## Pricing

$1.00 / 1,000 ip lookups

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## IP Geolocation API: Country, City, ASN & Time Zone

### Use when…

- You need the country, city, time zone or network owner (ASN) of an IP address.
- A fraud, analytics or personalisation agent must flag hosting/datacenter IPs or EU visitors.
- You want fast bulk lookups from an offline database, with no API key.

### Try this input

Copy-paste this JSON as the Actor input (it matches a successful run / the default schema):

```json
{
  "requests": [
    {
      "ip": "8.8.8.8"
    },
    {
      "ip": "81.2.69.142"
    },
    {
      "ip": "2a03:2880:f12f:83:face:b00c::25de"
    }
  ]
}
```

### Sample output (real run 2026-10-27)

One dataset item, shortened:

```json
{
  "ip": "8.8.8.8",
  "host": null,
  "version": 4,
  "country_code": "US",
  "country": "United States",
  "continent": "NA",
  "region": "California",
  "city": "Mountain View",
  "lat": 37.422,
  "lon": -122.085,
  "timezone": "America/Los_Angeles",
  "in_eu": false,
  "…": "+6 more keys"
}
```

Fast IP-to-location lookups from an offline database: no rate limits, up to 10,000 IPs per run.

- Country, continent, region, city, latitude/longitude
- **Time zone** (from coordinates) and EU membership flag
- **ASN** and network owner (e.g. Google LLC, Comcast)
- **Likely hosting/datacenter** flag (cloud and VPS providers): useful for fraud and bot checks
- Hostnames are resolved first (e.g. `bbc.co.uk`); private/reserved IPs are flagged

### Quick start

Leave the default input (it is prefilled) and click **Start**:

```json
{"requests": [{"ip": "8.8.8.8"}, {"ip": "81.2.69.142"}, {"ip": "2a03:2880:f12f:83:face:b00c::25de"}]}
```

Send many items in `requests` per run (cheaper and faster than one run each).

### Sample output (real run, 26 Oct 2026, default input)

| ip | country | region | city | timezone | in_eu | asn | as_org | likely_hosting |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8.8.8.8 | United States | California | Mountain View | America/Los_Angeles | false | 15169 | Google LLC | true |
| 81.2.69.142 | United Kingdom | England | London | Europe/London | false | 20712 | Andrews & Arnold Ltd | false |
| 2a03:2880:f12f:83:face:b00c::25de | Ireland | Leinster | Dublin (Ballsbridge) | Europe/Dublin | true | 32934 | Facebook, Inc. | false |

Each row also has `version`, `country_code`, `continent`, `lat`, `lon`, `accuracy_note` and `source`.

### Use cases

- Add country and time zone to sign-ups or log lines.
- Flag sign-ups from datacenter or hosting IPs in fraud and bot checks.
- Localise content, currency or language by visitor country.
- Bulk-enrich server logs with network owner (ASN).

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.001 per ip lookup** (one IP address located). Rows with errors are not charged.

### Sources and licences

**IP Geolocation by DB-IP** (https://db-ip.com), DB-IP Lite City and ASN databases, licensed CC BY 4.0, updated monthly (refreshed on each build). Time zones: timezonefinder (MIT).

### Notes

City-level results are estimates and can be wrong for mobile, VPN and corporate networks. Not for identifying individuals.

### FAQ

**Do I need an API key?** No. It uses an offline database, so there are no rate limits.

**IPv6?** Yes, and hostnames are resolved first.

**How many per run?** Up to 10,000 IPs.

### Limits & failure modes

- City results are estimates and can be wrong, especially for mobile, VPN and corporate networks.
- The hosting flag is a guess from the network owner, not a VPN detector.
- The database is updated monthly, so recently moved IP ranges may be out of date.
- It cannot identify a person or street address.

### Use from AI agents (MCP)
