## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Google Trends Scraper: Compare Unlimited Keywords, Growth & Breakouts

Get **Google Trends data for any number of keywords** in one run: interest over time, interest by region, related and rising searches, and ready-made **growth metrics** (year-over-year change, recent momentum, trend direction, seasonal peak). Every keyword is placed on **one comparable 0-100 scale**, past Google's 5-term limit.

Built for SEO and content planning, product and niche research, e-commerce, investors watching consumer demand, and anyone feeding Trends data into spreadsheets, dashboards or AI agents.

### What you get per keyword

- **timeline**: interest over time (0-100), with `valueOnCommonScale` so every keyword shares the same scale
- **relativePopularity** and **popularityRank** across all your keywords (top keyword = 100)
- **Growth metrics**, computed for you:
  - `yearOverYearChangePct`: last 4 data points vs the same points one year earlier (needs a period longer than 12 months, such as Past 5 years)
  - `recentChangePct`: the latest quarter of the period vs the quarter before it
  - `trendDirection`: `rising`, `falling` or `stable` (fitted line over the whole period, ±15%)
  - `peakDate`, `peakValue`, `peakMonth` (seasonal peak, for periods of 2+ years), `averageInterest`, `latestValue`
- **topRegions**: where the keyword is searched most
- **relatedQueriesTop**, **relatedQueriesRising** and **breakoutQueries** (searches Google marks as "Breakout", growing more than 5000%)
- **trendsUrl**: the same chart on Google Trends, to check by eye

Optional **Trending now**: today's top trending searches for any country, with approximate search traffic and linked news articles.

### Why this scraper

- **One scale for unlimited keywords.** Keywords are compared in overlapping groups that share a reference keyword, then chained. In testing, results matched Google's own 5-keyword comparison exactly.
- **Answers, not just numbers.** Year-over-year growth, momentum, direction and seasonality are calculated, so you can sort a list of 500 niche ideas by what is growing.
- **You only pay for keyword reports with data.** Keywords with too little search volume, and failed lookups, are free.
- **Fast and light.** No browser. A typical keyword takes about a second.

### Guide

Step-by-step walkthrough with a real example: [How to compare more than 5 keywords in Google Trends (and get YoY growth for each)](https://dev.to/veridata/how-to-compare-more-than-5-keywords-in-google-trends-and-get-yoy-growth-for-each-19g8).

### How to use

1. Enter your **keywords**, one per line.
2. Pick a **country** (`US`, `IN`, `ES`, `US-CA`...) or leave empty for worldwide, and a **time range**.
3. Run it. Export as CSV, Excel or JSON, or connect to Google Sheets, Make, Zapier, n8n or your AI agent through Apify integrations.

### Output example

```json
{
  "type": "keyword",
  "keyword": "matcha",
  "geo": "US",
  "timeRange": "today 5-y",
  "relativePopularity": 6.14,
  "popularityRank": 4,
  "averageInterest": 44.4,
  "yearOverYearChangePct": 10.0,
  "recentChangePct": 44.4,
  "trendDirection": "rising",
  "peakMonth": "August",
  "peakDate": "2026-06-21",
  "breakoutQueries": ["ryze matcha", "ryze mushroom matcha"],
  "topRegions": [{"geoCode": "US-HI", "name": "Hawaii", "value": 100}],
  "timeline": [{"date": "2021-10-24", "value": 15, "isPartial": false, "valueOnCommonScale": 1.23}],
  "trendsUrl": "https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=matcha&date=today%205-y&geo=US"
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event: you're charged per **keyword report with data** and per **trending search** returned. Keywords without enough search volume and failed lookups are not charged. Set a maximum cost per run in the run options to cap spending.

### Notes

- Google Trends values are relative (0-100), not absolute search counts.
- When one keyword is more than ~100 times bigger than another, Google rounds the smaller one to 0. Its `relativePopularity` is then 0, meaning under about 1% of the top keyword.
- Related topics are returned only when Google provides them for the query.
- Data comes from the public Google Trends website. This actor is not affiliated with Google.
