypes` (type: `array`):

Which changes to output. Empty = all.

## `includeNonCBCA` (type: `boolean`):

Also include not-for-profits, cooperatives, boards of trade and other federal acts (default: business corporations under the CBCA only).

## `includeInactive` (type: `boolean`):

Also read the inactive / dissolved files (about 160 MB more, slower). Always on in 'changes' mode and for number lookups in 'search' mode.

## `snapshotName` (type: `string`):

Name of the saved state used to find changes between runs. Use different names to keep independent monitors. Stored in your named key-value store 'canada-corporations-feed-state'.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many results (each result is one charged event). Leave empty for the default: 1,000 for new, search and bulk; no limit for changes, so a daily change feed never skips changes (your maximum cost per run still applies).
