## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## AI Crawler Checker

See what a website's public files say to known AI crawlers. Each site gets one row: which listed crawlers are allowed, blocked, or blocked only on some paths, plus a short summary and a robots.txt snippet for the policy you choose.

General information only.

This reads files the site publishes. It does not show whether a crawler actually visits.

### What you get

For each public site:

- Whether `robots.txt` was found.
- For each listed crawler: allowed, blocked, or blocked only on some paths. If `robots.txt` cannot be reached or the server fails, every listed crawler is blocked. If the file is missing or refused, the crawlers are allowed.
- Whether the homepage asks robots not to index or not to follow, from the page and from the response.
- Whether `ai.txt` and `llms.txt` are present. Their text is not saved.
- A plain-language summary.
- A robots.txt snippet you can paste, matching the policy you chose.

Unreachable sites are stored with no crawler list and are not charged. Private addresses, internal names, and URLs on a port other than 80 or 443 are skipped and are not charged. The summary counts every URL you supplied, how many were accepted, and how many of those unsafe URLs were skipped. A run whose addresses are all private still finishes, with nothing checked.

### How to use it

1. Paste your own site URLs under **Website URLs**. Use a full URL such as `https://example.com/`. Up to 100 sites. Extra sites beyond that cap are counted and not checked.
2. Choose a policy:
   - **Allow all**: the snippet allows every listed crawler.
   - **Block training**: the snippet blocks crawlers commonly used to train models, and allows crawlers that fetch a page because a person asked, or that power a search answer.
   - **Block all**: the snippet blocks every listed crawler.
3. Start the run. Open the dataset for one row per site. The `OUTPUT` record has the run counts.

The snippet is a suggestion. You still edit `robots.txt` on your own site.

### Pricing

You pay a small fee when the run starts, plus a fee for each public site that could be checked. A site that cannot be reached, or a private address, is free.

| Event | Price |
| --- | --- |
| Run start | $0.00005 |
| Site checked | $0.002 |

### What is not collected

`robots.txt`, `ai.txt`, `llms.txt` and the homepage text are not saved. Email addresses in those files are not saved. Query strings and fragments are not saved. Logs name the domain and how many crawlers were blocked or allowed.

### Limits

Up to 100 sites in one run. Each request times out, redirects are capped, and response bodies are capped. Only `http` and `https` on ports 80 and 443 are accepted.

# Actor input Schema

## `urls` (type: `array`):

Your own public site URLs, for example https://example.com/. Up to 100. Private and internal addresses are skipped.

## `policy` (type: `string`):

The robots.txt snippet to suggest. Allow all, block training crawlers, or block every listed crawler.

## `maxSites` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of sites to check in one run.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many sites to check at the same time.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "urls": [
    "https://example.com/",
    "https://example.com/blog"
  ],
  "policy": "blockTraining",
  "maxSites": 100,
  "concurrency": 2
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `sites` (type: `string`):

One dataset row per site.

## `summary` (type: `string`):

The OUTPUT record in the default key-value store.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
        "https://example.com/"
    ],
    "policy": "blockTraining",
    "maxSites": 100,
    "concurrency": 2
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("vizellie/ai-crawler-checker").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
