## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain Availability Checker - Bulk RDAP & WHOIS Lookup

Check hundreds of domain names in one run and get a clear answer for each: **available**, **registered**, **likely-available** or **unknown**. For registered domains you also get the **registrar, creation date, expiry date, days until expiry, status codes and nameservers**.

Built by **Webstack Data**. No API key, no proxy, no browser: results come straight from the official registry (RDAP, the modern replacement for WHOIS, or the registry WHOIS server for extensions without RDAP such as .io or .de) and are cross-checked against live DNS.

### What you can use it for

- **Brand and startup naming:** give 20 name ideas and 6 extensions, get the 120 combinations back and keep only the free ones.
- **Domain portfolio monitoring:** track expiry dates of your own domains, or of domains you want to buy when they drop.
- **Lead research and due diligence:** find who registered a domain (registrar) and how old it is.
- **Agencies:** check client domains and spot ones that expire soon.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `domains` | Full domains, one per line (`acme.com`). URLs are accepted. |
| `names` + `tlds` | Name ideas (`acme`, `nova`) combined with every extension (`com`, `io`, `ai`). |
| `onlyAvailable` | Only write available domains to the dataset. |
| `maxConcurrency` | Parallel checks (default 5, max 3 per registry to stay polite). |

```json
{
  "names": ["northbeam", "clearlane"],
  "tlds": ["com", "io", "ai", "co"],
  "onlyAvailable": true
}
```

### Output

```json
{
  "domain": "google.com",
  "tld": "com",
  "status": "registered",
  "available": false,
  "method": "rdap",
  "registrar": "MarkMonitor Inc.",
  "createdAt": "1997-09-15T04:00:00Z",
  "expiresAt": "2028-09-14T04:00:00Z",
  "daysUntilExpiry": 1044,
  "domainStatus": ["client delete prohibited", "client transfer prohibited"],
  "nameservers": ["ns1.google.com", "ns2.google.com"],
  "checkedAt": "2026-11-05T10:00:00.000Z"
}
```

#### Status values

- `available`: the official registry (RDAP or WHOIS) has no record and there is no DNS delegation.
- `registered`: the registry (or live DNS) shows the domain is taken.
- `likely-available`: the registry has no public RDAP or WHOIS answer we can read (for example .es, which restricts WHOIS) and the domain has no DNS delegation. Confirm with a registrar before buying.
- `unknown`: the registry did not answer after retries. Not charged.
- `invalid`: the input is not a valid domain name. Not charged.

**Limits, honestly:** registries do not expose premium or reserved names, so a few "available" domains may be sold at a premium price or be blocked by the registry. Always confirm at your registrar before you rely on the result.

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription:

- **$0.00005** per run start
- **$0.0015 per domain checked** ($1.50 per 1,000 domains)

Domains with status `unknown` or `invalid` are not charged. Set a maximum cost per run in Apify and the Actor stops cleanly when it is reached.

### API and automation

Run it from n8n, Make, Zapier or your own code with the Apify API:

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/uianalize~domain-availability-checker/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"domains": ["example.com", "my-new-brand.io"]}'
```

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Full domain names, one per line (e.g. acme.com, acme.io). URLs are accepted and reduced to the domain.

## `names` (type: `array`):

Brand or name ideas without extension (e.g. acme). Each name is checked with every TLD below.

## `tlds` (type: `array`):

Extensions to combine with the name ideas, without the dot (e.g. com, io, ai, co, es).

## `onlyAvailable` (type: `boolean`):

If enabled, registered domains are not written to the dataset (they are still checked and charged).

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Domains checked in parallel. Requests to the same registry are capped at 3 at a time.

## `timeoutSecs` (type: `integer`):

Timeout for each registry (RDAP) request.
