## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

### ⚠️ First: get your free Google key (2 minutes, one time only)

This Actor uses **Google's official Places API** instead of scraping Google Maps. That keeps you on the right side of Google's terms — but it means you bring your own key. It's free to create and Google gives new accounts free monthly credit.

**Step 1 — Enable the API.** Open this link and click the blue **Enable** button:
👉 https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/library/places-backend.googleapis.com

*(If it asks you to create a project first, click "Create project", give it any name, and continue.)*

**Step 2 — Create the key.** Open this link and click **+ Create credentials → API key**:
👉 https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/credentials

**Step 3 — Copy it.** A popup shows a key starting with `AIzaSy...`. Copy it and paste it into the **Google API key** field of this Actor.

That's it. You never do this again.

<details>
<summary><b>Troubleshooting: "API key not valid" or no results</b></summary>

- Make sure you enabled **Places API (New)**, not the old "Places API". The link in Step 1 is the correct one.
- Check the project selector at the top of the Google Cloud page is the **same project** in both steps.
- If your organization forces API restrictions and "Places API (New)" doesn't appear in the list, create the key in a personal project instead.
- Google bills you directly for API usage at their own rates, and only after the free credit runs out. We never charge you for it.

### What you get per lead

| Field | Source |
|---|---|
| Business name, address, phone, rating, reviews, category, price level | Google Places (official API) |
| Website | Google Places |
| **Email** | The business's own public website |
| **Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok** | The business's own public website |
| Coordinates, Google Maps link, Place ID | Google Places |

Emails and social links are read from the page the business already publishes publicly — nothing is taken from a third-party platform.

### Input

```json
{
  "queries": ["dentists in Madrid", "plumbers near Chicago"],
  "maxResultsPerQuery": 20,
  "onlyWithEmail": false,
  "googleApiKey": "AIzaSy..."
}
```

Turn on `onlyWithEmail` if you're building a cold-email list and don't want rows without an address.

### Why it finds emails other tools miss

Local businesses almost never put their email on the homepage — it lives on `/contacto`, `/contact` or the legal notice. So when the homepage has no email, this Actor **follows through to those pages** before giving up.

On a test batch of real dental clinics it returned a usable email for **4 out of 5** businesses. Expect roughly **70-80% on service businesses** (clinics, law firms, trades) and lower on chains and franchises, which tend to hide behind contact forms.

### A note on phone numbers and accuracy

Phone numbers come from Google's verified business data, and as a fallback from real `tel:` links on the site. We deliberately **don't** guess phone numbers out of page text — that pattern matches dates, coordinates and order IDs, and a lead list full of fake numbers is worse than a shorter honest one.

For the same reason, `email` is always an address actually published by the business. We never construct guesses like `info@theirdomain.com`.

### Who this is for

- Agencies and freelancers building local prospecting lists
- SDRs who need name + email + phone in one export, not three tools
- Anyone tired of scraping Google Maps and worrying about getting blocked

### Pricing

Pay per use, no subscription:

- $0.005 per run
- $0.012 per lead returned

A 100-lead list costs about **$1.20**. You also pay Google directly for their API usage, at their rates.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

One search per line, exactly as you'd type it in Google Maps. Examples: "dentists in Madrid", "plumbers near Chicago", "yoga studios Barcelona".

## `maxResultsPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

Up to 20 per search (one page of the Google Places API).

## `onlyWithEmail` (type: `boolean`):

Skips businesses whose website doesn't publish an email address. Turn this on if you only care about email outreach.

## `googleApiKey` (type: `string`):

Free Google Cloud key with 'Places API (New)' enabled. Google gives new accounts free monthly credit. Step-by-step with screenshots at the top of the README.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "queries": [
    "dentists in Madrid"
  ],
  "maxResultsPerQuery": 20,
