## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## US Public Company Filings & XBRL Financials – 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, Form 4 (data from SEC EDGAR)

Pull public filings for any US public company by **stock ticker or CIK**: 10-K annual reports, 10-Q quarterly reports, 8-K current reports, Form 4 insider filings, S-1, 13F and more. Each result includes filing date, period, 8-K item codes, and **direct links to the filing document and index**. Optionally attach **XBRL financials** (revenue, net income, total assets, liabilities, equity, diluted EPS, cash) reported in that filing.

### Why this Actor

- **Source**: the SEC's public `data.sec.gov` JSON APIs. The SEC describes this as public information that may be redistributed. No HTML scraping, no login, no API key.
- **Built to follow SEC fair-access guidance**: declared User-Agent with a contact email, rate-limited below 10 requests/second (max 4 requests/second per run), automatic retries with back-off.
- Typically returns hundreds of filings per run; speed depends on SEC availability and rate limits.

### Use cases

Investment research, earnings monitoring, 8-K event alerts, compliance, fintech/LLM pipelines, building financial datasets.

### Input

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| companies | `["AAPL","MSFT","320193"]` (default `["AAPL"]`) |
| formTypes | `["10-K","8-K"]` (empty = all) |
| dateFrom / dateTo | `2024-01-01` |
| maxFilingsPerCompany | `20` (default) |
| includeFinancials | `true` |

### Output (one item per filing)

```json
{"cik":320193,"companyName":"Apple Inc.","tickers":["AAPL"],"formType":"10-K","filingDate":"2025-10-31","reportDate":"2025-09-27","accessionNumber":"0000320193-25-000079","documentUrl":"https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/320193/.../aapl-20250927.htm","financials":{"NetIncomeLoss":{"value":112010000000,"unit":"USD","periodEnd":"2025-09-27"}}}
```

Export to JSON, CSV, Excel, or use the Apify API / integrations.
