# Yahoo Auctions Japan Fair Value API (`transaction-labs/yahoo-auctions-japan-fair-value-api`) Actor

Estimate Japanese sold-auction prices using Yahoo Auctions Japan data. Search in English and receive a JPY median, price range, confidence level, and evidence counts. Pay $0.49 only when sufficient evidence supports a valuation. Shipping excluded; condition and variant adjustments are not finalized.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Yahoo Auctions Japan Fair Value API

**English-language item research. Japanese sold-auction evidence. JPY price estimates.**

Research an item from an English description and estimate its value using sold-listing data from Yahoo Auctions Japan. The Actor translates the search into Japanese, screens out unsuitable comparables, and calculates an evidence-based median and price range.

**Price: $0.49 per completed, qualifying valuation.** If the evidence does not meet the Actor's eligibility rules, it returns an insufficient-evidence result **without triggering the valuation event**.

### What you get

- **Median price in JPY**, plus a 25th-to-75th-percentile range from eligible sold-auction listings.
- **Evidence counts**, including eligible sales and sales within the past 90 days.
- **Evidence confidence level** (`MODERATE`, `LOW`, or `INSUFFICIENT`). This is a heuristic evidence-quality label, **not** a statistical probability of accuracy.
- **Warnings** about limitations such as variant ambiguity, sparse data, or missing adjustments.
- **Structured JSON** suitable for valuation workflows, product research, and downstream automations.

The default customer dataset provides the valuation summary and evidence counts, **not a list of individual comparable-sale URLs**.

### Input

Each run values **one item**. Provide a specific English description, including the brand, model, variant or reference number, completeness, and relevant exclusions when known.

| Field | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `itemDescription` | Yes | English description of the item to value. |
| `condition` | No | Desired condition, such as `Used, good working condition`. |

Example input:

```json
{
  "itemDescription": "Canon EOS R5 mirrorless camera, original first-generation model, camera body only, fully working. Exclude EOS R5 Mark II, EOS R5 C, lenses, lens kits, accessories, and cameras sold for parts.",
  "condition": "Used, good working condition"
}
```

**Tip:** Precise model and reference numbers matter. For instance, specify `EOS R5 first generation` rather than simply `Canon camera`. Include exclusions for kits, accessories, replicas, parts, or other variants when relevant.

### How to run

1. Open the Actor on Apify and choose **Input**.
2. Enter your item description and optional condition.
3. Allow a **maximum cost per run of at least $0.49**, then start the run.
4. Open the default dataset in **Output** to view or export the JSON result.

For programmatic access, use the **API** tab on the Actor page to obtain the current endpoint and integration examples.

### Example successful result

The following values come from a completed Canon EOS R5 test. Results can change as the available evidence changes.

```json
{
  "testMode": false,
  "stage": "VALUATION",
  "itemDescription": "Canon EOS R5 mirrorless camera, original first-generation model, camera body only, fully working. Exclude EOS R5 Mark II, EOS R5 C, lenses, lens kits, accessories, and cameras sold for parts.",
  "normalizedTarget": {
    "itemType": "ミラーレス一眼カメラ",
    "brand": "Canon",
    "model": "EOS R5",
    "variant": "初代モデル",
    "edition": null,
    "includedAccessories": [],
    "condition": "中古良品",
    "mustMatch": ["EOS R5", "初代モデル"],
    "rejectIf": ["EOS R5 Mark II", "EOS R5 C", "レンズ", "レンズキット", "アクセサリー", "ジャンク"]
  },
  "status": "READY",
  "currency": "JPY",
  "medianJPY": 239500,
  "priceRangeJPY": {
    "lower": 227300,
    "upper": 252300
  },
  "evidence": {
    "eligibleSales": 16,
    "recentSales90Days": 16,
    "confidence": "MODERATE"
  },
  "warnings": [
    "Some listings have unspecified variants",
    "Variant and condition adjustments not finalized"
  ],
  "priceBasis": "Observed sold-auction prices in JPY; shipping excluded, tax treatment varies; no variant, condition or accessory adjustment",
  "customerReady": true
}
```

#### If there is not enough evidence

The Actor returns `status: "INSUFFICIENT_EVIDENCE"`, `customerReady: false`, and `null` for the median and price-range endpoints. It still provides evidence counts and explanatory warnings. **No `Completed Valuation` event is triggered** for this outcome.

### How billing works

| Outcome | Valuation event | Price |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Qualifying result (`READY`, `customerReady: true`) | One `Completed Valuation` event | **$0.49** |
| Insufficient evidence (`INSUFFICIENT_EVIDENCE`) | None | **$0.00 for the valuation event** |

Apify platform usage costs are **included in the Actor's event pricing**, rather than billed as a separate usage component to the customer. The maximum-cost-per-run setting must allow at least $0.49. The valuation fee applies per qualifying run, not per individual comparable listing.

A qualifying valuation currently requires, among other checks, **at least 10 eligible auction sales**, **at least four within 90 days**, an acceptable price spread, and no unresolved reference or mixed named-variant conflict. These are conservative operating rules, not an independent guarantee of accuracy.

### Important limitations

- Estimates summarize **observed sold-auction listing prices**. A sold-listing signal does not independently prove that every transaction was paid and fulfilled.
- **Shipping is excluded.** Tax treatment can vary. Results are in **JPY** and do not convert currencies.
- Condition, variant, accessory, and bundle-price adjustments are **not finalized**. Even matching listings may differ in wear, completeness, shutter count, included items, or other value drivers.
- Results reflect the listings retrieved and classified for that run. Search coverage, seller descriptions, and AI-based matching can introduce omissions or errors.
- Prices are market-research estimates, **not appraisals or guaranteed sale/purchase prices**. Independently verify important buying and resale decisions.
- This is an independent research Actor and is **not affiliated with or endorsed by Yahoo Auctions Japan**.

### Best use cases

Cross-border product research, Japanese collectible and electronics pricing, preliminary sourcing decisions, resale screening, and automated JPY price-estimate workflows.
