## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## FMCSA Insurance Cancellation Leads for Trucking Agents

Find US motor carriers whose liability or cargo insurance filing with FMCSA is scheduled to cancel, so trucking insurance agents can reach them before coverage lapses. Each row is one filing with the insurer, policy number, cancellation date, whether replacement coverage is already on file, the carrier's public phone, email, address, fleet size and a 0 to 100 lead score. Public federal data, no login, no proxy, no API key.

### What is FMCSA Insurance Cancellation Leads for Trucking Agents?

Find motor carriers whose FMCSA-filed liability or cargo insurance is scheduled to cancel. Each lead has the insurer, policy, cancellation date, a flag for replacement coverage already on file, business phone and email, address, fleet size and a 0-100 lead score. Public FMCSA data, no login. Run it from the Apify Console, the API or a schedule, and export the results as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML.

### Why use it

- **Public data only.** It reads open datasets from the US Department of Transportation, with no login.
- **Gap aware.** It checks active filings, so you can skip carriers that already switched insurers.
- **Ranked.** The lead score puts the most urgent carriers first.

### Output

One row per cancelling filing.

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `legalName`, `dbaName`, `usdotNumber`, `docketNumber` | The carrier. |
| `coverageType`, `insuranceCompany`, `policyNumber`, `formCode` | Which coverage is cancelling and with whom. |
| `cancellationEffectiveDate`, `daysUntilCancellation` | When the cancellation takes effect. |
| `coverageStatus`, `hasReplacementPolicy`, `replacementInsurer` | Whether another policy is on file. |
| `coverageAmountUsd`, `policyEffectiveDate` | Policy details when filed. |
| `phone`, `email`, `street`, `city`, `state`, `zip` | Business contact data from the census. |
| `powerUnits`, `drivers`, `carrierOperation`, `carrierStatus` | Fleet size and status. |
| `leadScore`, `saferUrl`, `leadId`, `scrapedAt` | Score, public record link, id and run time. |

### Sample output

```json
{
  "leadId": "MC123456|PL000000|20261105|34",
  "legalName": "EXAMPLE FREIGHT LLC",
  "coverageType": "BIPD",
  "insuranceCompany": "EXAMPLE INSURANCE CO",
  "cancellationEffectiveDate": "2026-11-05",
  "daysUntilCancellation": 12,
  "coverageStatus": "NO_REPLACEMENT",
  "hasReplacementPolicy": false,
  "state": "TX",
  "powerUnits": 9,
  "leadScore": 81
}
```

The values above illustrate the format and are not a real carrier.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `daysAhead` | Cancellations within the next N days (0 to 120). Default 30. |
| `daysBack` | Also include filings that cancelled in the last N days. Default 0. |
| `insuranceTypes` | `BIPD` (liability), `CARGO`, `SURETY`. Default BIPD and CARGO. |
| `states` | Optional two-letter state codes of the carrier address. |
| `minPowerUnits` | Keep carriers with at least this many trucks and tractors. |
| `excludeWithReplacement` | On by default. Drops filings where a replacement policy is already on file. |
| `activeCarriersOnly` | On by default. Drops carriers that are not active in the census. |
| `maxItems` | Stop after this many rows, highest score first. Default 100. |

Sample input:

```json
{ "daysAhead": 30, "daysBack": 0, "insuranceTypes": ["BIPD", "CARGO"], "excludeWithReplacement": true, "maxItems": 100 }
```

### Pricing

Pay per event. You pay a small fixed price per lead row delivered, shown on the Pricing tab, plus a tiny start fee per run. Rows removed by your filters are not charged, and you can set a maximum cost per run.

### What does this Actor do?

Motor carriers must keep proof of insurance on file with FMCSA, and the filing history is published as open data on data.transportation.gov. This actor reads the filings that have a cancellation date in your window, joins each carrier to the public FMCSA census, checks the active filings for a replacement policy, and returns a ranked table of leads.

- Window: cancellations in the next `daysAhead` days, and optionally ones that already happened in the last `daysBack` days.
- Coverage: liability (BIPD) and cargo by default; surety can be added.
- Replacement check: by default it drops carriers that already have another active or pending policy of the same type on file.
- Contact data: business phone, email, address, power units and drivers from the carrier's census filing.
- `leadScore` from 0 to 100 combines urgency, coverage gap, fleet size and whether contact details exist, and the best rows come first.

**Run in 30 seconds**

1. Open the Actor and press **Try for free**.
2. Keep the prefilled input and press **Start**.
3. Open the **Output** tab and download JSON, CSV or Excel.

### Use cases and workflows

- Give trucking insurance agents a weekly call list of carriers about to lose filed coverage.
- Help premium finance and surety teams see which accounts have a coverage gap.
- Let brokers and shippers monitor carriers in their network for lapsing insurance.
- Send new rows to a CRM, spreadsheet or n8n workflow on a schedule.
- Compare cancellation volume by state or insurer over time.

### Limits

- Only filings in the public dataset are returned, and the replacement check can miss policies filed under another docket.
- Contact data comes from the carrier's own census filing and can be out of date.
- This is a lead list, not proof that a carrier is uninsured. Confirm with the carrier.
- Business contacts only. No personal profiles are looked up.

### FAQ

**Where does the data come from?**
The FMCSA insurance filing history, the active insurance filings and the company census, all on data.transportation.gov.

**What does a cancellation notice mean?**
It means a filing is scheduled to end on that date. The carrier may already have switched insurers; that is what the replacement check is for.

**Why are some contact fields empty?**
Some carriers have no email or phone on their census filing.

**Is the lead score official?**
No. It is a transparent rule-based score: urgency up to 40, coverage gap up to 30, fleet size up to 20 and contact details up to 10.

### Changelog

- 2026-10-24: Initial release.
- 2026-10-25: Listing refresh: new Store icon, README reorganised (overview, data fields, pricing, FAQ) and changelog tab added. No code change.
