# Domain Availability Checker API: Bulk RDAP Lookup (`tudorlane/domain-availability`) Actor

Is the domain free? Check single domains or one name across many TLDs (.com, .co.uk, .ai, .io...) via official registry RDAP: available, or registered with registrar, creation and expiry dates.

## Pricing

$2.00 / 1,000 domain checks

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain Availability Checker API: Bulk RDAP Lookup

**Use when:** an AI agent or app naming a product, brand or startup needs to know if domains are free, across many TLDs at once, straight from the official registries (with registrar, creation and expiry dates for taken ones).

**Try this input** (also the default, just click Start)

```json
{"requests": ["google.com", {"name": "tudorlanepress", "tlds": ["com", "co.uk", "io"]}]}
```

**Sample output** (real run, 3 Nov 2026, trimmed)

```json
{"domain": "google.com", "available": false, "status": "registered", "registered": "1997-09-15", "expires": "2028-09-14", "registrar": "MarkMonitor Inc.", "checks": 1, "error": null}
{"name": "tudorlanetools", "available": ["tudorlanetools.com", "tudorlanetools.co.uk", "tudorlanetools.ai"],
 "results": [{"domain": "tudorlanetools.io", "available": null, "status": "unknown", "reason": ".io registry has no public RDAP; check with a registrar"}], "checks": 5, "error": null}
```

**Options**

- A plain string: one full domain.
- `name` + `tlds`: one name across many TLDs (default 18 popular ones: com, net, org, io, ai, co, app, dev, co.uk, de, eu, shop...).

Status is `available`, `registered` or `unknown`. Registered rows add `registrar`, `registered`, `expires`, `registry_status` (e.g. clientHold, pendingDelete). No API key needed.

**Pricing:** pay per event, **$0.002 per domain checked** at its registry. Rows with errors are not charged. No subscription.

### Limits & failure modes

- Some ccTLDs have no public RDAP (.io and .de in testing) and return `unknown`; check those with a registrar.
- "Available" means not registered at the registry; premium or reserved names may still be blocked or priced higher.
- Not a registrar: it does not buy or hold domains.

Last tested: 3 Nov 2026.

### Use from AI agents (MCP)

- **Apify MCP server:** add `https://mcp.apify.com/?tools=tudorlane/domain-availability` to Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, VS Code or any MCP client.
- **REST:** `POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/tudorlane~domain-availability/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN` with the input JSON.

# Actor input Schema

## `requests` (type: `array`):

Each item: {"domain": "example.com"} or {"name": "mybrand", "tlds": \["com","co.uk","ai"]} (default: 18 popular TLDs). Billed per domain checked. Max 2000. Errors are not charged.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "requests": [
    {
      "domain": "google.com"
    },
    {
      "name": "tudorlanepress",
      "tlds": [
        "com",
        "co.uk",
        "io"
      ]
    }
  ]
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One item per request.

## `dataset` (type: `string`):

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "requests": [
        {
            "domain": "google.com"
        },
        {
            "name": "tudorlanepress",
            "tlds": [
                "com",
                "co.uk",
                "io"
            ]
        }
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("tudorlane/domain-availability").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
