## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Teaching Vacancies UK Scraper – DfE School & Teacher Jobs (England)

**Get every live school job in England as clean JSON, CSV or Excel, straight from the Department for Education's official Teaching Vacancies service.** Teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, headteachers and school support staff from state schools, academies and multi-academy trusts, with salary, closing date, school URN and a link to the original advert. It uses the official public API, so you don't need a login, browser or proxy, and it can run on a schedule as a daily new-jobs feed.

### What data does it return?

- **Job:** title, job role (teacher, TA, SENCO, headteacher…), full/part-time, full plain-text description (contact details redacted by default), benefits
- **School:** name, URN, website, a link to its GIAS (Get Information About Schools) profile, street address, town, region, postcode and postcode area
- **Pay and dates:** salary text plus parsed min/max salary in GBP and the pay period, date posted, closing date, days until close
- **Provenance:** the advert URL, source, licence and the OGL attribution line on every record

### Who is it for?

- **Education recruitment agencies and supply teaching agencies:** lists of schools hiring right now by region, subject or role
- **EdTech and school suppliers:** spot schools with new leadership, SEN or growth hiring
- **Researchers and journalists:** teacher labour-market and salary analysis (MPS/UPS, FTE vs actual pay, regional shortages)
- **Job boards, newsletters and alerts:** a daily feed of new jobs in your area, subject or phase (`onlyNew`)

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free** / **Start**.
2. Optionally add keywords (e.g. `maths`, `SEN`, `primary`), job roles, regions, towns, postcode areas or a minimum salary. Leave them empty to get every live job.
3. Set **Max results** to cap the run and your cost.
4. Run it, then download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the Apify API.

### Input example

```json
{"keywords": ["maths"], "jobRoles": ["teacher"], "regions": ["London"], "postedWithinDays": 7, "onlyNew": true, "stateKey": "london-maths", "maxItems": 100}
```

All inputs: keywords, excludeKeywords, jobRoles, regions, towns, postcodeAreas, employmentTypes, postedWithinDays, minSalaryGbp, onlyNew + stateKey, includeDescription, redactContactDetails, maxItems.

### How much does it cost?

Pay per result: **$0.002 per job returned ($2.00 per 1,000 results).** There's no subscription, and Apify platform usage is included in the price.

| Jobs returned | Cost |
|---|---|
| 100 | $0.20 |
| 1,000 | $2.00 |
| 10,000 | $20.00 |

Use **Max results** and Apify's *maximum cost per run* setting to cap spend. The Actor stops cleanly when your budget is reached. Jobs skipped by your filters or already seen (`onlyNew`) are **not** charged.

### Monitoring new jobs

Set `onlyNew: true` and schedule the Actor daily (Apify **Schedules**). Each run returns, and charges for, only jobs it hasn't returned before for that `stateKey`. Use a different `stateKey` for each saved search. Pair it with Apify integrations (webhooks, Make, Zapier, Google Sheets, Slack) to push new jobs where you need them.

### Legal and data protection

Data comes from the official public API (`/api/v1/jobs.json`). DfE's terms ("Terms and conditions for API users", last updated 9 July 2026) say: *"You are free to reuse job listing data under the terms of the Open Government Licence for public sector information with the following exception: you must not charge any fee or commission for contacting, interviewing or hiring a respondent to your listing if you have reused Teaching Vacancies data."* Every record carries the attribution "Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0" and a link to the original advert.

What you pay for here is the extraction, filtering, deduplication and delivery service; the listing data itself remains free OGL data. If you republish these jobs you must:

- keep the OGL attribution and link back to the original Teaching Vacancies advert;
- **not** charge any fee or commission to candidates or schools for contacting, interviewing or hiring someone who responds to a reused listing;
- not charge your users to click a link to Teaching Vacancies, and not frame its pages;
- not imply endorsement by the Department for Education.

This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by DfE. Emails and phone numbers are redacted from descriptions by default; you are responsible for your own UK GDPR compliance for any personal data that remains.

### FAQ

- **Is this the official data?** Yes. It reads the DfE Teaching Vacancies public API, the same listings shown on teaching-vacancies.service.gov.uk.
- **Does it cover Scotland, Wales or independent schools?** No. Teaching Vacancies covers state schools and academies in England.
- **How many jobs are there?** It varies through the year. Run with no filters to export every live listing.
- **Can I get it as CSV or Excel or in Google Sheets?** Yes. Every run's dataset can be exported in those formats or fetched through the API.
- **Does it break when the site changes?** Live tests run against the real API, and the run fails loudly instead of returning empty data, so you're never charged for nothing.
- **Need another field or source?** Open an issue on the Actor page.
