## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Google Trends Scraper: Bulk Keywords, Comparable Scale, Related Queries

Get Google Trends data for **hundreds of keywords in one run**, with values you can actually compare to each other.

Google Trends rescales every request to 0-100, so "chatgpt" checked alone and "claude" checked alone cannot be compared. This Actor fixes that: switch on **Comparable scale** and every keyword, however many, lands on one common scale.

### What you get per keyword

- **Summary**: average interest, peak value and date, latest value
- **Trend flag**: `rising`, `falling`, `stable` or `breakout`, with a momentum percentage (last period vs the one before)
- **Full time series** (weekly or daily, depending on the range), partial last bucket marked
- **Comparable value** for each point (optional), plus a ranking across all keywords in the run summary
- **Related queries**: top and rising, with breakout flags (optional)
- **Related topics** (optional)
- **Interest by region**: country, state, city or DMA ranking (optional)
- Source URL to open the same view on trends.google.com

### Why people use it

- Keyword and niche research: which of my 200 candidate topics is really biggest, and which is accelerating?
- Content planning: spot rising and breakout searches before they peak
- E-commerce and product research: seasonality, regional demand
- Market and brand tracking: monitor a list of competitors weekly with the Apify scheduler
- Feeding AI agents and dashboards through the Apify API, MCP or integrations

### How comparable scale works

Keywords are joined in batches of four plus one anchor keyword. The anchor is measured in every batch, and each batch is rescaled so the anchor matches its reference level. Result: one 0-100 scale across the whole run.

Checked on live data: the ratios between five keywords computed with this method matched Google's own single 5-keyword comparison exactly (chatgpt / claude 4.21 vs 4.21, gemini / claude 1.50 vs 1.50, copilot / claude 0.34 vs 0.34, grok / claude 0.27 vs 0.27).

Tip: pick an anchor with steady, mid-level interest. If a keyword is more than about 100 times smaller than the anchor, Google rounds it to 0 and it cannot be placed reliably. The Actor warns you when an anchor is too weak.

### Input example

```json
{
  "keywords": ["chatgpt", "claude", "gemini", "perplexity", "deepseek"],
  "geo": "US",
  "timeframe": "today 12-m",
  "comparableScale": true,
  "anchorKeyword": "claude",
  "includeRelatedQueries": true,
  "includeRegions": true
}
```

Custom dates: set `customTimeRange` to `2025-01-01 2025-06-30`. Other search types: `youtube`, `news`, `images`, `shopping`.

### Output example (shortened)

```json
{
  "keyword": "gemini",
  "status": "ok",
  "geo": "US",
  "timeframe": "today 12-m",
  "summary": { "average": 78, "peakValue": 100, "peakDate": "2025-11-23", "latestValue": 80, "momentumPct": 18.8, "trend": "rising" },
  "comparableAverage": 27.92,
  "interestOverTime": [ { "date": "2025-09-28", "label": "Sep 28 - Oct 4, 2025", "value": 61, "comparableValue": 21.8, "isPartial": false } ],
  "relatedQueries": { "top": [ { "query": "gemini ai", "value": 100 } ], "rising": [ { "query": "gemini 3", "value": 5000, "breakout": false } ] },
  "regions": [ { "geoCode": "US-NJ", "geoName": "New Jersey", "value": 100 } ]
}
```

The key-value store item `SUMMARY` holds run statistics and a ranking of all keywords (by comparable average when enabled).

### Pricing (pay per event)

You pay only for results delivered. Keywords with no data are not charged, failed keywords are not charged.

| Event | Price | When |
|---|---|---|
| Keyword result | $0.004 | One keyword with summary, trend and time series |
| Related data | $0.003 | Related queries and/or topics returned for a keyword |
| Region data | $0.002 | Regional breakdown returned for a keyword |

Example: 200 keywords with comparable scale, no extras: about $0.80. The same 200 with related queries and regions: about $1.80.

Platform usage is included. Use the "Max cost per run" setting to cap spending.

### Reliability

Each request retries with a fresh session and IP, with exponential backoff. Use residential proxies on the Apify platform (default in the input form): Google blocks most datacenter addresses.

### Scheduling and API

Run it on a schedule, call it via the Apify API, or connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n, Google Sheets or any AI agent through the Apify MCP server.

### Data and legality

Google Trends shows aggregated, anonymous search-interest data. This Actor reads only that public aggregated data and collects no personal information. You are responsible for using the data in line with Google's terms and the laws that apply to you.

### Limitations

- Google Trends values are rounded integers sampled by Google, so small keywords are noisy.
- Google may return different values for the same query at different times (sampling).
- Very small keywords (below the anchor by 100x or more) read as 0.

### Support

Found a bug or need a field added? Open an issue on the Actor page. Reports with the keyword and run link get fixed fastest.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Search terms or topics to analyse. One per line. Up to 500.

## `geo` (type: `string`):

ISO code such as US, GB, DE, IT or US-CA. Leave empty for worldwide.

## `timeframe` (type: `string`):

Period to analyse. Use the custom range below for exact dates.

## `customTimeRange` (type: `string`):

Format: YYYY-MM-DD YYYY-MM-DD, for example 2025-01-01 2025-06-30. Overrides the time range above.

## `property` (type: `string`):

Which Google property the searches come from.

## `category` (type: `integer`):

Google Trends category number. 0 means all categories (e.g. 71 = Food & Drink, 5 = Computers & Electronics).

## `includeInterestOverTime` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the weekly/daily values to every result. Turn off to get only the summary and trend flags.

## `comparableScale` (type: `boolean`):

Google normalises every request to 0-100, so keywords checked separately cannot be compared. Turn this on to get values on ONE common scale for any number of keywords (uses an anchor keyword to join batches).

## `anchorKeyword` (type: `string`):

Used only with comparable scale. Pick a keyword with steady, mid-level interest. Default: the first keyword.

## `includeRelatedQueries` (type: `boolean`):

Top and rising related searches, with breakout flags. Charged as an extra event when data exists.

## `includeRelatedTopics` (type: `boolean`):

Top and rising related topics. Charged with the related data event when data exists.

## `includeRegions` (type: `boolean`):

Ranked list of regions where the keyword is most searched. Charged as an extra event when data exists.

## `regionResolution` (type: `string`):

Granularity of the regional breakdown.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Language of labels and related queries, e.g. en-US, de, it.

## `maxKeywords` (type: `integer`):

Safety limit.

## `maxRetries` (type: `integer`):

Each retry uses a new session and IP.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Residential proxies are recommended on the Apify platform: Google blocks most datacenter IPs.
