## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Ranked Keywords & Domain Overview API

See **which Google keywords a domain, subdomain or page ranks for**: position, ranking URL, search volume, CPC, keyword difficulty, search intent and estimated traffic. Each domain also gets an **overview**: how many keywords it ranks for, how many in the top 3, 10 and 100, and its estimated organic traffic and what that traffic would cost in ads. **94 countries.** No subscription.

**Price: $1.50 per 1,000 keywords + $0.02 per domain. Domains with no data are free.**

### What you get for each keyword

| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| `domain` | The domain, subdomain or page you asked for |
| `keyword` | A Google search the domain ranks for |
| `position` | Position among results of the same type (organic results counted 1, 2, 3...) |
| `absolutePosition` | Position among all elements on the results page |
| `previousAbsolutePosition`, `positionChange` | The previous absolute position, and `new`, `up`, `down` or `same` |
| `url`, `title` | The page that ranks and its title in Google |
| `resultType` | `organic`, or `paid` when you include ads results |
| `searchVolume` | Average monthly Google searches for the keyword |
| `cpcUsd` | Average cost per click advertisers paid, in USD |
| `competition`, `competitionLevel` | Advertiser competition, 0-1 and LOW / MEDIUM / HIGH |
| `keywordDifficulty` | How hard it is to reach Google's top 10 organic results, 0-100 |
| `searchIntent` | informational, navigational, commercial or transactional |
| `estimatedTraffic` | Estimated monthly visits from this keyword (click-through rate x search volume) |
| `trafficCostUsd` | What that traffic would cost per month as ads |
| `trendMonthlyPercent`, `trendQuarterlyPercent`, `trendYearlyPercent` | Search volume change vs the previous month, quarter and year, in % |
| `serpFeatures` | Element types on that results page (organic, video, people_also_ask...) |
| `serpUpdatedAt` | When that results page was last checked |

Example row (real data, October 2026):

```json
{
  "domain": "backlinko.com",
  "keyword": "google trends",
  "position": 9,
  "absolutePosition": 12,
  "previousAbsolutePosition": 55,
  "positionChange": "up",
  "url": "https://backlinko.com/hub/content/google-trends",
  "resultType": "organic",
  "searchVolume": 368000,
  "cpcUsd": 8.11,
  "competitionLevel": "LOW",
  "keywordDifficulty": 54,
  "searchIntent": "informational",
  "estimatedTraffic": 3177.93,
  "trafficCostUsd": 25773.02,
}
```

### Domain overview

One record per domain, in the key-value store record `DOMAINS`:

| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| `rankedKeywords` | Keywords the domain ranks for in the chosen country and language |
| `top1`, `top3`, `top10`, `top20`, `top100` | How many of them rank in organic positions 1, 1-3, 1-10, 1-20 and 1-100 |
| `estimatedTraffic` | Estimated monthly organic visits |
| `trafficValueUsd` | What that organic traffic would cost per month as ads |
| `newKeywords`, `improvedKeywords`, `declinedKeywords` | Keywords that are new, moved up or moved down since the previous check |
| `paidKeywords`, `paidTraffic` | Ads results and their estimated traffic (only when `includePaidResults` is on) |
| `keywordsReturned` | Keyword rows delivered in this run |
| `hasData` | `false` when there is no data for the domain (not charged) |

### Input

```json
{
  "domains": ["backlinko.com", "blog.hubspot.com", "https://example.com/pricing/"],
  "country": "US",
  "language": "en",
  "maxKeywordsPerDomain": 100,
  "sortBy": "traffic"
}
```

- **domains**: up to 100 per run. `https://`, `www.` and a final `/` are removed from domains; duplicates are removed before anything is charged.
  - A **domain** (`example.com`) includes its subdomains.
  - A **subdomain** (`blog.example.com`) gives only that subdomain.
  - A **page** (anything with a path, like `example.com/pricing/`) gives only that exact URL. Type it exactly as it appears in Google: `/pricing/` and `/pricing` are different pages.
  - Entries that are not public websites (IP addresses, `localhost`, ports) are skipped and listed in the run's status message.
- **country**: two-letter code (US, GB, DE, BR, IN, AR, ...). 94 countries.
- **language**: optional; defaults to the country's main language. Some countries offer two or three (for example CA: en, fr; CH: de, fr, it; US: en, es).
- **maxKeywordsPerDomain**: 1 to 10,000. Default 100.
- **sortBy**: which keywords come first. `traffic` (default): the ones that bring the most estimated traffic. `searchVolume`: the most searched. `position`: the best positions first.
- **includePaidResults**: also return keywords where the domain shows in Google Ads results. Off by default (organic only).
- **dryRun**: returns clearly fake sample rows (marked `sampleData: true`) to test an integration. Free.

### Pricing, exactly

| One domain, keywords returned | You pay |
|---|---|
| 10 | $0.035 |
| 100 | $0.17 |
| 1,000 | $1.52 |

- **$0.02 per domain** ("Domain with data"), charged once per domain, only when its first keywords arrive. It includes the domain overview. Apify may also bill its small standard Actor start fee.
- **$0.0015 per keyword row** ("Ranked keyword").
- Domains with no data, skipped entries and failed requests are never charged.
- Your **maximum cost per run** is respected before each request: if it covers only part of the work, the rest is not requested and not charged, and the status message tells you.
- Users on the Apify Free plan can look up 1 domain and 20 keywords per run. Any paid Apify plan removes the limit.

### Where the data comes from

Rankings and keyword metrics come from [DataForSEO](https://dataforseo.com/)'s database (DataForSEO Labs), which collects Google results pages and keyword data. Traffic numbers are estimates (click-through rate x search volume), not analytics data. Each row shows `serpUpdatedAt`, the date that results page was checked: in our own sample (2,422 rows from 17 domains, October 2026) half had been checked by 30 July 2026 and 90% by 4 September 2026, so treat positions as a picture of the last few months, not of today.

### Use it from code or an AI agent

Call it through the [Apify API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2) or the Apify MCP server like any Actor. Keyword rows are in the default dataset (view `overview` for the main columns); domain overviews are in the key-value store record `DOMAINS`; a run summary (counts and amount charged) is in the record `OUTPUT`.

Need search volume for your own keyword list? See our Keyword Search Volume & Keyword Research API (`touchrock/keyword-volume`).

### Limits

- Bing and other search engines are not included.
- Backlinks are not included.
- Keywords a domain used to rank for but lost are not included.
