## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Website Rebuild Leads

Find local businesses whose websites are clearly outdated, with proof you can check in seconds.

Built for web design agencies and freelancers looking for clients who genuinely need a new website.

### What you get

A list of real, currently operating US businesses with old or broken websites. For every business:

- **Business name, website, phone and email**
- **City and industry**
- **A rebuild score** from 0 to 100. Higher means more outdated
- **Priority**, High by default
- **Three reasons** the website needs work, written in plain English

Example reasons you'll see:

- "Still loads Flash content - Flash stopped working in all browsers in 2020"
- "No mobile layout - phone visitors see the full desktop page shrunk down"
- "Dead social icons (Google+ shut down 2019)"

Every reason is something you can confirm yourself by opening the website. No guesswork, no vague scores.

### How it works

For every business, the Actor:

1. Checks the website actually belongs to the business, and skips hijacked, spam and foreign-language sites
2. **Confirms with Google that the business is still operating** — closed and untraceable businesses are dropped before any further work, so you never pay for a dead lead
3. Opens the website in a real browser, on desktop and on a phone
4. Checks the website's code for outdated technology
5. Inspect the screenshots for dated design
6. Only keeps the businesses where the evidence is clear

Most websites turn out fine, or belong to a business that's no longer running, and both get thrown away. **By default you only get high-priority leads,** where the website is outdated on several counts. That's why the leads you get are worth contacting.

### How to use it

1. **Choose how many leads you want.** Minimum 20.
2. **Choose a city**, or leave it on Random.
3. **Choose industries** if you want, or leave it empty for all of them. Tip: trades like auto repair, towing, and home services usually have older websites.
4. **Optional:** tick "Include medium-priority leads" for more leads, faster. These show fewer outdated signs, so they're less certain.
5. Click **Start**.

When it finishes, download your leads as a spreadsheet (Excel or CSV) from the results tab.

### How long does it take?

This isn't a quick scrape. Each business goes through several real checks — website ownership, live business status, a full browser render on desktop and mobile, and a deep review — before it's accepted or rejected. **Expect a run to take up to 15 minutes**, sometimes a little more in a slow area. You can close the page; it keeps running and your results will be waiting.

### Pricing

**You only pay for leads.** Websites that turn out fine, or belong to a closed business, cost you nothing.

### Will I get the same leads as other people?

Businesses are picked randomly from tens of thousands in each city, so overlap between users is rare. And you'll **never receive the same business twice** across your own runs.

### What if it can't find enough leads?

If an area runs out of qualifying, currently-operating websites, the Actor stops and returns everything it found. You only pay for the leads you get. Try another city or run again later for a fresh batch.

### Cities covered

37 major US cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, Phoenix, Seattle, and more. Or choose Random.

### Questions or problems?

Open an issue on the Actor's Issues tab and we'll help.

# Actor input Schema

## `leadsWanted` (type: `integer`):

Minimum 20. The Actor keeps checking websites until it finds this many qualified leads. If the area runs out first, it returns everything it found, and you only pay for what you get.

## `city` (type: `string`):

Pick a city, or choose Random to let the Actor select one for you.

## `industries` (type: `array`):

Leave empty to search all industries. Selecting the older trades usually produces more leads, because their websites are more often neglected.

## `includeMedium` (type: `boolean`):

Off by default: you only get high-priority leads, where the website is clearly outdated on several counts. Turn on to also get medium-priority leads, which show fewer outdated signs. You get more leads, faster, but they are less certain.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "leadsWanted": 20,
  "city": "random",
  "industries": [],
  "includeMedium": false
}
