## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Douban Scraper: movies, TV shows, books, ratings and reviews (豆瓣)

Get structured data from [Douban](https://www.douban.com) (豆瓣), China's biggest rating site for movies, TV shows, books and music. Search by keyword, pull whole charts like the **Douban Top 250**, and add short comments (短评) and full reviews (影评/书评) for each title. The scraper needs no login or cookie, and you can export to JSON, CSV or Excel.

Use it to:

- Research the Chinese audience for a film, series, book or album.
- Track scores and comment counts of new releases over time.
- Collect Chinese reviews for sentiment analysis or LLM datasets.
- Build catalogues with cast, genres, release dates and synopsis.

It reads Douban's own mobile-site JSON API with plain HTTP requests, no browser. That makes it fast and cheap.

### What you can scrape

| Input | What you get |
| --- | --- |
| **Search keywords** | Movies & TV, books or music matching the keyword, with full details |
| **Charts (榜单)** | Top 250 (movies and books), in cinemas, coming soon, real-time hot movies and TV, hot Chinese/US/Korean/Japanese dramas, anime, variety shows, bestsellers, music charts |
| **Subject URLs or IDs** | Full details of specific movies, TV shows, books or albums |
| **Short comments** | The most helpful short comments of each title, with star rating and votes |
| **Reviews** | The most helpful long reviews, with the **complete text**, rating, useful votes and read count |

### Why this scraper

- **About 40% cheaper** than the most-used Douban scraper on the Store (see Pricing).
- **Full details by default**: genres, directors, cast, countries, languages, running time, release dates, synopsis, Douban score and rating count. Books include authors, translators, publisher, pages and price.
- **Complete review text**, not just the 100-character abstract.
- **Times in UTC** (Douban shows Beijing time), and IDs are always strings.
- **Privacy-friendly**: commenters' gender, location, IP location and registration date are left out. Only their public ID, name and profile link are kept.
- **Pay only for results.** There's no rental fee, and the run stops cleanly at your spending limit.

### Good to know: guest limits

Douban shows logged-out visitors:

- up to about **150 short comments** per title, most helpful first;
- the first two pages of **reviews** (about 40 per title), most helpful first.

Comments sorted by newest need a logged-in account, so they are not available. Search, charts and subject details have no such limit.

### How to use it

1. Add search keywords, chart IDs or subject URLs.
2. Pick what to add: full details, short comments, reviews.
3. Click **Start**, then download the results from the **Output** tab in any format.

### Pricing

Pay per result, no subscription. You are only charged for records that land in your dataset.

| Record | Event | Price |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Movie, TV show, book or album | `subject` | $3.00 per 1,000 |
| Short comment | `comment` | $3.00 per 1,000 |
| Review (full text) | `review` | $18.00 per 1,000 |

The exact current prices are always shown on the **Pricing** tab. Set *Maximum cost per run* in the run options and the scraper stops cleanly when it is reached. The whole Douban Top 250 with full details costs $0.75.

### FAQ

**Why do I get at most about 150 short comments per title?**
Douban shows logged-out visitors only the most helpful ~150 short comments and ~40 reviews per title. Everything the site shows a guest is collected.

**Can I track scores over time?**
Yes. Save a task with the charts or titles you care about and schedule it, for example daily. Each run is a timestamped snapshot of scores, rating counts and comment counts.

**Do I need a proxy?**
No. The scraper paces itself, and on the Apify platform it switches to Apify Proxy on its own if Douban blocks its IP. If Douban still blocks it for more than 5 minutes, the run stops early and keeps everything it already scraped.

**Is scraping Douban legal?**
This Actor collects only publicly visible data, through the API Douban's own mobile website uses, and leaves out personal details such as gender, location and IP location. You are responsible for how you use the data. Check Douban's terms and the data protection laws that apply to you (GDPR, PIPL...).
