## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## ClinicalTrials.gov New Studies Tracker: New Clinical Trials with Sponsor Rollup

Pull newly registered clinical studies from ClinicalTrials.gov into a clean table. Each row has the NCT id, title, lead sponsor, phase, status, conditions, interventions, enrollment, start date, first posted date, primary completion date, countries, a link to the study and a simple recency and opportunity score. Turn on the sponsor rollup to get one row per sponsor instead. Data comes from the free public ClinicalTrials.gov API v2. No login, no proxy, no key.

### What does this Actor do?

It calls `clinicaltrials.gov/api/v2/studies` for studies whose first-posted date falls in the window you choose (default: the last 30 days), reads only the study fields listed below, scores each study and returns the best-scoring studies first. You can narrow by search term, phase, status and minimum score. It never requests investigator, contact or facility-contact fields, so no personal names, emails or phone numbers are returned. The actor reports what the registry publishes. It adds no medical advice.

**Run in 30 seconds**

1. Open the Actor and press **Try for free** (a free Apify account is enough).
2. Keep the prefilled input (last 30 days, 100 rows) and press **Start**.
3. Open the **Output** tab. Use the table view or download CSV, Excel or JSON.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `daysBack` | Keep studies first posted in the last N days. Default 30. |
| `searchTerm` | Optional ClinicalTrials.gov search expression, for example `diabetes`. |
| `phases` | Optional list: `EARLY_PHASE1`, `PHASE1`, `PHASE2`, `PHASE3`, `PHASE4`, `NA`. |
| `statuses` | Optional list such as `NOT_YET_RECRUITING`, `RECRUITING`. |
| `minOpportunityScore` | Optional 0 to 100 threshold. |
| `sponsorRollup` | Return one row per lead sponsor instead of one row per study. |
| `maxItems` | Stop after this many rows. Default 100. |

Sample input:

```json
{
  "daysBack": 14,
  "searchTerm": "obesity",
  "phases": ["PHASE2", "PHASE3"],
  "maxItems": 50
}
```

### Output

One row per study:

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `nctId`, `studyUrl` | The registry id and a link to the study page. |
| `title` | Brief title. |
| `sponsor`, `sponsorClass` | Lead sponsor organization and its class (INDUSTRY, NIH, OTHER and so on). |
| `phase`, `status` | Study phase and overall recruitment status. |
| `conditions`, `interventions` | Conditions studied and intervention names. |
| `enrollment` | Planned or actual enrollment count. |
| `startDate`, `firstPostedDate`, `primaryCompletionDate` | Key dates (ISO; some are month precision). |
| `countries` | Countries with listed study locations. |
| `daysSincePosted` | Age of the registration. |
| `opportunityScore` | 0 to 100, see below. |
| `scrapedAt` | When the run read the data. |

With `sponsorRollup` on, each row is a sponsor: `sponsor`, `sponsorClass`, `studyCount`, `totalEnrollment`, `phases`, `topConditions`, `latestFirstPostedDate`, `maxOpportunityScore`, `nctIds` (up to 25) and `sponsorUrl`.

### Sample output

```json
{
  "nctId": "NCT07841106",
  "title": "Early Prophylactic Versus Late Salvage Recombinant Human Endostatin in Managing Radiosurgery-Induced Brain Injury for NSCLC Brain Metastases",
  "sponsor": "Jiangmen Central Hospital",
  "sponsorClass": "OTHER",
  "phase": "Phase 2",
  "status": "NOT_YET_RECRUITING",
  "conditions": ["Lung Cancer (Non-Small Cell)", "Brain Injury"],
  "interventions": ["Recombinant Human Endostatin (Endostar)"],
  "enrollment": 49,
  "startDate": "2026-09-01",
  "firstPostedDate": "2026-09-25",
  "primaryCompletionDate": "2028-04-30",
  "studyUrl": "https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT07841106",
  "opportunityScore": 56
}
```

### Use cases

- Business development teams at CROs, labs and suppliers: spot sponsors who just registered Phase 2 and 3 trials and are about to need sites, vendors or services.
- Biotech and pharma competitive intelligence: watch new studies in a condition or drug class with a weekly scheduled run.
- Investors and analysts: use the sponsor rollup to see which companies are registering the most new studies this month.
- Patient advocacy and research groups: list newly posted, not yet recruiting studies for a condition.

### Opportunity score

A fixed rule of thumb, not a clinical or financial rating. Up to 40 points for recency (linear over 60 days), 20 for not yet recruiting or 18 for recruiting (10 enrolling by invitation, 5 active not recruiting), up to 15 for phase (Phase 3 highest), up to 15 for planned enrollment size, and 10 if the lead sponsor is industry. Capped at 100. The same inputs always give the same score on the same day.

### Why use it

- **Official source.** Data is the ClinicalTrials.gov registry as published through its public API.
- **Ready to filter.** Dates in ISO format, one row per study, scores for sorting.
- **Sponsor view.** The rollup turns thousands of studies into a short list of active sponsors.

### Pricing

Pay per event. You pay a small fixed amount per row delivered, listed on the Pricing tab, plus a tiny start fee per run. You can set a maximum cost per run in the run options.

### FAQ

**How fresh is the data?**
New registrations appear on ClinicalTrials.gov on the business days after review. `firstPostedDate` is the date the registry first published the study.

**Why do I get fewer rows than maxItems?**
Only studies posted inside your window and matching your filters exist. Try a larger `daysBack` or remove filters.

**Does it include contact people?**
No. Investigator, official and contact names, emails and phone numbers are not requested or returned.

**Is this an official ClinicalTrials.gov or NIH product?**
No. It is an independent tool that reads the public API. Check the registry for authoritative records.

### Limits

- Covers studies registered on ClinicalTrials.gov only; other registries are not included.
- Registry data is sponsor-reported and may be incomplete or change. Do not use it for medical decisions.
- Rollup mode reads up to 20,000 studies per run.
